Lost it by a big margin - 391 to 242.

Please, God, that means we're nearer to staying in the EU.

And a Corbyn government - god help us
I don't think there's any worries there. He's unelectable. How else could the opposition be polling 10pts behind this government shambles?

My hope is that at the end of the day, this whole shamble is not forgotten and we get a chance at electoral reform. We've one of the most backwards and least democratic democracies in the developed world.

kk66 · 12/03/2019 19:55

Any takers for 'May resigns'?

She's like a zombie coated in Teflon. She'll be here clinging to the last cactus on the planet when the rest of us have been taken out by the apocalypse. Her and the cockroaches ...

stopitandtidyupp · 12/03/2019 19:56

proudly part of the most corrupt and morally bankrupt ‘club’ in the western world - a club that prides itself on having different rules for different members depending on how white and Christian the majority of your population and where vast swathes of money is moved around in giant Ponzi schemes that ensure it only goes to the richer states - how proud we should be to remain in such a fine, upstanding organization.

The Tory party?

mathanxiety · 12/03/2019 19:56

Noname, good description of the US there (corrupt/ Ponzi scheme, different rules for rich, poor, black, white).

But we are talking about the advantages of leaving or remaining in the EU on this thread....

Triglesoffy · 12/03/2019 20:07

I actually think I am going to explode.

Noname99 · 12/03/2019 20:09

Yes - could equally apply to the Tory party and the US Smile but also the EU. Because honestly, are remainer honestly saying they have some great love for the paragon of democratic values that is the EU. Bollocks - i didn’t see anyone lining the street to campaign about the fabulous privilege of being in the EU. Turned out EU MEP votes is absolutely minuscule. Be honest at least, most remainers votes because it’s probably less personally risky not upset the apple cart. Their is not nor has there ever been an great European idealists vision in this county so let’s not pretend there is. The argument should be more nuanced than remain vs leave because actually both are pretty vile options.

Noname99 · 12/03/2019 20:11

Should say
*campaign about the fabulous privilege of being in the EU before the whole brexit

ilovesooty · 12/03/2019 20:12

I can't believe that anyone at this time is seriously whinging about Holby City being cancelled.

Rumboogie · 12/03/2019 20:14

No deal. Some disruption and a rocky road in the short term, but better for the country and our children long term.

Noname99 · 12/03/2019 20:14

mathsnxiety
Really?? That’s your benchmark .... the US is worse so ...... what?? We should be grateful for the EU
Christ

Aomame83 · 12/03/2019 20:17

@rumboogie how is it better for our country and children in the long run?

TopBitchoftheWitches · 12/03/2019 20:18

@ilovesooty why? What's the point of repeating the same stuff over and over? Nothing else will happen tonight. It's ridiculous.

lljkk · 12/03/2019 20:22

How can 2.5 yrs of all this stress & the entire civil service being sucked into a Brexit black hole mean the votes of 17 million were ignored.

Just coz they couldn't magic up a unicorn doesn't mean a lot of people didn't try very hard to make it happen. That's not a picture of ignoring those who voted for the fairytale.

So May has lost the vote. Now what?!
HereBeFuckery · 12/03/2019 20:24

@NotOnTheBench

We need to get out - that's what we voted for.

The EU is the one stalling and trying to keep us in [understandably] by making us sign up to a deal that means we remain part of the EU trade union but with no say at all over what tariffs can be set, what laws apply to us, etc etc.

We cannot stay in the EU with no say on any of the rules so we need to exit. Let's go!

Let me fix that for you:

'I think we should get out - that's what I voted for.

The EU is made up of a large number of constituent countries and hundreds of thousands of people; it is not a 'one' anything, nor does it have a single anthropomorphised point of view. Negotiators working on behalf of the EU seem to want to keep us in (inexplicably since we have voted to leave and do not contribute massively) but since we threw the big tantrum, they are unwilling to allow this to go unremarked upon.

We could stay, but I would prefer we leave with no plan, no money, no deal and no clue. Off we potter.'

You're welcome.

theluckiest · 12/03/2019 20:25

'Pops in...has a quick look around...leaves this here...'

So May has lost the vote. Now what?!
PiebaldHamster · 12/03/2019 20:28

We need to get out - that's what we voted for.

No, we didn't. England did. Off they fuck then. Roll on IndyRef2.

Holidayshopping · 12/03/2019 20:28

This is all such a mess!

PhannyMcNee · 12/03/2019 20:31

Genuine question kk66 - who would you want in charge if May does resign?

That’s what worries me the most and has for quite some time - what is the alternative?

FinallyHere · 12/03/2019 20:39

@NotOnTheBench

Let's go!

Does the Good Friday Agreement and the responsibilities that we accepted under that international agreement mean nothing to you ?

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 12/03/2019 20:42

Bloody shambles. As everyone expected.

Can we stop this Brexit idiocy now please?

Billballbaggins · 12/03/2019 20:45

It’s nuts; May needs to stop this whole shambolic charade. No deal would be a catastrophe and there are so many other issues we have.

ItsMsAtomicBobToYou · 12/03/2019 20:57

I'm absolutely stunned by the shortsighted attitude of some people here.

Leave means leave my arse. Leave means plunging other people into a world of crap just because you have some fantasy of "taking back our sovereignty" that seems to involve a pre-War soft focus fiction. Keep repeating the same nonsense about the EU, it doesn't actually make it true.

Never mind that pesky international treaty that stopped people bombing in Northern Ireland. Never mind the people whose livelihoods will be destroyed by no deal. Never mind all the jobs and investment that are now going elsewhere. As long as you get your blue passports and your illusion of sovereignty everything will be fiiiiiiiine.

In the meantime, the Tories will tighten the screws, force more people into food banks and sit back while JRM and his rich mates move all their money out of the country. Leave means leave unless you have wads of cash and then you can shift your money around while everyone else gets the shit end of the stick.

PiebaldHamster · 12/03/2019 21:10

Does the Good Friday Agreement and the responsibilities that we accepted under that international agreement mean nothing to you ?

Of course it doesn't! Leavers don't give a fuck about NI or Scotland.

PiebaldHamster · 12/03/2019 21:13

Exactly, Atomic

Xenia · 12/03/2019 21:15

Tomorrow presumably MPs will vote not to crash out.
The day after they may decide to beg the EU for an extension of Ar 50 notice which may or may not be agreed and if it is may come with expensive conditions.
Then.... we don't know what will happen. It is a mess.
