Westminstenders: 1001 Ways to wait for EUCO - Sprouts, Nits and Brexit

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 22:36

Not much more to say other than, all we can do is wait to hear our fate.

Which seems to lie in the hands of Macron.

I think these tweet sums a lot of it up from a couple of jaded soft leavers

Iain Martin @ iainmartin1
This terrible farce in Brussels tonight is like being British during the eurovision song contest. British entrant awaits fate, watching humiliating results come in, trying to smile for the audience back home.

George Trefgarne @georgetrefgarne
To be honest I think Buck’s Fizz and Cheryl thingummy would have made a better job of it

My advice: Don't wait up!

Pippa Crerar @pippacrerar
EU source on Macron: "He is in a bit of a schizophrenic situation - (his) domestic audience demands that he is tough on Britain for historic reasons. On the other hand, France is among the most-hit in any no-deal Brexit. It will take hours before we pull him down from his tree."

So Macron may end up being the one who gets the UK what it wants but is doing it to be tough on us. I'm not sure I understand EU politics.

Who has funded 'the brexit party' ; the NF one?

TalkinPaece · 12/04/2019 20:01

Pesty
Labour are a leave party
I disagree
My Labour MP is strongly pro Europe.
My constituency voted to leave by a fraction.
It has flipped between Tory and Labour several times
My MP represents it well.

Corbyn / McDonnell advised by Milne are strongly pro Leave
but the rest of the party is not

MockerstheFeManist · 12/04/2019 20:06

Breaking News:

Boris Johnson is a liar: Official

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-47913555

(And the Daily Telegraph says no one should take its content seriously.)

Iambuffy · 12/04/2019 20:08

It's insane isn't it?
The Tory membership is 80% in favour of no deal
The Labour membership is 80% in favour of remain
no one is getting what they want are they?
I just can't see how this gets resolved :(

SwedishEdith · 12/04/2019 20:09

Phil Hammond was on C4 News banging on about the Euro elections being pointless and "we'll" be ending FOM. Such vehemence from someone who knows Leave is nonsense is surely to pre-empt a Tory collapse in the elections and dog-whistle to voters to vote for them.

MockerstheFeManist · 12/04/2019 20:10

And £4 Billion spent on No Deal preparation was value-for-money.

GeistohneGrenzen · 12/04/2019 20:14

havingtochangeusernameagain Fri 12-Apr-19 17:05:04 Leicester would be a good place for a devolved parliament

Right, sorted. Shall I suggest it to Treeze Smile

...and at the same time you might remind her that Richard lll had obviously been marking the place for centuries - and as a true PMK he must surely be one of us? Grin

Littlespaces · 12/04/2019 20:17

Poor Yvette Cooper.

The comments on her top twitter post are just horrible.

PestyMachtubernahme · 12/04/2019 20:17

Talkin
Corbyn / McDonnell advised by Milne are strongly pro Leave
and they is the bosses
SO
Labour is leave

Iambuffy · 12/04/2019 20:20

Lib dems are the only pro remain party as change uk won't be ready by 2/5?
Ugh.

Littlespaces · 12/04/2019 20:20

I'm going to avoid voting Labour now, given that they have not taken a clear position.

woman19 · 12/04/2019 20:20

Jess Phillips response to NF's incitement.

@jessphillips
Jess Phillips Retweeted BBC Politics

You cannot scare me, you shouldn't try, why don't you try to build rather than break, it's harder, takes more time and intelligence granted, anyone can play fear peddling villain it's politics paint by numbers. Put away your finger paints, pick up a pen

I stand with Jess and feel likewise

Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, on Brexit: ‘We’ve got to accept we voted to leave, we’ve got to leave

www.channel4.com/news/archbishop-of-canterbury-justin-welby-on-brexit-weve-got-to-accept-we-voted-to-leave-weve-got-to-leave

Channel 4 stated that the majority of anglicans voted leave.

He appeared to agree with and joked about the NF threat re 'Fear of God'.

"There's a healthy fear of god which is good for everyone." he said. Hmm

Kathy Newman interrogated him about an appalling child abuse scandal committed by someone, John Smythe a former colleague of Welby, and which the C of E has not investigated.

TalkinPaece · 12/04/2019 20:21

Pesty
No, Labour needs to split (the Corbyn / Mcdonnell / Hoey / Skinner 3% and the rest)
as does the Tory party ( the ERG versus Kenny and Hezza and Grieve and co)

Corbyn was propelled to a level well above his competence
the party will sort itself out

PestyMachtubernahme · 12/04/2019 20:21

Party politics and Brexit politics does not aline.

We may all need to take a big deep breath and realine to reality.

I have flip-flopped between lib dem and labour for decades. Now I am looking at Green and an exiled Tory Confused

Who was a teacher at Winchester College when Seamus Milne was pupil .... join the dots

My constituency voted to leave by a fraction.
It has flipped between Tory and Labour several times
My MP represents it well.

This could have been written about my MP/constituency. But while that means I’ll probably vote for my Labour MP at the next GE, there is no way I’d currently consider voting labour in the European elections. I will be voting for a pro-remain party. This doesn’t not describe the current Labour Party.

Littlespaces · 12/04/2019 20:24

I'm looking at the Green Party.

I had an amazing letter back form Molly Scott Cato.

PestyMachtubernahme · 12/04/2019 20:25

Both Labour and Tory need to split, but they haven't.

May could just sack the ERGers and hope that she has a sensible plan that sensible MPs will vote for, but she hasn't and they don't.

FPTP causes us to have two large disjointed, dysfunctional and unsatisfactory parties.

WE could do better.

woman19 · 12/04/2019 20:26

More on Welby's colleague.

British barrister accused of child abuse had been charged in killing of teen

John Smyth, who is alleged to have abused boys while running Christian summer camps, had been charged with killing boy in Zimbabwe

Yuk.

Littlespaces · 12/04/2019 20:27

I'm hoping that all of us avoid the two main parties.

They really don't deserve votes for the way they have messed around (with the exception of some fine individual MP's on both sides).

PestyMachtubernahme · 12/04/2019 20:28

WE all know individual MPs can be lovely
BUT
Labour has spent two years acting as a leave party, Labour HQ does not like your MPs.

MockerstheFeManist · 12/04/2019 20:30

I have hated Tories ever since Ted Heath sent me to bed early in 1973.

Now, I'd cheerfully bury Labour and Conservatives in the same grave.

Tiggers are Macronite self-serving opportunists, Libs will always let you down, and Greenies never miss an opportunty to miss an opportunity.

RedToothBrush · 12/04/2019 20:30

Sabine Weyand @WeyandSabine
Former EU Trade Commissioner and WTO DG Pascal Lamy (+ my former boss) rightly says a customs union after #Brexit won’t resolve the Irish border. But I’d add: it wld contribute 2 a solution + wld be major bonus for UK manufacturing - no rules of origin

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/apr/12/brexit-customs-union-labour-irish-border

Sabine is giving a bloody big hint here.
