Westminstenders: Where are we now?

Twenty thousand people
Cross Bösebrücke
Fingers are crossed
Just in case
Walking the dead

Where are we now, where are we now?
The moment you know, you know, you know

Just that.

Don't really want to reflect more than that right now.

FWIW I am now getting daily emails from Donald Trump and Eric Trump and Mike Pence.
(I signed up on a spare email as a joke a while back)
They are worried.
GOOD.

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/06/2020 14:40

Thanks Red

dontcallmelen · 13/06/2020 17:02

Beautiful flowers len

It's ds1s bdsy today do I've been scoffing food and spending time in the sun (!) With various bubbles of family members :)

Do any of our American friends know if the waiver that Trumpy is asking people to sign will put off any of his supporters from attending?

Horrible scenes today in London...people doing the nazi salute. Awful.

Pretty depressed again.

Survey done, cheers!

dontcallmelen · 13/06/2020 17:13

yoikes enjoy your Ds birthday & scoffing cake 🍰yy scenes in London horribly depressing, just sums up the awfulness that is surrounding us with more yet to come I fear if no deal comes to fruition.
SoS great news for dgd, have a fabulous time💐

yoikes · 13/06/2020 17:18

Thank you :)
He doesn't like cake (!) So I made 17 scones in honour of his 17 years :)
Take away pizza later 🍕

I think we might have a family film night and ignore the real world for about longer:(

InMySpareTime · 13/06/2020 17:29

@yoikes I did the same for DD's 16th:

HoneysuckIejasmine · 13/06/2020 17:32

I can't see that DGR, what's a summary? Headline suggest it's an attack on the government but the byline is critical is SAGE advisors, i.e. the scientists?

midwestsummer · 13/06/2020 17:37

Do any of our American friends know if the waiver that Trumpy is asking people to sign will put off any of his supporters from attending?

As I mentioned I don't think it will. My super woke Pilates studio has them.
Waivers are an everyday part of life here.

The EU parliament is reinforcing its red lines. Stick to the political declaration you've already signed up to Mr Johnston or jog on.

Not ignoring you - I posted what I can, from my FB feed. I don't have a sub either, otherwise I could say more. (It's by Toby Young thought, so make of that what you will ...)

Meantime, there's a virtual rally Monday 7pm "No To No Deal", if anyone's interested. I have no idea how it works, just "puttin' it out there" (but not a word to the wife Grin)

Peregrina · 13/06/2020 18:04

What can you say about the protests? We Remainers can put a million people on the streets and have no arrests.

I don't know how many right wing thugs there were protesting today, but it only needs two before the fists start flying.

And yes Boris Johnson, you have helped to unleash this with your stupid tweets, and you are supposed to be the Prime Minister, so it's for you to sort out.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 13/06/2020 18:10

The government state in strong terms their disgust for the consequences of their own actions. Hmm

Thanks DGR. I'm finding myself wishing I had subscriptions all over the shop these days.

ListeningQuietly · 13/06/2020 18:17

Peregrina
The folks from BBB were there today.
Their mental gymnastics about squaring up to the police are surreal.

The BLM gathering in St Albans looks MUCH more life affirming.

Jason118 · 13/06/2020 18:36

We put a million on the street with no trouble - and no successful outcome. Maybe that tells us something.

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 13/06/2020 18:39

midwestsummer · 13/06/2020 19:01

Marches in the UK have proved to be spectacularly useless in the last couple of decades.

Peregrina · 13/06/2020 19:13

Maybe that tells us something.

That wasn't my point. Or are you saying we should have resorted to violence to get our way? So what exactly are the right wing thugs doing Nazi salutes by Churchill's statue going to achieve?

I am still glad I protested. In years to come I want to be able to look my grandchildren in the eye and tell them that I didn't like the way things were going, and did stand up to be counted.

Whereas, an awful lot of people who either did nothing, or fully supported the way things are now going, will busily rewrite their personal histories in the years to come, as did those English supporters of Hitler.

Peregrina · 13/06/2020 19:18

We put a million on the street with no trouble - and no successful outcome.

We might have had one, if we'd not had that damn stupid election, for which all Opposition parties should hang their heads in shame for allowing it to happen. I would have let Johnson sweat it out.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/06/2020 19:40

Thanks again, red 💐

"I know if I were running a company in the EU, I would do my level best (egged on by over cautious compliance officers) to remove 3rd countries from my supply chain."

DG Companies here have been removing UK firms from their supply chain since 2017.
There's not much the UK produces that can't be obtained elsewhere

Unlike e.g. the majority of fresh produce consumed in the UK, which (Raab discovered) is imported via Dover from the EU

I seem to remember some of that lot hanging around the edges of the anti-Brexit marches - usually ending up in that pub near Trafalgar Square.
I've nothing to say, really. It's gone much as we thought it would. I'm immensely pleased BLM and left/anti-fascist people kept away.

ListeningQuietly · 13/06/2020 20:34

BigChoc
As I said on the last thread
letting the lorries into the UK without checks
is pointless unless they can get a backload
that will work with the delays
and you are utterly right that the backloads will not be stuff that has to be UK sourced

BigChocFrenzy · 13/06/2020 20:34

Meanwhile in China - yum, COVID salmon
BJ's next FTA ....

https://www.globaltimes.cn/content/1191462.shtml

Major supermarkets in Beijing including Carrefour and Wumart stopped selling salmon on Saturday
after the cutting boards of wholesalers in Beijing’s Xinfadi Market detected the novel coronavirus,
sparking concern that salmon could be contaminated with the deadly virus, despite virologists saying that the coronavirus can’t be transmitted from fish to humans.

When Global Times reporters visited supermarkets in the capital city on Saturday, they found no salmon for sale and many seafood stalls were closed.
Local customers appeared hesitant to buy salmon, meat and other seafood.
