I don't really feel qualified to start a Westminstenders thread but we need a new one....

Junker says the EU will not grant any further extension. Does that mean the Benn Act is now worth nothing?

It really is now this deal or no deal.

IDontBelieveYou · 17/10/2019 14:26

Or revoke

CrunchyCarrot · 17/10/2019 14:27

Much as I dislike this deal, it is better than No Deal. Most MPs know this, they really should hold their noses and support it. They are hoping for a GE and a party change and/or a PV that will support Remain. It's a very, very long shot and many will be angry that the process has been delayed yet again, in fact I suspect a Tory majority if we go to a GE with this deal having been voted down in Parliament. So very reluctantly, this deal should be supported, I feel.

ImNotYourGranny · 17/10/2019 14:27

My mum voted leave because she saw a report about some areas of London having white minorities. And because Angela Merkel and David Cameron are lizard people in human form. I wonder how BoJo's plan meets her brexit expectations.

A - whilst its different to TMs offering, its still a shit show and a poor deal for NI.
Reading what's on the table: VAT rates that are imposed upon them, upfront levies that need to be refunded on review, EU officials that can overturn a UK border official's decision...I wouldn't view that as a deal I could vote for

dontcallmelen · 17/10/2019 14:29

Thank you Mship & everyone else PMK with flowers as cat free zone here nothing to add as usual, but trying hard to understand what is happening.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 17/10/2019 14:29

Thanks flouncy!

bellinisurge · 17/10/2019 14:30

There will be some slightly dark entertainment on offer watching the Brexiteers wrestle with the fact that this is basically the WA.

Beveren · 17/10/2019 14:30

I really wish Johnson or Gove could explain what precisely there is in the deal that would put us in a better position than we are in now.

Grinchly · 17/10/2019 14:32

PMK Thanks all. Was getting concerned abput red. Glad she's back ! Smile

Indeed dreichsky

The lovely Alyn Smith describes how he was talking about the two referendums (Indyref and EU Referendum with a UKIP MP (he said not the brightest so I presume he means the odious David Coburn Wink so someone else must have said it to him Wink) and his answer was "You wrote it down which is why you lost” Hmm

Says it all really Angry

Juncker tells me there ‘must be no prolongation- it has to happen now’ - has Johnson persuaded EU to say it’s genuinely this deal or no deal - no delay?

Hester54 · 17/10/2019 14:35

I for one really hope that on Saturday, Parliament can get their act together and agree on a way forward,
Accept the deal,
Leave on no deal,
Revoke,
All I can ask is they do there bit and then call a GE and let’s go from there, being on this mouse wheel is no good for anybody

tobee · 17/10/2019 14:36

Am I right in thinking this is the worst possible outcome? Sad

prettybird · 17/10/2019 14:37

Juncker apparently said it on the red carpet going into the EUCO.

But as president of the European Commission, it's not his decision to make Confused

BeerandBiscuits · 17/10/2019 14:37

Where has Junker said that? Fake noos guys...

I heard and saw him say it about 15 mins ago, on BBC news channel.
Presumably he was speaking for himself, rather than announcing an EU council decision.

tobee · 17/10/2019 14:37

Assuming the Benn Act got around no deal?

bellinisurge · 17/10/2019 14:38

I agree @prettybird , it's not his decision to make. But, the Quitlings can't say there's a better deal available any more than anyone else can at this point.

motherofdoodles · 17/10/2019 14:39

Pmk

tobee · 17/10/2019 14:39

Plus how much have the EU caved?

Hester54 · 17/10/2019 14:40

dreichsky In another Scottish fee, would you 100% know what you were voting for ?
What currency would you use,
Border issues,
Visas for Scottish people working and living in England and vice versa,
Etc, etc

bellinisurge · 17/10/2019 14:40

I heard him say it too. It sounded first like Prorogation which has, for us Brits, a particular meaning. But the last time he said it , it was clearly ProLONGation.
Is that even a word?
