Thanks rowrow, it is a pain in the bahookie though not being able to run especially when I'd nearly got to the magical 30mins - ouchyouch to your toe. Hope it's better now. You will LOVE W5R3, the feeling you get when you have finished it is fantastic, and will stay with you and you will blether on to everyone about how you ran for 20 mins today until they beg you to SHUT UP - such an achievement for me to be able to run 20mins. In fact in the end I found it easier to run without stopping - the first ten mins are always hard when your body is sort of saying, 'wtf are you doing?, but after that it's fab. Good luck, you can do it!

Welcome MissHonker - you can do it, trust me if I can, anyone can. I was sooooo unfit, also overweight a bit curvy, and was, like you, very doubtful that I could actually run for 60 seconds. But I did, and totally surprised myself. Keep popping in here, there's loads of support and information, and kicks up the bahookie when if you need it Grin. I can't wait to get back out there, but will have to drop back from my 28mins (W8) after having an injury break Sad.

Happy running everyone!

MissHonkover · 10/06/2011 05:36

Thanks everyone! lilibet, good to find someone as supremely unfit rusty as myself in the running department. Yes, I'll do as you suggest and go for smaller distances. This weekend I'll get Out There.

SherlockHolmes · 10/06/2011 15:05

Well, I can't believe I've finished Week 7! I've been running on a treadmill VERY slowly up until now, and lovely Laura on the NHS podcast suggested I might try running outside for a change. Oh dear! I hadn't realised how much more running in the real world takes it out of you! I managed the 25 minutes but I was purple by the time I'd finished and it took me about half an hour to recover! I think it's because I was a) running faster than I thought (I covered an extra .7 mile) and also because some of it was uphill. So I did my 3rd run of the week back on the treadmill at my old slow pace. My plan is to finish the 9 weeks on the treadmill, then go back to Week 6 and do runs outside from then on. Hopefully in a couple of weeks I'll be a bit more able to cope with it.

Good luck and well done to everyone Grin

Oh god I'm so tired do I attempt the 20 minute run tonight or do I wait until tomorrow?

BearGryllsBra · 10/06/2011 19:11

Do it NOW! You will be on a high ALL weekend if you do it now and it will give you energy rowrow. Do it for me and my stupid bloody buggery poorly foot! Let me live vicariously through my merry posse of runners Grin whilst I'm laid up, injured, nursing a glass of wine medicine .....

rowrowrowyourboat · 10/06/2011 19:25

Tried but failed,I just can't breathe enough my nose is full of gunk. I am so cross with myself everything else was ok Angry

BearGryllsBra · 10/06/2011 20:33

Never mind, there's always tomorrow rowrow ... that's what I keep trying to tell myself :)

sweatybrawearer · 11/06/2011 00:23

Phew what a week. Scorching hot here and mega-humid, so no running. i'm investigating a couple of gyms so that I can stay indoors. Hoping to hike tomorrow out of the city where it might be a bit cooler.

Well done runners!

Bear - sorry it is taking so long for you to get better.

BearGryllsBra · 11/06/2011 13:19

Awww thanks sweaty (apt user name this week then), I can remember NY summers well . DH's pilot pal has just come back and has skin peeling off his forehead - think he underestimated the ferocity of the sun - this is him: Angry

Good luck finding somewhere cooler, but an air conditioned gym sounds good too - needs must.

Foot is very annoying, but I am DETERMINED to get back out there - planning a couple of treadmill sessions next week, and then back on my Flora and Fauna Route next Friday - thought I might pop into the shop where I got my running shoes and pick their brains. Maybe I should just run through the pain like they do in the Army and stop being such a big Jessie.

sweatybrawearer · 11/06/2011 15:20

Noooo bear, don't do that, before you know it your foot will fall off. Advice from the running shop is a good idea.

My tendon is really sore this morning. It might be because I spent yesterday in cheapo rubber flip flops (a "gift" from the nail bar where I have my pedicures so the toe polish doesn't get smudged) as it was dress down Friday (I always wanted some of those flip flops when I was little but my Mum wouldn't let me because they weren't from Clarks, brown or had laces so I'm having a mini-rebellion now I'm a big girl).

BearGryllsBra · 11/06/2011 23:08

Oh Clarks t-bars I remember them well Grin.

sweaty, I think you're right about the flip-flops (although I live in them in the summer), as the week I did my foot in I had been wearing a strange combination of flat ballerina pumps, wellies and flip flops and think they were all too flat. Then when I put my fancynancy running shoes on, bingo.

By the way, it's bloody freezing here. I was thinking of putting the heating on earlier!

sweatybrawearer · 12/06/2011 03:48

Well I've really done it now.

We went hiking and it was 2 miles uphill, 2 miles down. Not much on the flat.

So by the end I was itching to run. So I did, because we were on the flat and it was grassy. But because I'm still getting used to my new glasses I didn't notice the huge hole until I fell into it and turned my ankle.

I thought I was fine, and I was until I took my trainers off a couple of hours later. it really hurts big time. Ice pack hasn't helped. Nor has lots of wine Sad

sweatybrawearer · 12/06/2011 03:51

DH has suggested a trip to A and E and an x ray, but I am not in his league of drama-queen-ness, so am resisting. But gosh this is painful. Certainly no running for a few days. Ouch!

SuchProspects · 12/06/2011 05:05

Sweaty A & E isn't such a bad idea, at the very least see your GP. Small breaks can be hard to detect and very badly sprained ankles aren't trivial. Untreated both will heal but leave you with a weaker joint.

I turned my ankle back along with a colleague on a training course back in my early twenties. It was over 2 months before it was really healed (I ran on it before then though). Thanks to physio have had no problems with it since, but my colleague refused treatment and ended up with significant loss of range of motion and ongoing stiffness. It felt like overkill at the time but with the benefit of hindsight I'm really glad I went with the "Drama Queen" option. Grin

sweatybrawearer · 12/06/2011 05:17

Thank you Such. I am considering seeing someone on Monday simply because it is so jolly sore. Because I'm in the US I'm sure my GP equivalent will send me for an X ray etc whether I need one or not.

SuchProspects · 12/06/2011 08:06

I should also have said - So sorry you hurt yourself, I do hope it gets better quickly.

BearGryllsBra · 12/06/2011 09:41

sweaty noooooooo! You poor thing - get your little drama queen bahookie down to ER asap and get them to have a lookie. Such is right. Don't want you out of action too. It's a good job you hadn't already coughed up for gym membership. Hark at me though, I've still not been to doc about my foot - I hate going and suspect he'll say to me, well what do you expect at your age you old bag? Grin

JelliBelli · 12/06/2011 12:00

Sweaty I'm sorry you've hurt yourself but get yourself checked out!

If you do the worst that will happen is that they may think you're a wimp.

If you don't the worst that will happen is you'll bugger your ankle for ever and it will have an impact on your own lifestyle and that of your family. Imagine never being able to run again. Or ski. Or hike. Or dance with DH. Or run around with GC being silly. You'll get older much quicker.

Get checked out at once or we will all keep nagging you!!!

Grin

Did W7R3 this morning. Hurrah! It was quite hard towards the end but it is the longest I have (ever?) run before so that's ok, it's meant to be.

Can't believe I only have one week left of C25K. What do others do after they've fallen off the end of the programme? Start the 10k programme? What do you all plan to do?

KateMiddletonsEyebrows · 12/06/2011 13:46

@Jellibelli - I'm going to get myself running 5k first (as I anticipate when I get to the end of c25k I'll still only be running about 4k as I'm so slow), then probably find a 'bridge to 10k' podcast.

encyclogirl · 12/06/2011 18:01

W1R1. It's a start, and I believe in starts.

Hurt though, nearly coughed up a lung in the process!

KateMiddletonsEyebrows · 12/06/2011 18:28

well done encyclogirl - absolutely... I am so pleased with how far I've come since Week 1

sweatybrawearer · 12/06/2011 20:09

Thank you for the pep talk jelli. DH would probably quite like the thought of me not being able to dance with him any more Grin, as it would remove one of the sources of embarrassment from his life.

Bear, I fear my doctor will say the same. Last time I saw him I ended up with my arm in a splint for a few weeks (tendonitis in my wrist that I'd left too long) so I will try to go this week.

So frustrating, the weather is far cooler and I really wanted to get out for a run today. Gah!

sweatybrawearer · 12/06/2011 20:10

By the way, where has pistey gone? Haven't seen her for aaaaages!

BearGryllsBra · 12/06/2011 21:47

Yes well done encyclogirl, you will soon become addicted like us :)

No I've not seen Pistey around either, nor supersal or dubai, wonder where they are? Yes sweaty get yourself off to the ER and get that nice George Clooney to tend to you Grin.

Off to bed now as I'm shattered, it has rained non stop today here - going to try my tootlyfoot on the treadmill tomorrow and see how I get on.

Happy running!
