Saying goodbye to the EU

Am listening to Radio Five Live and one of the topics is what would you say in your goodbye to the EU?

Mine would be - relived to an EU country passport holder and remain as a supporter of the EU. Hoping that the UK will rejoin.

Mine would be you let us down by letting us get away with the idea that you didn't celebrate our differences. Or you just didn't celebrate them enough. No one wants to be a homogeneous lump.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 28/01/2020 14:53

Also relieved to be an EU passport holder. Not bothered about UK getting back I wouldnt want the EU to have to endure the whinging and petulance again.

eurochick · 28/01/2020 15:06

I'm sorry. My countrymen are dicks.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/01/2020 17:20

Please remember that not all of us wanted to leave.

CendrillonSings · 28/01/2020 17:27

“See EU, wouldn’t want to be EU”?

PermanentTemporary · 28/01/2020 17:31

I'm British; I'm going to get pissed. And read the long, long, long list of wars in Europe. And swear, and apologise to all my forebears who fought in those wars.

SilverySurfer · 28/01/2020 17:34

Good riddance.

HateIsNotGood · 28/01/2020 17:35

Yes it is a possibility that the UK leaving the EU might mean "saying goodbye to the EU". The whole idea worked for a while - it's unlikely that western Europe will do war/kill each other again - well hopefully not for a few 'generations'/decades.

Something new should come from this - new 'alliances' - it is up to us how these new structures are formed. New priorities such as The Environment over Profit - as the Young advise us.

And our Elders advise us that War is never the answer and Intolerance of Others is Wrong.

We must be the best advised generation that there has ever been - I can't believe that we could be described as being the most stupid too.

SpecLosers · 28/01/2020 17:36

I'd say I am no longer a Remainer, but a hopeful Rejoiner!

Kind of a sad day for UK, no matter what your views are. It is the end of an era one way or another. I hope it works out for OUR benefit, not just the elites. We shall see.

Au Revoir.

12345ct · 28/01/2020 17:39

Goodbye EU you are a dinosaur from the past that doesn't fit with the new world. I hope there is something better put into place that can come from this. Change is necessary to move forward for all EU countries. Hopefully a new Europe.

Spinrek · 28/01/2020 17:40

That I'm glad we can now wash the EUrine out of our laws, and start doing things our way.

LochJessMonster · 28/01/2020 17:45

I’m happy at the direction this thread has taken
“See EU, wouldn’t want to be EU” Grin

AuldAlliance · 28/01/2020 17:48

I won't be saying goodbye to the EU, as I acquired an EU nationality last month which will allow me to remain in the country I've lived in for years, work here, move to other EU countries if I wish, etc.
I'll raise a glass to the U-but-not-for-long-K on Friday and wish everyone well.

lljkk · 28/01/2020 18:14

Thanks for 45+ years of productive partnership.

jasjas1973 · 28/01/2020 18:18

I am not saying Goodbye at all!
We are still part of the european continent, so hopefully, this a blip in history, a country like the UK should be at the heart of Europe, driving its future and being part of its many cultures.

Instead we are cutting ourselves off and sailing in a yet unknown direction.
So, @12345ct whatever form europe evolves into, we will have no say or be part of that, which is history repeating itself, we weren't part of the original EC either.

ListeningQuietly · 28/01/2020 18:23

"I'll be back" Grin
or
a bientot

SpecLosers · 28/01/2020 18:36

UK will be fkd. But they don't know it yet.

But maybe Johnson will slip in a BRINO. Who the heck would notice as long as his slogan worked for him lol.

yellowallpaper · 28/01/2020 18:51

We're not saying goodbye. We're just having a different and hopefully, mutually beneficial relationship with each other. Just not all on eu terms but a more equal one.

malylis · 28/01/2020 18:54

Wondering which bit of the new world the EU doesn't fit into.

Its very much the new world

HettyStThomas · 28/01/2020 18:57

Thank you EU for all of the schemes you have funded in my school and the opportunities you have given my students. I am so sorry that the schemes will no longer be funded and my future students will not benefit.

MaxNormal · 28/01/2020 19:17

I'll be saying, see you soon! We're moving to an EU country.

ICouldHaveBeenAContender · 28/01/2020 19:45

I'd say au revoir, not goodbye. And I'd quote Alyn Smith, and ask the EU to leave a light on.
And they will! (Love EU!)

TheGreatWave · 28/01/2020 20:08

It's not you, it's me. Please find it in your heart to forgive me.

And now leave me alone to enjoy my pound of bendy bananas, paid with our new 10 shilling coins.

pointythings · 29/01/2020 08:48

Dear EU, it won't be long before the three of us come home.

TeddyIsaHe · 29/01/2020 08:54

Thank fuck I’m still an EU member. And hope you enjoy watching the UK crash and burn, we deserve it!
