Thank you. Dp made me do some stretches and also gave my legs a quick massage, which has helped! Now need to make myself go out again on Weds or Thurs...now...where did I put that motivation-pill? :)

Hi all newbies esp colonel and letsgetloud I'm a heifer - BMI 33. (It was 46 last May when I had dd2.) Until January when I started going to exercise classes 1/2 a week I'd not exercised in about 9 years! I lost about 3 stone just breast feeding and walking the second half of last year. I started c25k as I signed up to do a 4 mile run in May and I'm so busy with full time work and the 3 dcs I needed to do something that would give me results without me needing to spend hours at it. My first run of 1 min at the start of February was seriously painful. Now I'm still really slow - I'm not following c25k as such now (should be on wk 8) because I was getting nowhere near 5k in 30 mins so instead of getting stressed about how slow I am I've started running for a bit longer. I ran about 3k yesterday in a lovely but hilly local park. Took me 45 minutes. Seriously if I can do it, anyone can!

justaminute · 04/04/2011 21:41

slutty I shouldn't laugh but your comment "shorts, shriiiekkk! The day I go out in shorts will be the day I can run faster than Paula Radcliffe. I'd frighten the children!" has really made me smile. I'm totally with you!

I forced myself out tonight to do w8r2, I hadn't been out since last Tuesday so I was worried I would fail but I did it Smile slightly less distance than last time but the main thing is I did it.

Keep with it newbies it has given me a massive sense of achievement. Never would have dreamed of being able to run keep moving for 28 minutes 8 weeks ago.

letsgetloud · 04/04/2011 21:44

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Oh no colonel. What am I letting myself in for??

Slutty looks for bar of soap. Actually it was ok typing it. Smile. I know this sounds like excuses but Dh spent 1 and a half hours trying to download it to ipod Hmm. Has now advised he can only do it from his computer in work.

So feel I have really let myself down. I was actually looking forward to it. Was all motivated. Had been pouring all day then sun split sky at 4.30pm and thought that was most certainly my sign.

Anyhow new day tomorrow. If Dh disappoints me again tomorrow I might have to just count 60 seconds then 90 seconds however many times.

Supersal-I can't imagine being at W4. Do you feel fitter now? You must be very proud of yourself.

Molly-you have came along way. From a 1 minute run being painful only 8/9 weeks ago to being able to run for 45 minutes.

I don't actually think I know how to run. Was thinking of going to a proper sports shop to get my gait analysed etc. for proper running shoes. I would be too embarrassed to go at the moment as don't think I could actually run, let alone in front of other people (then to add insult to injury I would have to watch it back on video Blush).

Anyhow, sorry to go on. Just to let you all know you are inspiring me. I will now have to stop the talk and do the action.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 04/04/2011 21:48

Molly - you are doing amazingly well. I will think of you next time I'm thinking it's hard, if that's okay?!

Letsgetloud - I'm doing it by counting, as I haven't got an MP3 player. My thinking is that even if I miscount a bit, it's got to be better than the nothing I was doing before!

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 05/04/2011 08:57

Grin at run keep moving comment justaminute. Sums me up!

Wow Molly - well done!

Letsgetloud - you've made the first step to doing it by joining us here, and we will all keep each other going. Until you get the lovely Laura podcast on your iPod, just count, and like you say it's better than doing nothing. During W2 I bought some new running shoes from our local running shop as the ones I was wearing Blush were children's ones from the sale in M&S about ten years ago. I tried on loads and eventually (after running up and down the shop like this Blush), they forced persuaded me onto the treadmill (in the shop window - I am still traumatised!), and videoed me. But panic ye not as tis only your feet they video, and actually is was really interesting to watch back and see my funny run. Do it, I love my new shoes, it makes me happy just putting them on.

Hope everyone has a lovely day, running or not.

mollycuddles · 05/04/2011 13:14

Thanks for the plaudits - especially as I told you I did 3k in 45 mins. It was actually 3 miles. I'm slow but not that slow! Ran 45 mins this am. Gps said it was less than on Sunday but dh said not. He's measured various runs as he runs by distance not time. I checked on google maps and definitely about 3.6 miles in total. So I can run 5k!!! Not and possibly never in 30 minutes but am very very chuffed anyway.

letsgetloud · 05/04/2011 21:44

Molly well done. I will never be able to run for 45 mins at whatever pace. Well could walk it at a 3 year olds pace with loads of breaks.

Slutty- I can't remember but think you are half way through. You are doing excellent. If your muscles are still sore the next time you are due to run do you just run anyway.

I have never done any form of excercise and not sure if you are just suppose to to run through the pain. No pain no gain and all that.

Well I did it. My first walk/jog of the podcast. Laura is lovely isn't she? Though even her words of encouragement didn't enable me to run for 8 mins of it. I did the first three 60 seconds, after next 90 second walk I just couldn't push myself for the fourth 60 seconds. Walked it out again and then carried on.

So I missed one of the jogs out. Just hoping I can improve on it during my second jog of wk1. I was also eyeing up benches at the various bus stops on my route for a rest. Thankfully didn't succumb so feel quite proud.

Well I am still all talk but have done a wee bit of action.

midtowner · 06/04/2011 00:40

Hello all and welcome newcomers to this thread!

I've only been out once so far since I got back on Saturday morning. Did the same route as last time I was here, but got further (but I think I was still on 20 or 25 mins at that point). Hills were a killer. Have taken delivery of snazzy/scary (take your pick!) shorts and top from www.sportsdirect.com to further embarrass my family :).

I'm going to try going across the fields tomorrow, as it hasn't been too wet this week.

Supersal - Ahh, I also tie a micro fleece around my waist when attempting to run, although with me it's more to hide the Horror Of My Stomach leaping around like an over-enthusiastic labrador puppy........

Hello everyone. I hope be joining you back on The Programme soon, a couple more days to go with the latest antibiotics. I seem to need to be asleep a lot at the moment, it's seriously odd.

Thanks for various people's kind words - and yes, sorry can't remember who asked, but I'm rapidly becoming part woman, part cranberry....... (although am I also part labrador puppy, do you think??? Shock)

WannabeaShootingStar · 06/04/2011 19:13

Hi
Can I join?
I'm just about to go out and do day one of week two. Week one went really well but I seem to be averaging two rest days in between runs due to other life commitments (three children, bed times, after school activities etc)....

Thanks :)
I've just done day one of week two and it went well :)
I had put the podcast on my phone this time instead of ipod and that was a mistake as the silly headphones kept falling out Angry so it's back to the ipod Friday.
One of the school dads stopping his car to ask what I was doing was also a bit embarrassing!!

Am really fed up and I knew running was bad for me!

Just went totally splat when running Sad hands and knees all scraped and looking like my son's used to when he was about 9. I even had dripping blood from my fingers on my right hand, and it was running down my leg....

But the worst is my iphone has died < wails > as the screen is totally smashed.

Oh dear RBOTP :( :(

How did you fall???

I go at 7.30 so it is 'almost' dark but not too dark. I hate people seeing me as I work in the local shop (when not on maternity leave which I am until August) so know pretty much the whole village, but driving somewhere else would take yet more time out of my already too busy life and at least I feel 'safe' running where I know people.

Also I figure I wouldn't laugh at someone else doing it so why would they laugh at me :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/04/2011 21:21

I tripped over a sodding, wanky, bastard, bollocking uneven paving stone.

Oh piste oh no you poor thing! Will one of these Wine help? Or one of these Brew? Are you patched up now?

Don't talk to me about i-phones (I have a long and painful saga to do with ds's). In fact, I was going to come on here tonight and explain the patented midtowner way of running faster which includes:

staying with aging parents, in a house that is too small.

having two boys and all their boarding school stuff in said house.
having PMT.
having jetlag.
having another fruitless convo with the o2 call centre.
blasted NY colleagues expecting me to be available when I'm on leave (NB not holiday!).

This creates enough stress for me to have been my fastest ever. I had to tun without i-pod because DS2 had helped himself to it while taken out by GPs this afternoon to "stop him being bored", which also notched up my bloop pressure a few points.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/04/2011 21:24

Oh Go.. Thought my day wasn't going well Midtowner, passes the gin bottle.
