Minor warning - had a delivery last night - chiller unit on van broken so no cold items sent/delivered. No notice/warning of this. In my case not disastrous at all but I did think ‘bloody hell if this were next week and I were someone different this could be a ‘disaster’.

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 15/12/2020 06:52

Yes. Unexpected things like that can have a massive effect for some people. Add in general Christmas pressures to stock and there's a perfect storm brewing in the next week.

Large Sainsburys shop coming later.
I rarely drink alcohol but I remembered to get a red and white for risotto and pasta sauce purposes. I often freeze chunks of wine to throw in recipes at a later date.

CrunchyCarrot · 15/12/2020 07:47

Well, my freezer is jammed full. I think I'll go through a couple of the drawers to repack and see if I can reclaim some space!

EnPoinsettia · 15/12/2020 07:54

I love cupboard Tetris!

prettybird · 15/12/2020 08:42

Tesco last week had an offer on for NZ lamb at £6/kg at least it did in Glasgow so I bought two large legs. Had one on Sunday (so will be eating lamb all week Wink) and have frozen the other.

I've also bought a butternut squash (lasts well Wink) and will buy some more frozen veg and make sure I have plenty of carrots & onions etc this week.

I think I'll also buy some mince to freeze.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/12/2020 08:57

This is the week I need to get bnsquash, cabbage etc to keep in garage.

be careful - I did that yesterday and ended up burning my finger on some frozen fish. Wear some gloves 🥶
Ellie56 · 15/12/2020 10:16

Thermal gloves are a must for going through the freezer.

25% off wine still on at Tesco's until tomorrow. Have bought another stash of our favourite Italian wine this morning. Grin

Ow! Yes good suggestion, thank you!

MarshmallowManiac · 16/12/2020 11:27

Don't ever use gloves just tend to get frozen fingers, but due to all this good advice from you all will definitely invest in a pair, thank you.

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 16/12/2020 12:27

oven gloves work too Xmas Wink

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 16/12/2020 13:24

If you don't need fine motor skills they might!

I used lined gardening gloves last time!

OP posts:
BlackeyedSusan · 16/12/2020 13:42

Washing up gloves? Would they stick and rip though?

MarshmallowManiac · 16/12/2020 14:07

Good call Stockings, must try them. Have lined gardening ones too Fluffy bet they work well also, thanks guys.

Whenwillow · 16/12/2020 14:53

I'm 'ard, me. Did mine without gloves.
My cool box is ready to receive some winter veg now. Otherwise I'm done I think. I was reading Best for Britain's page on fb, and there was a post (link) about us being told not to stockpile.
Some of the comments about being stockpilers causing shortages were hair raising. The accusations of selfishness really upset me. I know I don't need to explain myself here, but why can people not get that gradual prepping is not the problem.
I went to bed in a foul mood and vowed never to read comments again.
I am happy to have this little corner of the net though Flowers

MarshmallowManiac · 16/12/2020 15:13

Saw a cool box on offer Whenwillow would you recommend?

MarshmallowManiac · 16/12/2020 15:15

Yes it is lovely here Whenwillow, I think they must all be shortsighted there in terms of the coming year and all it holds.

FinallyHere · 16/12/2020 15:19

New freezer installed in garage.

The kitchen freezer has been cleared out to the garage finally can see what we have.

Bulk Delivery tomorrow of frozen veg and that will be it for us.

Very glad to have this lovely corner of MN. Thank you preppers.

MarshmallowManiac · 16/12/2020 15:32

Loved when my new freezer came, you feel like you need a celebration don't you. Here's your celebration Flowers Cake Wine Brew Gin Gin Gin Glitterball Glitterball Glitterball

Whenwillow · 16/12/2020 15:57

I had forgotten that I had one marshmallow. It was one of these threads that prompted me to remember! So I don't know if I can recommend - but it was useful when sorting out freezer and I should think I'll perform better than a bucket wrt keeping by winter veg in the shed (more vermin proof and less damp, I'm thinking)
I intend to learn to love butternut squash!

Whenwillow · 16/12/2020 16:00

So exciting finally.
I would so love to have a place to put a chest freezer (assume that's what you have)
My mother in law has 2 big uprights and a chest freezer in her garage.
No envious, not one bit
Hers are mostly full of bread and a side of lamb.

FinallyHere · 16/12/2020 16:32

Thank you @MarshmallowManiac and @Whenwillow

It's an upright freezer. I have horrible childhood memories of rooting around in a chest freezer. (They would threaten to hold me by the ankles and let me find things - the terrors of being the youngest )

We don't have anything that won't fig in a tray so content ourselves with an uptight.

DH appears to be producing game stock to load up the delightfully empty drawers.

(I may have included some ice creme in tomorrow's delivery).

MarshmallowManiac · 16/12/2020 17:30

I wonder would it work if I sat it in the shed Whenwillow, oh love butternut squash, it is great roasted with olive oil and garlic.
Yes I have a chest freezer, it started it's life out in the shed, but as it got cooler it started to not work sometimes so I rehomed it into my daughter's old room and it now works fabulously. Oh what a waste of a beautiful freezer Whenwillow could you not use her space for other stuff when you go to visit her and pop stuff in on the quiet. Grin Grin

Love game Finally oooh icecream yum Smile
