It's insanity alright!

Thanks for the storing veg outside/in shed tips. I hadn't thought of that! I'm going to get some things for post-Christmas. I feel like I'm mad for doing it, but looking at those lorry queues we will probably get delays.

Dontlickthetrolley · 20/12/2020 12:45

The cool box leaks! However hopefully 2 cans of tuna and a chip crisper will stop anymore veg sitting in water and I must remember to check it every couple of days!

Put a bin bag over its top, Dontlick! Which has reminded me that I didn't buy bin bags, or washing up liquid come to think of it, in Home Bargains yesterday. Darn, I'm not going near it again really (now I'm WFH, I don't get to shops like I used to when I was in a city centre).

I forgot toothpaste. And chocolate. (Doh !) Out on Tuesday to collect glasses.

Didn't get the car sorted. Hey ho. Nevermind. Life will go on.

quiteathome · 20/12/2020 19:09

Going to Costco tomorrow. Trying to work out what I need. Toilet paper and toothpaste I think and juice.

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 20/12/2020 20:44

I think I'm going to Sainsbury's first thing tomorrow. The freight news has spooked me a bit to be honest. I'll stock up on apples, peppers, cucumbers etc. Hurrah for SmartShop so nobody sees what I'm buying! 😂

I can't get to a shop as small people in tow 4 days before Christmas is a supermarket is my kind of hell. I have a click and collect for Wednesday that I'm guessing will be a this will have to do shop. Going to finalise it tonight in the hope they keep an eye on what's been ordered and keep some aside (I know, wishful thinking!)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/12/2020 21:42

I've a supermarket delivery coming on the 30th and a veg box this week and first week of Jan. As I'm supposed to shield it feels very odd indeed to not be able to get any more in before then. Goodness knows what will turn up in them. 5 cabbages and a swede I reckon.

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 20/12/2020 21:55

Sains and Tesco open at 6am.
I've set the alarm already Xmas Grin
Just need to sharpen my elbows...

Dontlickthetrolley · 20/12/2020 22:02

Our Tesco opens at 00.01, still not an option though!

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 20/12/2020 22:50

Sainsbury's is at 6 here. I've got a 6.30 alarm so will go then. I'm a bony type at the best of times, but will also sharpen the old elbows!

@OhYouBadBadKitten, have you an Iceland near you? You might be able to get some stuff sooner if so.

OP posts:
Dontlickthetrolley · 20/12/2020 22:59

I've just managed to get an Iceland slot for tomorrow for fresh stuff mainly and more cheese

FinallyHere · 20/12/2020 23:06

Only a few months ago our garage was full to the rafters, with mostly junk. After a concerted effort to get it cleared out, it is finally almost half empty, hurrah. I spent today building some racking and then loading up the shelves with our stash.

Mostly all 'really useful boxes' as the squirrels have no trouble getting into the garage and shoe great energy and persistent getting into things.

Tomorrow is scheduled for a full stock take of freezer and racking. And breathe.

Thank you lovely preppers, I'm not sure I would have kept going without this thread to sustain me v

BlackeyedSusan · 21/12/2020 02:46

Ex did an Iceland order this morning before freight announcement. I have a Morrisons delivery booked.
Tuesday is glasses collection day and possibly chocolate buying day.
Today I have been sorting the fridge and cooking vegetables for the freezer.

Asda click and collect on Wednesday is not looking hopeful. People are saying lots of stuff is unavailable.

Well, I have done all i can manage. What's not done now is too late.

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 21/12/2020 05:06

Dontlick You were right! Our Tesco was open at midnight, we went to bed for a few hrs and went at 3am.
There were 2 other shoppers in there + staff. It's been busier (during lockdown) at 7am. Xmas Grin
I now have cheese! and bacon, eggs, flour, beer, cat food, beer and much more pasta
We decided against Sains, as the areas around that are really rural, and there's not really much of an alternative small morrisons and tiny coops for miles.

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 21/12/2020 08:22

Sainsbury's done! It was dead, so not many other loons like me! 😂😂

EveLe · 21/12/2020 08:34

I’m keeping fingers crossed for my Asda order today, it’s not booked until 4, so hoping panic buying doesn’t clear the shelves before it’s been picked this morning.

A friend is on a 6am shift this morning at Sainsbury’s and she told me the lockdown rules mean they are back to limiting numbers in store! They are expecting huge queues outside, as store limit is 320 (including staff!) and she reckons there’ll be up to 20 pickers on shop floor, with till staff as well, that leaves less than 300 shoppers in store at a time. I pity the poor staff who’ll
be counting them in today!

Whenwillow · 21/12/2020 08:51

I popped into tesco at 8am to get Christmas dinner as we weren't hosting and suddenly we are. It was busy but not pandemonium. They looked very prepared. They have a traffic light system so imagine queues if it gets mad later on. Nobody was stockpiling, they were just normal Christmas week looking trolleys. The shelf stacking staff were extremely busy and a glance into the warehouse bit out back showed it very well stocked. I assume once that's gone it's gone, unless our govt magically sort something out yeah right
I was very careful to only get what we need this week, and stayed away from pasta, loo roll and long life milk, as we have our apocalypse stash already Halo

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 21/12/2020 09:05

I'm not opening my Brexit bog roll until there are actual shortages, saving it for when I'm desperate. I did buy some today as we're due some and the shelves were rammed with it!

OP posts:
Whenwillow · 21/12/2020 09:08

I was tempted @ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy but I have no excuse as we had loads long before covid and have continued to buy some most weeks (once it was readily available)
It's a hard habit to break!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 21/12/2020 09:18

I thought I might try later or in a few days. We have most of Christmas stuff. Anything missing isn’t going to make a huge difference or leave is short. It might just leave us a bit short of veg that isn’t roasted.

Will just do a normal shop when I go, maybe a couple of long life milk as could do with more of those. But there’s nothing I couldn’t really do without if needed right now.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/12/2020 14:52

Lost my kitchen under the shopping. Better go sort it out.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/12/2020 14:53

Playing fridge Tetris is not my favourite activity.

Best go and see what I can fit in.
