Are there any Brexiters left?

... on here, or more or less anywhere on SM? The last entry on 'Leave Means Leave' is months old. Though I understand most sites are 'member only', now....

I am really quite surprised how they more or less evaporated on MN! They appear to be gone!

Why?

Was I an idiot to respond to so many, like, off the top of my head, mummmytime? Were they a bot??

The Arms collapsed. The victors are, well... gone!

Why is that?

Anyone who knows me will know I am a Remainer, but I patiently read, often 500 threads!- pros and cons, to 'get a handle' on the direction of travel.

However, now absolutely no one, bar Clav, is standing up for Leave.

I find the silence more chilling than the arguing.

Brexiters were a protest movement, rather than a political movement. They had little interest in what happened the UK after Brexit. They are certainly not interested in owning the consequences.

Farage has applied to change the Brexit Party's name to Reform UK and are now focusing on the 'evils' of masks and lockdown.

KooKooKachu · 02/11/2020 23:27

Ah I haven't seen those threads pingu

frosted232 · 02/11/2020 23:32

I voted leave. Never came on the Brexit boards but I can't understand why anyone would from either side now because it's over, time to move on.

ineedaholidaynow · 02/11/2020 23:40

I wonder how many people think Boris will do a good job with Brexit seeing what an absolute pigs ear he has made of COVID, with blunder and bluster, u-turns etc. My DM used to worship the ground Boris walked on, believed everything he said about Brexit and voted Leave. Now she thinks he is an idiot. We don't talk about Brexit as we agreed to disagree on it, and at the moment we are just about muddling through coping with COVID as she is vulnerable. But I do wonder whether she still has great faith in him with respect to Brexit.

Apileofballyhoo · 02/11/2020 23:45

It's handy for them that Covid can be blamed for the job losses and recession and food shortages and what not.

lakeswimmer · 02/11/2020 23:45

Many of those posters have moved away from MN because of the abuse. Some people on here find it unacceptable that others have different opinions to them.

bellinisurge · 03/11/2020 07:56

The Brexit Arms closed after they got bollocked (in a Mumsnetty way) for being to people including me. I was called a rat that needed cleaning out. What a lovely bunch.

bellinisurge · 03/11/2020 07:58

I had actually made attempts to bridge the divide but the Arms clientele needed to feel great by lashing out.
My contempt for them knows no limit.

ShowingOut · 03/11/2020 08:00

I'm a Brexiteer. I firmly believe there will be a Deal.

AMA!

bellinisurge · 03/11/2020 08:01

Why will that deal be better than the deal we had?

ShowingOut · 03/11/2020 08:03

@bellinisurge

Why will that deal be better than the deal we had?
I think so, in overall terms of having left the EU, ie giving us more control.

For instance, we will now be able to work on banning live animal exports, which the EU forbids changing. Because of exports to Turkey and other similar countries, I believe.

Dustysilkflowers · 03/11/2020 08:09

There are loads of leavers however most are busy with trying to deal with Covid.

We’re leaving. No point in engaging with goady posts.

Beni1993 · 03/11/2020 08:14

I think that coronavirus has been a big distraction from Brexit. I'm a remainer (my DP and his family are from an Eastern European country) and so we were quite upset and worried about what was going to happen. But to be honest with all of the coronavirus stuff I almost forgot Brexit was a thing!!

AlexaShutUp · 03/11/2020 08:18

I imagine that Boris is mightily relieved that Covid came along as it will be the perfect scapegoat for the economic consequences of Brexit. He'll be able to pretend that the no-deal exit we're heading for would have led us into the sunlit uplands if only there hadn't been a pandemic so inconveniently getting in the way.

The only Brexit voters I know seem to think that Brexit is all done and dusted now - it's yesterday's news as far as they're concerned. I've actually heard people say that it happened and it was no big deal, it was all just scaremongering...so presumably a lot of them don't realise that we haven't felt the impact of it yet?

ForeverBubblegum · 03/11/2020 08:36

Just a weird thought. If we'd had a competent government who had delt with covid, and avoided/ mitigated against a second wave, then one disaster wouldn't have run into the other.

It's very convenient how eat out to help out etc. has lead to such a good cover ...

KenDodd · 03/11/2020 08:54

It's handy for them that Covid can be blamed for the job losses and recession and food shortages and what not.

Only if we're fool enough to let them though. I mean how can covid be blamed if businesses move out of the UK?

KaptainKaveman · 03/11/2020 09:00

Speaking of Brexiteers, we haven't heard much from Marc Francois recently have we? does anyone know why that is? for someone so vocal and prone to ripping up bits of paper on live TV because he thinks it makes him look strong he's gone to ground hasn't he? anyone would think he has criminal charges pending Wink.

Well you all seem to know what all Brexiteers think, so just chat among yourselves Grin

MrsMigginsMate · 03/11/2020 09:28

@yellowspanner

I am one of the Brexit posters but I have name changed a while ago. I stopped coming on these threads because of all of the nasty name calling, bullying and snide remarks. I was called a knuckle dragging racists amongst others. I notice some of the worst ie bea**ehind and 1tisleC... are no longer posting. But several of the nasty bullies are still here. Anyway, Brexit is done. We are out. I know we still have the trade deal to complete but if Macron continues to insist that the fish in UK waters are his then we will leave with no deal. I'm OK with that. The main thing is we are out of the EU. And Boris has a large majority. Many of the other Alms contingent are around too. We love watching you all complain.
I disagree with your politics but I was open minded and willing to listen up until "we love watching you all complain". How childish and completely uncalled for in a sensible thread like this.
ineedaholidaynow · 03/11/2020 09:29

So what do you think the deal will be @ShowingOut and apart from banning live exports what benefits do you think there will be? And do you think Boris will do the best for us, as he hasn't exactly shown us how competent he can be in the last few months?

KenDodd · 03/11/2020 10:43

I know someone who voted Leave because they wanted live animals exports banned. This was really they only thing that mattered to her, she knew about all the negatives but cared about this issue more. She also knew Leave wasn't a guarantee this would happen. I don't agree but I do respect her opinion. It wasn't based on lies, she didn't disparage experts, or think she knew better and her vote wasn't based on racism. She knew Brexit would be bad for the humans but thought we'd cope and suffer less with whatever came than the animals being transported do. Leave was their best chance as she saw it.

KenDodd · 03/11/2020 10:46

Oh and I hope she gets what she wants. At least that'll be one positive although I don't think she'd considered or weighed up and human deaths in Ireland if Brexit stirred up the troubles. I suspect she'd still be on the animals side though.

Caroncanta · 03/11/2020 10:50

I voted remain, but I've been shocked at the amount of aggression towards leave voters for exercising their democratic right, particularly after the leave vote won. I'm not surprised they don't post on here anymore, there's little point. It's over and we're out.

DuncinToffee · 03/11/2020 11:01

I always saw the brexit arms as an extension of the loud brexiteers you see on sm, all about emojis, flags and namecalling and not much else.

I'd like to think that most leave voters wouldn't want to be associated with them.
