I don't really feel qualified to start a Westminstenders thread but we need a new one....

E isn’t on the vote paper, we have to deal with what we have

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 17/10/2019 14:08

This shit show wasn't on the voting paper either.

TrickOrTreaty · 17/10/2019 14:09

A fortnight Shock

Dh has just pointed out that if the DUP won't vote for this, then Hoey, DUP in all but name, won't vote for it either.

So that's one less potential rebel. Grin

TheElementsSong · 17/10/2019 14:11

This shit show wasn't on the voting paper either.

Exactly!

BeerandBiscuits · 17/10/2019 14:11

Great, there's a deal Grin.
Have heard a rumour that Johnson will ask the EU to say they won't allow a further extension. So it'll be this deal or no deal.

BlackeyedGruesome · 17/10/2019 14:11

Another tense few days waiting to see what they vote for.

Withdrawal Agreement + Political Declaration (non-binding) = 91 pages. Commons will sit on Saturday for less than five hours.
When I was in local govt, decisions on grass cutting would have more detail attached and more scrutiny than this. Ludicrous.

Hester54 · 17/10/2019 14:12

BercowsFlyingFlamingo No just leave or Remain in the EU was,
So it seems a lot of people are unwilling to respect the result and move forward,

TheElementsSong You can blame numerous MPs for not respecting democracy

BlackeyedGruesome · 17/10/2019 14:14

People are allowed to change their minds. Find out if the people still want to leave. Plenty don't. It is not harmful to democracy to vote on the deals on offer.

Prepare for the usual tedious deluge of pro leave posters people! Out of the woodwork they come! Yawn. 💤

Peregrina · 17/10/2019 14:18

D - Isn't an option. The question was whether you left or remained. Not whether you crashed out of the EU with a deal or without.

Now, if May had won her majority which was on a 'hard Brexit' ticket, then that would have been the democratic will of the people; but she didn't win and it wasn't the will of the people.

TheElementsSong · 17/10/2019 14:18

Hest I do not understand your non sequitur.

Ellie56 · 17/10/2019 14:19

So I wonder what was agreed between EU and all those Opposition MPs who were seen in Brussels the other day?

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 17/10/2019 14:19

I don't want to leave however if we do then I want a deal that doesn't fuck anyone over.

Just watching fart-fogg talking about the golden age and want to slap him with a wet kipper.

Driedlimes · 17/10/2019 14:21

@Hester54
The ref 'result' has been debated to death. No one agreed on the form of Brexit & a whole range of options could have 'delivered' the result.

A real leader might have thought, 3 years ago, to reunite the country by advocating a Norway plus deal on the basis it was a compromise on a close vote & dealt with concerns about the sovereignty of parliament.

It's perfectly legitimate to reject what is quite clearly an attempt by the hard right to achieve deregulation. Turkeys really did vote for Christmas.

prettybird · 17/10/2019 14:21

Just having a argument discussion with ds on WhatsApp about why a referendum can't be held in 5 weeks' time (his naive belief is that it can legislated for in a week and held a month later, so as not to give time to the likes of Cambridge Analytica to abuse it). When I asked him what the question should be, he said "Brexit or No Brexit" which then led to me pointing for out did that mean "The Deal" (which many Brexiters don't like) or Revoke....

Peregrina · 17/10/2019 14:23

When I was in local govt, decisions on grass cutting would have more detail attached and more scrutiny than this. Ludicrous.

Always the way though, and not just in the public sector. £100 for new bike stands? Hours of debate. Million £ redevelopment project? Goes through on the nod.

Peregrina · 17/10/2019 14:24

Yep - Rees-Mogg and the DUP for starters.

A and E.
Because why would I support anything that will make the country poorer and less influential while also straining the GFA and putting the Union at risk? Particularly from a non binding, corruptly run campaign where people were voting for a pig in a poke.

If the public supported a WA in a ref knowing what they were voting for I would accept that. I would also fully commit to Scottish independence on the grounds that England had picked a path for the UK that I see as damaging. But at least people would know what they were voting for.
