Westminstenders: Super Saturday

Parliament sits on a Saturday for the first time since the Falklands.

A deal has been reached with the EU. Its utterly shite and worse for the UK than May's deal. It even leaves no deal as an option after transition.

The DUP don't like it. They got predictably shafted.

Tomorrow is a debate and vote on the deal. Amendments are key, in particular the Letwin amendment which seeks to close a loophole in the Benn Act and stop the Deal being adopted tomorrow, instead forcing the ultimate decision over the deal to a later date and forcing an extension.

Which the EU may or may not agree to.

There is also talk of forcing another ref via amendments but this, unlike the Letwin amendment is unlikely to pass.

The vote tomorrow looks to be very tight. The Letwin amendment passes looks likely to make Johnson fail to have the numbers. However there is talk that enough Labour MPs have decided to back the deal.

There is also a big anti Brexit march in London tomorrow (which runs the risk of having problems with the Extinction Rebellion ban). Good luck to everyone going tomorrow.

See you on the other side (which might now be on this thread!!)

Thanks, red 💐

The DUPes should have read their history ...

Edward Carson, 1921:

"What a fool I was. I was only a puppet, and so was Ulster, and so was Ireland,
in the political game that was to get the Conservative Party into power."

Most recent cat picture (struggling to keep up Wink)

Glad that I have a part share in a red toothbrush matching in London tomorrow Grin

Suspect I'll be glued to the TV tomorrow. It's going to be too close to call. The Letwin amendment is going to be interesting.

But there again, "may you live in interesting times" is a Chinese curse Sad

The labour movement stands united in opposing Boris Johnson's sell out Brexit deal.

This deal is a blatant attempt to dismantle our hard won workers' rights, consumer protections and environmental standards.

Tomorrow, we'll come together to reject it.

PanemEtCircenses · 18/10/2019 23:35

They stand united Hmm So he’s going to remove the whip from Labour MP’s who vote for it, is he? (Won’t hold my breath.)

yolofish · 18/10/2019 23:39

Permanently (trying to) Maintain Ksanity... I know that doesnt work, but then neither does anything else really at the moment!

Good luck to all the marchers tomorrow, may your voices be heard and may you all be safe.

thecatfromjapan · 18/10/2019 23:41

No.

The whip won't be removed.

There's been an explanation given by Owen Jones ('might make rebellion bigger ... not been removed in blah years').

Personally, I think it sucks.

This is a major betrayal of everything Labour stands for.

For heaven's sake, it's enabling a Far Right counter-revolution.

And here in London it's going to cost us votes. Without trying, I can think of one marginal we can wave goodbye to.

So I think they really need the whip removed.

And as for making the rebellion bigger? Well, Johnson's removal of the whip is probably what has endured most of the 21 are back on board with this vote now - and I suspect it's deterred others.

🤷‍♀️

Anyway, I'm angry and very bitter.

Having said that, Labour do appear to be trying hard tonight. 🤷‍♀️

thecatfromjapan · 18/10/2019 23:43

You know, all that, 'People never talk about Brexit on the doorstep' stuff is nonsense.

Certainly here that is exactly what people talk about.

And - here for sure - they are very, very angry.

PanemEtCircenses · 18/10/2019 23:50

There's been an explanation given by Owen Jones

He’s blocked me so I no longer have to suffer his mansplanations (thank God).

I agree with you, cat - betrayal of everything Labour stand for.

ArseDarkly · 18/10/2019 23:57

I support Labour and still admire Jeremy Corbyn despite the constant lambasting from all sides. Those Labour mp's voting with the government have lost their reason and morals to blind acceptance of a fake principle. I feel really ashamed for them

RedToothBrush · 19/10/2019 00:05

Breaking: senior loyalist source tonight says discussions between loyalists/unionists of all backgrounds taken place in past 24 hours - “civil disobedience on a large scale has been discussed, as well as a large rally” to resist Brexit deal. More developments expected next week

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/10/2019 00:05

It's all just shit.

thecatfromjapan · 19/10/2019 00:11

Well. That's utterly grim.

And entirely expected.

motherofdoodles · 19/10/2019 00:13

Couldn't get the cat on his own. I've analysed enough this evening and am still going around in circles (in NI here) see you in the morning
