Hello all, gosh it's ages since I posted. We've had my BFF, her husband and kids visiting so too many late nights and wine drinking not much chance to run. I went out with the husband of the couple this week - he's a hard core marathon runner/triathlete. Although he was barely jogging, I had to work a lot harder than usual to keep up :). Playing football in the park today with all the children I realised just how much fitter I am now.

It's unseasonably cold here just now, but I'll be in the UK for a few days next week - looking forward to some warmth :)

Happy Easter everyone!

CalamityKate · 23/04/2011 09:25

La la la la la..... ran last night and it was the best run, like, EVAH!!! Grin

Totally made up for the last couple of rubbish runs. Legs felt great, breathing fine. Could have totally done at least another ten minutes I reckon!

Feeling very optimistic about next week (final week, moving up to 30 mins running).

I totally think that having enough to eat makes a huge difference for me; I'd had a BBQ about 90 mins before I ran and it made a massive improvement to my energy levels.

V happy Grin

Thanks supersal and Calamity! Funnily enough yesterday was really hard - (W6R1 when you do a 5 min an 8 min and then a 5min) I really struggled, and was knackered at the end. Certainly didn't have my Easter bunny hopping legs on [bugrin], although plenty of them were hopping out of the hedgrows. Maybe I need food before I go out ... ran at eight on empty stomach.

Lots to catch up on this thread, we are a chatty bunch - have a lovely Easter everyone and hope you get some good runs in.

midtowner · 23/04/2011 16:47

Well done calamity! It's such a good feeling when it all comes together isn't it.

Slutty, your runs sound great with all the wildlife. Not much of that kind of thing here.

It's raining today, so my plans to get out have been dashed.

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 23/04/2011 18:29

Yes well done Calamity! So pleased you're back on form.

midtowner it is very pretty up there at the moment with all the flora and fauna. Probably best for me to run up there instead of past all the enticing shops in NY - I'm very easily distracted [bugrin]. Wish we were coming to NY on holiday again this year [busad].

After a really hot day, we are now in the middle of a humungous thunderstorm - lots of lightning, loud thunder and dark skies but strangely no rain - yet!

midtowner · 23/04/2011 23:06

Sounds dramatic Slutty!

The rain stopped, so, inspired by calamity and the big lunch I'd had I went out for a run around the park. I did 5.4 miles in about an hour with my bunny legs on :)

supersal, forgot to say before, respect to you for running AND shredding!

mollycuddles · 24/04/2011 11:48

I'm hoping to get out for a 45 minute run soon. As long as dh gets his head out of his arse for long enough to look after dd2. He's fallen off his diet and exercise regime and has been much less supportive since. He used to come with me pushing dd2 in her pram. Grrr.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 24/04/2011 12:03

I haven't been out for ages because I twisted my ankle on holiday last week and it's been v tender and swollen. Really want to try and get out either tonight or tomorrow though, before going back to work. Do you think it would be okay to strap my ankle up and try it? Am supposed to be starting week 3 but I suppose I should go back and do week 2 again?

happilyeverafter · 24/04/2011 15:31

Quick update from holiday, roped in my teenage sister as run buddy and we have been doing a run each morning along the seafront with a day off in between 'weeks'

We have done all the w1 and w2 runs and start w3 tomorrow. We are both really enjoying it, when the run duration increases though i shall be back home doing my usual routine so will drop to the recommended 3 runs per week. Have been shredding after each run too, little sister watched the warm up and scuttled off refusing to take part!

midtowner · 24/04/2011 15:46

molly - hope you managed to get out

ColBrandon - take it easy, you don't want to end up more injured than you started

happily - great progress! Shredding too! Wow!

I'm hobbling around after yesterday's long run and telling myself it did me good Smile. Not looking forward to tonight's flight - I'll be even stiffer than usual when I land tomorrow morning.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 24/04/2011 17:27

Thanks Midtowner - just had a go on Wii Sports and even that hurt my ankle, so I think I'll have to leave it for a few more days yet. It's a pain though, as I've lost my initial drive now!

instantfamily · 24/04/2011 17:50

can I join? I just returned from day 3 of week 5 and was so pleased that I started punching the air (a la Rocky) while still running. I've never come this far and I am planning to do the whole thing!

mollycuddles · 24/04/2011 18:26

Thanks midtowner - I got out. I have my heavy legs on today and even though I was really pushing myself I'm still as slow as the proverbial carthorse. But I did run for 45 minutes. Think I'm hormonal - hard to tell as on the contraceptive injection and still breast feeding dd2 (11 months) but am teary and anxious and have a monster spot on my chin. Hopefully my legs will be a bit bouncier soon.
Welcome instantfamily - I did punch the air after my first 20 minuter with no compunction. Colonel - you could run up and down a swimming pool to keep on track with the running with no weight bearing. I was advised this when my knees were sore early on but I solved that problem with proper shoes so haven't actually done it. Might be an idea.

WhoKnowsWhereTheChocolateGoes · 24/04/2011 20:54

Evening all,

Just got back from Week 9 R1, my first 30 mins, it was very hard (I pushed myself to go faster on a couple of sections early on as well as it being 2 mins longer than my last run. So, feeling good, especially after Friday's complete failure.

I've got a question for those at a similar stage to me, which is how far are you actually running? I just plotted tonight sun on MapMyRUn and it was 3.7km, so I'm some way short of the 5k in 30 minutes target still. I'm not sure whether after this week to stick to 30 mins and try and cover more distance in the same time, or keep increasing time. Or both!

Hello Instantfamily I only joined the thread last week, well done on your run today!

mollycuddles · 24/04/2011 21:21

I'm doing 3.5 miles in 45 minutes. Nowhere near 5k in 30 minutes. I'm trying not to think about it.

sybilfaulty · 25/04/2011 08:00

Not been out since Thursday because of various family visits and bottles of wine. We had friends over yesterday and then my son was up half the night so I was just too tired this am. DH is off to work in a minute so I'd have had to go at about 7.

Perhaps I will go once he is home tonight and it is a bit cooler.

Keep on running everyone.

Sal i find the jumprope parts of shred heavy on my knees/calves.

Hope all the injured runners are back on track soon. Welcome instantfamily.

Wk3, run1 seemed way too easy. Having only 4 running sections seemed weird after having 6/8. Sister felt same, we were tempted to do next days at end. 3 mins is easy but i saw that week 5 ends with a 20 min run which seems way out of reach at the minute.

I've just returned from doing week 1 run 1. I've thought about it before but never got round to it cos I never thought I could run. I plan to go out again on Wednesday morning.
