Are there any Brexiters left?

... on here, or more or less anywhere on SM? The last entry on 'Leave Means Leave' is months old. Though I understand most sites are 'member only', now....

I am really quite surprised how they more or less evaporated on MN! They appear to be gone!

Why?

Was I an idiot to respond to so many, like, off the top of my head, mummmytime? Were they a bot??

The Arms collapsed. The victors are, well... gone!

Why is that?

Anyone who knows me will know I am a Remainer, but I patiently read, often 500 threads!- pros and cons, to 'get a handle' on the direction of travel.

However, now absolutely no one, bar Clav, is standing up for Leave.

I find the silence more chilling than the arguing.

Oh come on - don't act all innocent - I distinctly remember you posting a number of unpleasant things - "dogs and fleas" springs to mind - do I really need to put your name into advanced search?

jasjas1973 · 08/11/2020 11:53

This type of sneery post is exactly why Leavers won’t engage. MN is really not the place for balanced debate on Brexit

Probably because leavers cannot state specific advantages and when they have tried, they are wrapped up in the words "hopefully/possibly/perhaps"

Brexit is a leap of faith, it maybe a success but equally it could be an unmitigated disaster and no way back.

Remainers only have the status quo to shout about and thats boring, so gets ignored by leavers who want something exciting to inspire them.

bellinisurge · 08/11/2020 11:54

Lie down with dogs get up with fleas is a standard saying @jasjas1973 .

bellinisurge · 08/11/2020 11:54

I meant that for @Clavinova

bellinisurge · 08/11/2020 11:55

And I have no problem calling racists and Nazis "dogs".

ShowingOut · 08/11/2020 12:00

Well, having come on to this thread as it asked if there were any Brexiters left, I can now see why they don't bother to engage on Mumsnet. It's somewhat irritating being told, over and over again, that we are racist, support Trump, slavishly follow LeaveEU, etc etc.

I am/do none of those things, but some people are blinkered, I guess.

I'll be hiding this thread now, hello to my fellow Brexiters! Flowers and goodbye to the tedious people who can only think in stereotypes.

goldenharvest · 08/11/2020 12:02

Oh dear, the same Remainer stance that Leavers are slinking away regretting their vote.

Most of us are just getting on with life, avoiding Covid and waiting for Brexit to take affect.

It's done now, just stop the gaslighting of Leavers please.

goldenharvest · 08/11/2020 12:04

Brexit pales into insignificance compared to the economic disaster that Covid has caused. I'm surprised anyone really gives a shit about Brexit anymore!

Agree

Kljnmw3459 · 08/11/2020 12:08

No point in arguing about leave vs remain at this point. It's all about just grinning and bearing now.

Not the way you phrased it on several occasions - I've just checked - too unpleasant for me to quote.

You love quoting Clavinova . And yet you are shy here.

Clavinova · 08/11/2020 13:03

I prefer not to use that sort of language.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 08/11/2020 13:12

Some remainers would do well to heed the words of Joe Binden about unity. No point fighting yesterday’s battles wrt to Brexit, what will be will be.

If the Labour Party had united behind their leader like the democrats did with Biden, Britain wouldn’t be pissing in the wind right now. What will be will be. No point blaming leavers when so many factors put Britain on this course.

bellinisurge · 08/11/2020 13:12

I fucking swear. Deal with it. Or ignore. Or cut and paste some shit. Your choice.Wink

bellinisurge · 08/11/2020 13:13

I tried reaching out on here @GhostofFrankGrimes . I really tried.

Peregrina · 08/11/2020 13:16

On this thread there is only one mention of Trump and that did not come from a Remain supporter.

jasjas1973 · 08/11/2020 13:53

I don't blame leavers, many are good friends and that is how it stay.

The people spoke (at least under the terms of the referendum act) and wanted out of the EU but the course we then chose was down to politicians, May could have put country before party and chosen an EFTA style agreement with the EU.

It would have satisfied both camps and i suspect over time, perhaps even in a few years, that is where we will end up.

Toptotoeunicolour · 08/11/2020 15:57

On this thread there is only one mention of Trump and that did not come from a Remain supporter.

Obviously "one" is not evidence of a trend, or statistically relevant. Comments like this are just more evidence of how Remainers try to demean Leavers. No wonder you didn't turn it around when there was still a chance that you could.
And before some screams "own your shit", who do you think is not "owning their shit", either in real life or on this board? People are just sitting quietly waiting for the next developments, living their lives, trying to succeed on their own merits rather than blaming the government for everything.

Miljea · 08/11/2020 16:06

BBC: road hauliers predicting disaster

This is the sort of thing that staggers me.

We knew this is what would happen on June 22nd 2016; yet here we are.

MN is really not the place for balanced debate on Brexit.

Where is then?
Please suggest somewhere for informed, fact based, pro Brexit debate. Genuine question, I've been looking for years for somewhere for pro Brexit view point that wasn't full of racists. And before you say it, I know, not all leavers blar, blar, blar. It's just that racists find their way in to pro Brexit sites and take over. Even Nigel Farage abandoned UKIP saying it was too full of racists. Nigel fucking Farage finding somewhere too racist!!!

KenDodd · 08/11/2020 17:46

@goldenharvest
Oh dear, the same Remainer stance that Leavers are slinking away regretting their vote.

I don't think that. I don't think that Leave voters will change their minds and I'm sure they'd vote the same again.
There was some polling a couple of years ago by YouGov showing that most Tory Leave voters would rather see the break up of the UK, adult children losing their livelihoods and a return to violence in NI than not have Brexit. I now Brexit is the most important thing for them. I do admit that I don't understand why that's the case but absolutely accept that it is the case, that's very shown very, very clearly over the last four years. Brexit could and would have been stopped if Leave voters had changed their minds, they didn't, they voted repeatedly (by voting Tory) and determinedly for Brexit. Also the 'not knowing what you voted for' I think this was actually true in 2016, NI for example got very little attention before the referendum. But it became very clear in the years after that as Brexit came into focus, you still absolutely wanted it and were determined to get it.

KenDodd · 08/11/2020 17:55

@MellowBird85
And that was a genuine question about a pro Brexit (or even neutral) site. I really would be grateful if you could recommend one.

willloman · 08/11/2020 18:00

Yeah, how will we exit EU when we can barely get out front door at the moment? I for one am relieved not have to deal with unnecessary agro and am currently digging bigger hole to bury (someone's) head in! I'm also right tired of all those strident American voices covering the recent elections. Yay to the end of all that. Can someone please (Auntie Beeb)schedule some soothing Agatha Christie or Line of Duty or something to occupy this long Winter lockdown?

FAKE NEWS ALERT. Fact checked!

I for one know of no one who voted leave, and have never seen it on SM, that we would want any of those things.

The actual poll said 54% of Conservative party members not voters. There are approximately 200,000 party members so around 100,000 expressed this point of view. A tiny fraction of our 60m population.

And the revulsion at Jeremy Corbyn had a massive influence on the Tory vote. But carry on with your stupid campaign.
