PMK.
No recent cat pics, so here is a sunlit upland in southern France view of some vines from my early morning walk.

Interesting point about the containers being needed elsewhere - yet another slew of reasons for logistics to swerve the UK.

[long time read/occasional poster, NC]

Thanks for the link, I didn’t understand the intricacies, but it sounds like another clusterfuck to add to the growing pile.

What I want to say is - wtf does BJ class everything as world beating? It’s patronising, meaningless and irritating.

Not to mention they may well have been world beating if the govt hadn’t put brick walls inside/around their operations.

HappyWinter · 08/10/2021 12:59

Thanks for the new thread @vera99.

The extra shipping issues will lead to more shortages?

Because it's nectar to the gammonati.

GlassOfPort · 08/10/2021 13:35

To be fair, the BBC can still produce some very good journalism.

Here, for example Lewis Goodall debunks the idea that reducing immigration will increase productivity

@HappyWinter

Thanks for the new thread *@vera99*.

That's how I read it.

Basically the UK is more than welcome to double or treble how long it takes to process a ship the size of an Evergreen. But there are going to be cost implications. Plus some people will simply stop shipping to the UK directly. Instead they'll ship to the EU and then forward the goods as and when there are HGVs free. Luckily this is exactly what the business leaders of the UK were demanding for years - or so Boris will tell them.

I'm thinking Boris has allowed himself to become the scapegoat for Brexit. Let him cover himself with it's effects and take the shit on behalf of the Tories who will pop up in a few years time and blame him,

DuncinToffee · 08/10/2021 14:18

Interesting

How the government's 'fake news’ operation targets journalists on Twitter.

wewereliars · 08/10/2021 14:28

Yes Glassofport the BBC has some fantastic journalists, and was something that probably could have been called world beating for a number of years.

And I accept that the establishment line was always toed to a significant extent. I certainly don't agree with the defunding rubbish.

That's why its news department's transformation into Tory lapdog is so desperately sad and infuriating.

vera99 · 08/10/2021 14:39

@DuncinToffee

That Civil Service tweet twice a day (fan account)
@ThatCivilTweet
Arrogant and offensive. Can you imagine having to work with these truth twisters?

Interesting @DuncinToffee I’ve been suspicious for a while about a certain topic on here

More project fear.

When will they understand they lost?

When they said we lost they were right but they missed out on themselves as well - we have all lost. And no we won't move on cos we got no fuel ! Two garages still out here though plenty in Lincolnshire at the weekend. So whatever the reason I think we can put government incompetency into the mix.

I have been thinking about these fuel shortages. Why don't extinction rebellion organise themselves to buy all the fuel in some filling stations, photograph a queue and create a panic?
vera99 · 08/10/2021 15:37

We might get to the point where resources get diverted to Brexit supporting areas whilst remoaner redoubts are left hanging in the wind.

Sad news about my next door local MP Brokenshire he was by all accounts a good man as tories go and a remainer. Will be interesting to see how the by-election goes. Can't imagine it changing hands he had a 65% majority. Though if labour on 25% could do some deals with Lib Dems (which won't happen) we could start a progressive alliance fight back.

OP posts:
Peregrina · 08/10/2021 15:55

Yes sad about Brokenshire. It might have been possible to overturn his stonking majority, as in Chesham and Amersham, if it had been a seat in which the Lib Dems came second traditionally, but they don't - it's usually Labour which came second. I can't see Labour doing very well there this time. So the Tory party needs to find another Brexit clone to put in the seat.

DrBlackbird · 08/10/2021 16:46

Okay I’ve found you all. PMK for the next / continuing world beating chaos and incompentence of the Johnson government.

rrhuth · 08/10/2021 16:56

FFS is all I thought when reading this: www.eadt.co.uk/news/suffolk-busses-hit-by-driver-shortage-8387440

dontcallmelen · 08/10/2021 17:32

Indeed sad news about James Brokenshire.
Still very patchy with fuel in my neck of the woods the nearest garage has been shut for the last two days, no milk & very little bread in Sainsbury’s again today, Lidl’s cleaning products aisle still really sparse.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 08/10/2021 17:39

Thanks for the link to the Adam Bienkov article, @DuncinToffee .

Here's another extract from him:

"... Johnson and his party are attempting to claim three contradictory positions at the same time. Within the space of a few days they have claimed that:

  1. There are no shortages.
  1. The shortages are not caused by Brexit.
  1. The shortages are partly caused by Brexit, but a good thing and all part of a bigger plan.

Not all of these positions can be true at the same time and in reality none of them are."

Pmk and thank you @vera99

wewereliars · 08/10/2021 19:24

So I held my nose and watched Thursday's QT. And I am glad I did.

Very angry audience, not accepting any of the usual tory bullshit. Almost felt sorry for Nadhim Zahawi, only almost.

Maybe the tide is beginning to turn?
