More space for us to talk about our progress on the C25K programme, the highs, the lows, the hills, the rain, our pelvic floors and our choice of running music!

All are welcome on this international thread, stay with us and enjoy success Grin

Morning all - hope all is well with out merry little band of bunny legged runners!

Welcome to instantfamily and dinasaw - will done, you will soon become addicted to this thread as much as running! And :( to Colonel with the sprained ankle - how frustrating - hope it's on the mend soon. supersalstrawberryshred - really think you need to add the shred onto your username now! I am in awe - saw a mention up there ^ of jumprope, and I ran away .

Did W6R2 yesterday - does anyone else find it hard to get started again when the runs are split up by a 3min walk? The first ten yesterday went fine (although my breathing was all over the place), then 3min walk, and then I struggled to get going again, although by the end of it, I was ok and running along quite nicely. Strange. Believe tomorrow is a 23min run - shriek - so will report back.

Have a good day :)

NimpyWindowmash · 26/04/2011 11:28

Hi everyone, new to this, never run in my life, except to the cake shop. Just thinking of starting Couch to 5k - I see there are various ipod Apps - can anyone recommend one? thanks in advance

mollycuddles · 26/04/2011 12:33

Welcome nimpywindowmash. I used/use the bluefin one. It was the cheapest at the time although had to pay 79p extra to upload a gps upgrade - wish I hadn't bothered with that as just tells me how slow I am. But the app is great and I have added my own playlist to it of rubbing type songs which helps inspire me etc. I've never run before and have really enjoyed it so far. And am slimmer and fitter too :)

mollycuddles · 26/04/2011 12:47

Running not rubbing !!!

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 26/04/2011 14:27

Hi Nimpy Grin at cake shop. I've been using the Laura one (NHS) from iTunes and it's been great - music not to my taste but from a motivation factor, it's very good - and FREE!

Good luck with it, keep posting and let us all know how you're doing - I'm on W6 now and had never run before, thought my humungous norkage would knock me out, but I'm still here Grin.

dubaipieeye · 26/04/2011 20:55

Just started gateway to 8k. Yikes!

First 30 minute run done!!

It went REALLY well Grin

Sluttyslut - I really hated the intervals once I'd got to running for 5/8 minutes or so. You've just warmed up and then you have to stop - then you can't get going again! Much prefer keeping going.

Go Calamity!

TBH Sal I think the warmup is a given - I have just started the 8k program and the 5 mins warmup and cool down are still there, as they are in the 10k-er (just listened to that whilst on the sofa so far!). I also started to find the stopping and starting annoying, you are not alone in that.

DPE

CalamityKate · 27/04/2011 09:45

Sal from what I can make out, stretching cold muscles is a no-no, so the gentle warming up afforded by walking is important so that you don't do yourself a mischief.

On my shred DVD, the warm up stretches involve movement (arm swings etc) - the static stretches are reserved for afterwards, when the muscles are warm.

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 27/04/2011 10:28

Yay CalamityKate! Well done!

Dubai - 8K - am seriously impressed!

supershreddiesal - are you starting W7 next then? Think we are on about the same one - will start that on Friday. Am still doing 5 min walk (some days tis more of an amble though Wink).

Yippee! Can you see me punching the air?! Went out at eight this morning, lucky black cat jumped out of hedge so took that as a sign and .... 25 minutes - DONE! And bonus - I'm still alive to tell the tale! When I started this I honestly never thought I'd get this far as I was such an exercisephobic, so I am feeling very, very happy Grin.

Twas hard but easier than the stopping and starting malarkey tbh.

Happy running everyone - I'm going to sort me out a running playlist (listened to Mr Blue Sky over and over and thought of midtowner running round Central Park!) as forgot to download W6R3 today - luckily my friend kept me on track. Suggestions wmost welcome!

Fab Slutty!! Well done! It's such a great feeling, isn't it? Honestly I know I bang on about it, but I never ever thought I'd do this; much less stick at it for 9 weeks! I'm usually HOPELESSLY faddy about things (oh, the exercise machines I've had and abandoned after a fortnight...) but I know I'm going to stick with this Grin

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 27/04/2011 13:16

Oooh thanks sal and calamity! I'm very faddy too, they come and go but so far I've managed to avoid an exercise fad Grin. Ouch to achilles - hope that goes soon. I know what you mean, I am forever banging on about it to anyone who will listen (must stop that), but I am just soooo excited that I can actually do it. Wish I'd done it years ago mind .....

midtowner · 27/04/2011 14:58

Hello all, just popping in for a quick wave - you are all doing so well! Welcome newcomers :)

I brought my trainers and running gear with me but they haven't yet seen the light of day - too busy and jetlagged, and have spent most of the last two days packing, unpacking and in the car. DS2 is ging back to school tonight so if it's still light when I get back from dropping him I might try and go then.

DPE - respect to your 8k!

cubscout · 27/04/2011 18:11

Gosh, everyone has been very busy. Well done everyone at the end of the programme and hello everyone new. I've not checked in for a few weeks because of work and holidays and (confess) I've been a bit slack [embarrased]

I am finding it quite hard to keep up running 5k 2 or 3 times a week. Some weeks I manage 1 x 5k and another shorter route, prob about 4k, but on Monday I gacve up after 2 miles. And I had to stop and walk for a couple of minutes. I seem to have lost my mojo, and often find my legs hurt Sad

I'm going out in 1/2 an hour while ds is at cubs and going to try my 2 1/2 mile route. Can you all send me some running vibes? After all the effort I have put in I can't stand to let it all go.

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 27/04/2011 20:03

Sending you shedloads of running vibes cubscout - have a good run :)

instantfamily · 27/04/2011 20:34

So good to see so many of you here sticking to the program! I started week 6 today despite a weird allergy-like runny nose.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/04/2011 20:47

Hello runners!
I went out today did about 3.5 K but had to go running at lunchtime, I practically died of sunstroke and heat exhaustion. Well obviously not, but cor it was so hot!!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/04/2011 21:10

Do you know it still seems extraordinary to me to be posting on a running thread!

I am so not a runner!! But I am now and that is weird Grin

mollycuddles · 27/04/2011 22:15

Absolutely piste I never imagined myself running but here we are. I did a 30 minute run today. Pushed myself and I am aching tonight. My best time yet but still 14 minute miles. Wonder if I'll ever do 5k in 30 mins. But I'm not getting despondent as I am improving. :)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/04/2011 22:21

Cubscout - hope your run went well tonight.

Ratherbe - respect for running at lunchtime in this weather!

SluttySlut - well done!

SuperSal - hope the achilles feels better tomorrow

Waves at everyone else. I did Week 9 Run 2 tonight. I realised that I had pushed myself to the limit on my last run so went a bit more slowly tonight, I was about 2 minutes slower at 20mins than the last one so cut my route shorter and still finished on 30mins (IYSWIM), felt much more manageable. I think I am going to miss Laura after this but not her music, looking forward to makng myself a new playlist at the weekend. I would still quite like something to tell me every time I have done another 5 mins though - any suggestions?

midtowner · 28/04/2011 09:34

Morning all!

The lure of the chippy was too strong last night, so I went out this morning instead and had a lovely run in the sunshine listening to birdsong instead of sirens. Saw squirrels and pheasants, but no cats or bunnies. Also tried out my summer gear - shorts and a vest top. I can't remember the last time I willingly wore shorts, except on a beach Grin.

Whoknows - when I had the nike + ipod going on my ipod touch (before it got lost) you could load your own music and it told you every five minutes. Alternatively, I've done my playlist so that I have about 10 mins of warm up music, a 10 min long song (a live version of Sultans of Swing Blush), and some keep-me-going songs (Mr Blue Sky, I will Survive), so I usually know roughly how I'm doing for time.
