Peregrina · 16/02/2022 21:42

I have signed. I expect it to make zero difference, but at least I can say that I have nailed my colours to the mast.

Opal8 · 16/02/2022 21:52

Me too ✔️

Can I have whatever he's on? JRM says Brexit is "already a success".

BBC News - Jacob Rees-Mogg says little evidence Brexit hit trade
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-60407234

quiteathome · 17/02/2022 07:39

It probably is for him though.
Just the rest of us are screwed

AuldAlliance · 17/02/2022 14:14

Did JRM really say "evidence is few and far between"??

If he's losing grip of his countable/uncountable nouns, he must be a bit rattled.
Or perhaps his posh education isn't all it's cracked up to be.
Or maybe he's been reading too many letters from Sun readers extolling Brexit benefits.

DGRossetti · 17/02/2022 14:37

I see there are moves afoot to amend the A50 process to require countries to submit a working plan before they leave.

In other news, the Brexit Benefits report Liam Fox is championing is basically an advert for rejoining the EU.

This week's summary

DGRossetti · 17/02/2022 16:35

Meanwhile Belgium allowing employees to work a 4-day week.

I bet that's something JRM isn't planning for the serfdom

www.forbes.com/sites/jackkelly/2022/02/15/belgium-is-the-latest-country-to-join-the-four-day-workweek/

I hope by hybrid working (and supporting and enabling hybrid working) I am in my own small way causing paper cuts of pain to the wunch of bunts that thought they'd be better off in 2022 after Brexit. Because the more hysterical the Tory press gets the more it suits me.

DGRossetti · 17/02/2022 17:01

... and RIP P.J.O'Rourke.

I enjoyed this little thread.

That thread is a bit one sided Smile

This has cheered me up no end in a dark humour hollow laugh kind of way. Particularly this one…

Nathalie Elphicke, who is so dense no light can escape her, boasted that the main benefit of Brexit was new jobs created by all the red tape she pledged to immediately destroy

And this one…

Russian officials told Wallace there was “close to zero” point in him even being there, and abandoned his meeting to attend one with an EU delegate instead

There is no future dystopian Orwellian future. It’s the present. We’re living it.

pointythings · 18/02/2022 14:36

Meanwhile chez pointy I have followed up on my wishes and adopted two more kittens from the rescue I support. They're immigrants from a sister rescue in Romania.

I also had a lovely long chat with my late husband's cousin who is a lifelong dedicated Tory voter who has never voted anything else. She is livid at the Conservatives, apologised to me for voting Leave and is exploring her voting options. I would never have bet on her saying any of the things she said yesterday.

Opal8 · 18/02/2022 14:44

Hope everyone is keeping safe in the wild weather today 🙏

Ministers set to drop UK ban on foie gras and fur imports

Peregrina · 19/02/2022 10:12

So what would be a genuine benefit of Brexit - the cessation of cruel animal practices bites the dust. I can't remember which poster it was who insisted that Brexit would enable higher welfare standards.

Didn't we hear a lot about the 'will of the people'? How many people really care about foie gras or whether guardsmen wear bearskins - in the sense that if both were banned they would not be upset?

FrankieStein403 · 19/02/2022 10:29

If you had to lay a bet on which commoner would still partake of foie gras reesmug would be odds on.

AuldAlliance · 19/02/2022 12:23

JRM's grasp of the reasoning behind freight checks is as scary as everything else about him.
twitter.com/AdamBienkov/status/1494956100738822144

Also spotted in the comments that oranges can now be sold in UK supermarkets if they've been treated with Imazlil.

Hope those Sun readers have come up with some good bonuses, because the downsides are, unpredictably, quite shit.
