Westministenders: Where's my milk and cheese?

The 'smooth' exit from transition now leads to a million and one little things that you can't get hold of or took completely for granted.

Why is sainsbury in NI selling spa milk? Why can't you get hold of your favourite food stuff?

Its a slow strangulation of the country.

In which you get to learn all about the merits of the EU and what a donkey Johnson really is.

Re getting rid of the 48 hour working time directive:

Anton Spisak @AntonSpisak
We have to wait for detail before drawing conclusions. But if it meant scrapping the 48-hour week, it would very likely count as a breach of the non-regression clause within the EU deal. And, if proven to have impact on trade with EU, it would entitle Brussels to impose tariffs.

Yes - seriously.

HannibalHayes · 14/01/2021 22:35

What? You mean it hadn't come up in any of your previous cut'n'pastes?

Or don't you actually bother to read them? Sounds more likely

ODFOD...

@RedToothBrush

Hows it going for the much loved of the wealthy?
“much loved of the wealthy” is not really applicable here.

Horse racing generates around £3.5 billion in the UK. Horse movements between Ireland / UK / France was running at 26,000 per year under the tripartite agreement. It’s the second largest spectator sport in the UK, and Ascot, Epsom, Cheltenham and Aintree are in the top 10 sporting events of the year by attendance figures. Add in eventing and you have six of the top 10.

It’s way more valuable than fish to the economy.

RedToothBrush · 14/01/2021 22:37

Question: How do you measure the happiness of fish? Is there a fish happiness scale?

That's quite enough fish jokes, end of, fin. Smile

I don't think so - you can check if you like. To be fair, I had heard their name bandied about but they didn't interest me before.

Peregrina · 14/01/2021 22:55

Cod do better!

So it appears to me that the useless negotiator Johnson has sold out the fishermen - no surprise there.
He's not yet offered the finance markets anything -
And now he's about to sell out the horse racing industry. What will Dido Harding say to that?

Peregrina · 14/01/2021 22:58

As far as horse movements go - I would imagine that moving them on those nice new ferries between Rosslare and Dunkirk will be equally acceptable as a long journey via the land bridge in the UK?

So, Clav. Tell us how worker's rights are going to be protected now?

Starting with;
End of the 48-hour limit working week
Black small squareRest breaks
Black small squareOvertime Pay
Black small squareHoliday Pay Entitlements

HannibalHayes · 15/01/2021 00:56

Don't tell me, she had to go out...

TurquoiseBaubles · 15/01/2021 02:42

I wonder how many of the 700,000 foreign workers who have left London over the past year have been nurses and healthcare workers. I personally know/know of a fair few Irish nurses who have gone home, and more than half of the European nurses who were on dd's ward last summer are no longer in London.

They could do with a few of them back.

TurquoiseBaubles · 15/01/2021 02:44

And she's being asked to work a hell of a lot more than 48 hour weeks at the moment, working 14 hour shifts with no break, and with all holidays cancelled.

The UK didn't need to leave the EU to shit on their workers from a great height. They have done it happily to some parts of society (especially minimum wage earners) for years.

Peregrina · 15/01/2021 08:23

It's what the Tories want. I hope those Red Wall voters who put their trust in the Tories enjoy the results.

And for the first person who comes along with a What about Corbyn - he wouldn't have been proposing a bonfire of workers rights. One time staunch Lexiters woke up to the fact that the EU was protecting those rights. Besides which as we see - we didn't need to leave the EU to a have a gig economy with zero hours contracts- Germany doesn't. The Germany that the ardent Leavers are still having the screaming hab- dabs about. There is a lot wrong now with this country, and almost none of it will be fixed by being out of the EU.
