More space for us to talk about our progress on the C25K programme, the highs, the lows, the hills, the rain, our pelvic floors and our choice of running music!

All are welcome on this international thread, stay with us and enjoy success Grin

SluttySlut - apparently the rest periods are so important but I know how tempting it is to just keep going. I find my best runs are often on a Monday after 2 days rest. My legs/lungs seem to really appreciate it.

I've been reading about it and apparently loads of the winning/record breaking runs, both marathon and sprint have been achieved after a longish rest. I was glad to read that because I'd been worrying that if I had a break (due to illness or whatever) my fitness, so hard won, would plummet but apparently that's not the case which is nice to know.

Today was so lovely - for the first time, rather than it getting gradually harder, both wrt achey legs and breathing, it levelled off. My aim is to be able to run at a decent pace (as opposed to my present jog which is, if I'm honest, barely faster than walking pace but obviously more strenuous), for at LEAST half an hour, without feeling as if I'm about to die.

I'll definitely go onto the B210K after this :D

YorkshireCrockpot · 02/04/2011 08:47

Loving that picture if 'me'. Looks like I should be in sydney- closest I get water here is the river Trent brrrrr!

Can't get out today dh has to work and we're off out tonight (wine vs running... Hmmm wine!) but tomorrow is looking promising.

Clenched- I know the feeling of being setback well, I should have finished weeks ago but due to DDs, dh working, lack of eyes, rain etc I haven't been able to get out. It's so frustrating. Glad to hear the corners are still there though. I sadly don't have a corner in by bottom more of a curve but I aspire to cornerdom!

Well done to all who are getting out and motoring along far better than me, I'm not very dedicated to the cause but I do love it.

YorkshireCrockpot · 02/04/2011 08:49

Just read that back- not a corner IN my bottom Blush that is the realms of other threads on here!

YorkshireCrockpot · 02/04/2011 08:51

Calamity- I have seriously long rest periods so I'm glad to read that!

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 02/04/2011 09:57

Oooh hurrah for that Calamity - yes that's what I was worried about - I thought if I missed a few days/runs I would be back to square one and would be back pechin' like an old steam engine again!

midtowner I dreamt I was running along 57th St last night, and was running so fast and easily, my feet (literally) were not touching the ground, sort of running a foot above the ground Confused - . Hope you have a lovely flight!

dubaipieeye · 02/04/2011 12:38

Calamity well done! 20 mins filled me with terror but somehow you just do it, don't you? Those pre week 5 take heart.

I am defo losing weight! Having some trousers made at the tailors and I am sending him insane as every time I go in for a fitting he has to make them smaller Grin . Not sure whether it is the shred or the running that's burning the bulge faster but so long as it is going I am happy!

Oh and my dodgy hip has never felt better. Broke my leg very badly as a kid and docs think I had some small fractures in my hip which didn't heal well/weren't picked up. Have been told several times that I will need a hip replacement by 40 but having started running it feels so much loser and more flexible. Triple, no...quadruple, YAHOO!

Have downloaded Gateway to 8k from kissmyblackass.org

sybilfaulty · 02/04/2011 14:14

Abortive run for me today. I tried to pop out earlier on but seem to have picked up a tummy bug from the kids who have all been a bit under the weather this week, and had to throw up and come home. I'll try to get another one in tomorrow.

Well done on teh weight Dubai. I don't think I have lost lbs but am more toned and generally in better nick. Apart from today of course!

Keep on running everyone.

cubscout · 02/04/2011 19:50

Hello all, and hasn't everyone been doing well. Well done on the 20 min Calamity.

Clenched - sorry you are still poorly. Do you drink cranberry? Might help a bit.

Dubai - I am struggling to even think about running in a UK summer as I get so hot, so I am in awe!

Piste - seems like taking it easy has paid off and your knee is holding ok.

I am somehow finding it difficult to run a full 5k every time I go out. I'm better in the morning, but some days I just want to give up after 20 mins or so. I'm sure it's a psychological barrier - someone told me that once you can run for 30 mins then adding distance is no big deal. Am wondering about going back to a training programme as the targets help keep you moving forward. So maybe Bridge210k after all...

Anyway, yesterday, right on the home stretch I spotted 2 boys from ds school in Year 6 (small school, older siblings of ds friends so I know them both). They were on their way to Scouts, so I speeded up, did a little ponytail toss and a cheery 'hello'. Their faces were a picture. I am one sad woman hoping to impress two 11 year olds!

Keep on running everyone.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 02/04/2011 19:55

Well......

I have just done Day One of Week One.

Am I allowed to be on here now please? :)

I walked for five mins then alternated 1 min walks and about 85 second runs for 20 minutes then walked for ten minutes. Does that sound okay, do you think?

It was okay - my heart rate was mad for the first couple of running bits then got better whilst my legs got worse with each one!

I didn't break into a sweat though - does that mean I should have pushed it harder? I wanted to take it carefully, as I am an absolute exercise novice tbh.

sybilfaulty · 02/04/2011 21:05

Welcome Colonel Smile

Sounds fantastoc for a first day out. Way more than I managed. Hacve you got a podcast? MAny of us have used them and found them helpful. You will soon be addicts like the rest of us.

My poor son has a temp, my DD2 is still awake but thankfully my tum has settled. Time for Wine I think.

Keep on running everyone.

bluebump · 02/04/2011 21:32

Well done Colonel, I find by the 3rd and last run of each week i've 'got it' and I can just about do it and then along comes the next week and the next challenge! Grin

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 02/04/2011 22:12

Thank you both. Haven't got an MP3 player, so no podcast. DP stood at the corner of the track (we have a running track in the park) and waved me on!

Hope your son feels better soon, Sybil.

sybilfaulty · 03/04/2011 09:17

Having been up half the night with an ill child, it is probably ill advised to try to run now but after yesterday's farce I need to try.

See you shortly. Wish me luck.

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 03/04/2011 09:37

You poor thing sybil, you must be shattered - good luck with your run, maybe it will rejuvenate you. Hope your poorly child feels better.

Welcome colonel! I'm quite new here too, W4R1 tomorrow hopefully - encouragement and inspiration aplenty here :) Another NHS podcast user here.

sybilfaulty · 03/04/2011 10:19

Thank you slutty, I managed about 2.5miles, but could not run it all and had to run / walk the last mile as too tired. Feel knackered now but am sure after a shower I will feel rejuvenated.

Need some hot weather clothes. I stup[idly wore my long sleeve hot top and warm running tights which were great when it was a crisp 5 degrees, but less funny when it' s about 15. I feel too self conscious for sleeveless and shorts but I guess I'll have to get over it.

Keep on running everyone.

sybilfaulty · 03/04/2011 10:20

Oh and slutty the poorly child has now drowned the bathroom floor in an attempt to clean it so I think he's on the mend!! Thanks for asking.

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 03/04/2011 16:05

Awww sybil, a mother's work is never done! Even on Mother's Day!

And shorts, shriiiekkk! The day I go out in shorts will be the day I can run faster than Paula Radcliffe. Grin I'd frighten the children!

Yippee! Well done supersal!

letsgetloud · 04/04/2011 13:55

I once read on mumsnet, along time ago that there is a way to download the walking/jogging times from couch to 5k, onto an i pod?

Does anyone on this thread know how I would find the link or whereabouts I go on the couch to 5k site to find it.

I have tried the site for a while but didn't come across it.

When you all started out, did you just count the times or use a stop watch or just your own watch?

I have so many questions. I am really impressed by what I have read on this thread so far. You's all seem to have done fantastic. Did you have some level of fitness before you embarked on the programme?

I don't have any. I walk the kids to school, nursery etc. but not exactly far distances and I have to walk at a child's pace. Though most days I do more than 15,000 steps (I have inherited my daughters pedometer).

Any advice on how you worked out how long you walked/jogged for and how fit you were before starting would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot.

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 04/04/2011 15:54

Hi letsgetloud and welcome!

I've not long started C25K, (just finishing W3) - I downloaded the free podcast from iTunes, the NHS Laura one, but there are couple of others too. Lots of information here, and I think there's a breakdown of what you actually do too, and there's a link to the podcasts.

I was a lazy cow complete novice, so if I can do it anyone can - this thread is great for inspiration and encouragement, and I've gone from no exercise, to loving it and blethering on about it any chance I get. :)

bluebump · 04/04/2011 16:47

I downloaded the NHS one too to my ipod letsgetloud, you can find it in iTunes under podcasts or just do a general search.

letsgetloud · 04/04/2011 16:56

Thanks ladies. I found it on the link you provided ssoftheskies.I just can't bring myself to say your name, even though it is your name, I don't want to offend you Grin. I am so delighted as now I can start tonight. Well, provided dh downloads it for me as I don't have a clue how to.

My plan of action, get all little people to bed whilst dh downloads that. Drive to a very flat road and walk/jog slowly. Smile

I have no excuses now. Thanks again.

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 04/04/2011 17:09

Grin you can call me slutty! Glad you found it, yy to flat road. Got to go as picking running buddy up, so good luck and don't forget to pop on later and let us know how you got on.
