Westminstenders: 1001 Ways to wait for EUCO - Sprouts, Nits and Brexit

Not much more to say other than, all we can do is wait to hear our fate.

Which seems to lie in the hands of Macron.

I think these tweet sums a lot of it up from a couple of jaded soft leavers

Iain Martin @ iainmartin1
This terrible farce in Brussels tonight is like being British during the eurovision song contest. British entrant awaits fate, watching humiliating results come in, trying to smile for the audience back home.

George Trefgarne @georgetrefgarne
To be honest I think Buck’s Fizz and Cheryl thingummy would have made a better job of it

My advice: Don't wait up!

Pippa Crerar @pippacrerar
EU source on Macron: "He is in a bit of a schizophrenic situation - (his) domestic audience demands that he is tough on Britain for historic reasons. On the other hand, France is among the most-hit in any no-deal Brexit. It will take hours before we pull him down from his tree."

So Macron may end up being the one who gets the UK what it wants but is doing it to be tough on us. I'm not sure I understand EU politics.

I've been following these threads from the beginning, the best source of Brexit info on the internet. But as I doggedly read each post the end always gets further away and I never catch up enough to post. Unless, like now, everyone gives up and goes to bed!

While any extension will be a relief (or at least some reprieve!), I am not looking forward to more pushing of her WA by May

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 23:01

BCF, with what's been said, I now can't realistically see it being before 30th June. They will all want to concentrate on EP elections for a bit and give no further thought to Brexit until they absolutely have to.

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 23:01

Probably the EU will agree on conditions that Macron can accept

  • and can sell at home as being tough on the Batshit Brits

Let's hope May can then accept those conditions

  • wouldn't it be a turn-up (or turnip !) if she refused !
tobee · 10/04/2019 23:03

I came for the up to the minute Brexit info.
I stayed for the cat pics.

Blatant place mark.

QueenOfThorns · 10/04/2019 23:04

Just when I thought tonight’s nightmares were going to feature tinned sprouts, someone has to go and mention Francois and shagging in the same sentence Shock

Thanks, Red ... for everything!

tobee · 10/04/2019 23:04

I do love Leo Varadkar's voice.

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 23:04

woman He'll be kissing her hand next
I've seen a photo of Barnier doing that - I hope he gargled with copious Listerine afterwards

RHTawneyonabus · 10/04/2019 23:05

Wish they’d hurry up!

woman19 · 10/04/2019 23:06

Beautiful cat prettybird Agree BCF !

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 10/04/2019 23:06

Scratchy headed thanks red

woman19 · 10/04/2019 23:08

I so hope they listen to Tsipris. There's wisdom in handling these brexist/golden dawn types in his experience.

@pmdfoster
Per EU source. France is isolated. 4 Member states unspecified. Greeks backing long XT to Mar 2020 arguing holding EP elections will be humiliation for Brexiteers...and maybe the beginning of end of Brexit itself.

He is right.

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 23:09

General consensus from journos ... don't wait up !

Nick Gutteridge@nickgutteridge

Emmanuel Macron spoke at the end of the first roundtable of EU leaders this evening.

He told them he’s ‘in favour of a short extension, and only a short one’ according to a source.

Huge gap with most other Member States including Germany. _

We’re in for a long night...

....

katya adler@BBCkatyaadler

Gonna be a loooooong night at this #Brexit summit.

Unanimity is needed amongst EU leaders on how long to grant new extension for and which conditions to attach.

23.30 local time and unanimity ain’t nowhere in sight

NoWordForFluffy · 10/04/2019 23:09

Fluffy No E27 leaders so far have said they don't want any extension

Yep, BCF, I'm fully aware of that. But somebody on the previous thread said they thought that lack of consensus within the EU27 may lead to no deal if they can't agree. I was following on from that person.

I clearly should've quoted it as you obviously don't recall reading it.

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 23:11

And on that note from BCF.

I'm going to get some sleep whilst we await the white smoke.

That person is incorrect

This guy is pretty close to EU Commission

  • also some other reports earlier that they favour a Schlong, i.e. 30 June

However, it is the 27 heads of govt who actually have the vote

Fabian Zuleegg@FabianZuleeg* (European Policy Institute)

Let's hope there is no long extension purely based on hope of a re-emergence of British rationality:

< OUCH Blush >

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 23:16

fluffy Even if they can't agree to a long extension, they'd then almost certainly settle for a short one
Noone wants No Deal at this stage

NoWordForFluffy · 10/04/2019 23:16

And now my phone won't copy at all, typically!

But fair enough.

It was Cordelia who was hypothesising about whether they'd go for no deal instead. Then that thread carried on to say that wouldn't happen after I'd come onto this one, so I hadn't seen the follow up.

CatsinSpace · 10/04/2019 23:16

Ft are saying 31st October

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 23:17

That's a long Schlong !

CatsinSpace · 10/04/2019 23:19

Oooer missus Grin

Greensleeves · 10/04/2019 23:19

Andrew Byrne
UPDATE: A compromise proposal has emerged for an October 31st (Halloween) extension. It’s backed by Sweden, Denmark, Ireland and others. It splits the difference between long and short and cuts off just before new Commission is due to take office. 🎃

NoWordForFluffy · 10/04/2019 23:19

@BigChocFrenzy, yes, I am fully aware of that. I was following on from the hypothesising of Cordelia on the last thread, as already explained.

I do know what's been said, as I've watched the news and Newsnight and been reading this thread, I was merely carrying on the hypothesising.

PestyMachtubernahme · 10/04/2019 23:21

November 5th would have been more suitable Grin

AutumnCrow · 10/04/2019 23:21

Oh god if it's no deal I'm going to have to eat the tinned sprouts.

God damn you, God damn you all to hell
