Just dawned on me that, at the moment, politics in Britain seem even more edgy then NI? Or is it just that we are inured to one and surprised by the other.

When I was last in Northern Ireland, a month ago, I watched with my mum the NI version of Question Time. It's dire, but I did say to my mum it wasn't as bad as the UK version.

I believe these elections could see the beginning of the break up of the Union. Interesting times.

Eastwood gone. So, onto next distribution. The second MEP will be elected now. Maybe 3rd deemed elected?

SwedishEdith · 27/05/2019 17:32

tobee

Results all on here.

So SDLP Eastwood is eliminated. Votes surely to transfer to Sinn Fein and Alliance.

DUP, Alliance and Sinn Fein. Northern Ireland results.

Cailleach1 · 27/05/2019 17:34

Very strange times, indeed.

NoWordForFluffy · 27/05/2019 17:35

Its two thirds of 2016 Leave voters who voted in the EU Elections.

Now that does make sense.

Does make you wonder if the other third had a collective bang on the head though.

DGRossetti · 27/05/2019 17:38

But this ISN'T true of the Liberal Democrats - its seems to be a more serious and long term head ache for the Conservatives and Labour. (And I'll bet this is a particularly London based issue)

LibDems have always been more of a threat to Tories than Labour. After all they were one the same party.

However as the now never-mentioned floating voter, I don't feel beholden to any party, so LDs are as good as any other as far as I'm concerned.

I'm wondering if there is something in my joshing about "comparetheparty.com" when it comes to a younger electorate less bound by tradition and more used to choice in life ? Is it possible that the effects of demographics are starting to introduce a much less coherent youger vote from a generation that can choose 10 different types of takeaway to be delivered in less than an hour ????

Cailleach1 · 27/05/2019 17:39

It is a watershed moment. Alliance breakthrough. The middle is making news in NI, whereas the extremes are trying to shake Britain. Clumsily put, but you get the gist.

MelanieCheeks · 27/05/2019 17:40

I'm whooping with delight at the NI results! 3 female MEPs, 2 of them Remainers!

placemats · 27/05/2019 17:44

It could be a unifying and defining moment for NI. About time.

Elaine Dodds is on a par with Andrea Leadsome. A great result nonetheless.

Quintella · 27/05/2019 17:45

Well done, NI Smile

every cloud and all that ?

Diane not Elaine!

woman19 · 27/05/2019 17:47

Smile Star Halo NI

HazardGhost · 27/05/2019 17:47

buffy

That's horrible! And very demoralizing for you when your putting effort in to help as much as you can. People can be such arseholes.

DGRossetti · 27/05/2019 17:48

Anyone read Will Selfs "The Quantity Theory of Insanity" ?

I wonder if there's an equivalent "Quantity theory of extremism" ? Meaning there's only so much to go around, so when it becomes concentrated in one place, it weakens in another ?

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 27/05/2019 17:56

red thanks so much for that Lord Ashcroft data. Absolutely fascinating.

Anyone read Will Selfs "The Quantity Theory of Insanity I have an irrational hatred of Will Self. Sorry that’s probably not at all relevant.
The only time I’ve come close to liking Will Self was when he “debated” Mark Francois. In my very biased opinion they both looked like nobs - Francois was obviously the far far far bigger knob.

woman19 · 27/05/2019 18:00

Liberal Democrat 17% + Labour 21% + Green 7% = 45%

  • SDLP +SNP+ SF +PC^

Imagine getting together and sorting this thing out. Pronto
Grass roots groups have been doing so for 3 years now.
Revoke and rebuild this place.
And say sorry to EU27 and mean it.

  • Learn how to prevent this ever happening again.......
placemats · 27/05/2019 18:07

Naomi Long likely now to take the second seat on the back of the SDLP transfers. Quite the moment for her. Well done!

bellinisurge · 27/05/2019 18:10

If only two thirds of Brexshit Party actually want No Deal then why did that third vote for those fuckers?
It's time to grow the fuck up.

NoWordForFluffy · 27/05/2019 18:12

Exactly bellini. They either voted remain or didn't vote in the referendum too. Non-ref voters I can understand as they're now having their say, but people who voted remain? Baffling.

mathanxiety · 27/05/2019 18:26

As I said yesterday, Hitler promoted breastfeeding, good wholesome food and regular outdoor exercise and fitness.

This was part of his vision of creating a master race, and in order to have a well fed and fit cohort of young men ready for military action.

mathanxiety · 27/05/2019 18:27

Not to mention young women ready to breed the next generation of aryan ubermenschen.

derxa · 27/05/2019 18:31

And say sorry to EU27 and mean it. Really Confused

woman19 · 27/05/2019 18:35

Yes, really Derxa. Same process was part of the healing in post apartheid SA and in the NI peace process. Why not?
