Lost it by a big margin - 391 to 242.

Please, God, that means we're nearer to staying in the EU.

I'm hoping for a Revoke vote in HoC followed by TM's resignation and a General Election. I would consider TM a fucking legend if she did that.

DioneTheDiabolist · 12/03/2019 23:12

I am a bit pissed off about Holby though.Blush They could have put it on BBC2.

ExtraPineappleExtraHam · 12/03/2019 23:14

Is anyone else torn between wanting us to forget this whole Brexit nonsense and wanting it to go completely tits up to see the remorseful, guilty vote leavers faces? Then I remember that it's my country so the jokes still on me.

Ribbonsonabox · 12/03/2019 23:15

I'm so confused by the whole thing that my only priority is that article 50 gets extended somi can gompn holiday in April and my health insurance card will still be valid....
I used to give a shit about politics but right now I cant make head nor tail of it...
I'd vote remain in another referendum... but even so I'm not sure that another referendum would actually be in the countrys best interests... I just dont know!! Wish wed never had the first one it's so ridiculous and has wasted tonnes of money and massively divided the country.

grumpyyetgorgeous · 12/03/2019 23:21

I'm
Watching Emily Maitlis on newsnight trying to get any sense out of a number of politicians. She can't. Because there is no sense to any of it is there?
It's fucking ludicrous. I'm so angry!!

This, in a nutshell. The politicians appear to be voting against everything but NOBODY has any clear idea of what they actually want to happen. It's a big mess. My best hope is that they'll keep delaying it until it just sort of gets forgotten about Confused

AnOwlCalledPlop · 12/03/2019 23:26

Will they vote again on Mays deal at any point? Seen a few tweets which seem to suggest this but I might be wrong.

7Pip · 12/03/2019 23:32

The reason why no logical discussion has been had is because immigration is the reason why Leave won. They absolutely refuse to acknowledge this in political circles. You're not even allowed to mention it on MN (which I used to believe was an open forum for discussion). Meh.
It was never about the EU, FISHERY, ECHR, THE NHS, HAVING POWER or whatever other reasons they dance around.
They won't for some bizarre reason allow people say that immigration was the issue.

TheShuttle · 12/03/2019 23:34

What absolute tosh on this thread.

Sorry for those of you who didn't get to watch Holby tonight. That must have been really disappointing for you. (Sarcastic)

Nobody has tried to stop the UK leave the EU. It has become apparent that leaving will be hugely detrimental, catastrophic even for the UK. Initially, we were promised having exactly the same privileges out of the EU as in. Remember that? Having cake and eating it.. enjoying all that extra investment in the NHS. That was always crap though we weren't allowed to say so as that would just spoil the illusion. Party poppers.

Then there was the long period of time when the EU kept asking what the UK wanted. And the government didn't know. They expected to be handed a super offer on a plate, being treated as an exception! How long did it take for the UK to even understand that the 4 freedoms could not be divided?

Then there's northern Ireland and its land border with the EU. It took a very long time for anyone to think about that. When they did, they seemed very happy to tear up the GFA. Why not just throw Ireland under the bus? Again. Good job for Ireland that they have such powerful friends.

Has anyone noticed just how competent people representing the EU are? How they have managed to unite 27 countries as one? In an intelligent and dignified manner and in complete control?

Then look at the farce representing the British government. A conservative party that has fought amongst itself over the last 2 and a half years and is represented by cartoon like characters nobody takes seriously. And you think the EU have problems!?

That would be the EU in which the UK had a highly influential role. And made laws that were to a very high degree supported by the UK government, whatever shit was written in the tabloids to entertain the hard of thinking.

Whatever happens now, on the international scene, the UK has lost credibility and lost the respect of our former close friends and allies.

ExtraPineappleExtraHam · 12/03/2019 23:38

@TheShuttle you have hit the nail on the head.

7Pip · 12/03/2019 23:39

My own little observation on it? Wales/Scotland/NI don't have much immigration. They voted to remain are they are aggregate beneficiaries of the EU
England has voted to LEAVE.
London voted Remain? Why? Because they are wealthy and rely on free trade with the EU.

Everybody voted every man for himself.
That's the democracy of a united kingdom. Ironic that England doesn't like a United Europe aka the EU.

LinoleumBlownapart · 12/03/2019 23:44

Wales/Scotland/NI don't have much immigration. They voted to remain Wales voted to leave,

bitheby · 12/03/2019 23:46

Wales votes to leave. Despite being a net beneficiary of the EU. EU money has paid for so much here in Wales; can't drive very far without seeing an EU flag sign.

Brexit will probably be catastrophic for most of the farmers.

7Pip · 12/03/2019 23:46

Well the Welsh have always been a bit different Grin

I love Welsh people!

SparklySneakers · 12/03/2019 23:47

@7Pip wales voted leave. Large portions of England voted remain. Just not enough.

When people talk about Scotland voting remain it comes across as though every single person in Scotland voted remain. They didn't. It was roughly 70/30 to remain. Too tired to retrieve the actual figures. NI was more equal. Wales just over 50% (I think) to leave. England similar. So please don't tar everyone by the majority vote for their country. I voted remain and get fed up with the "the English voted leave" line.

omarlarge · 12/03/2019 23:48

Yes, Wales voted leave, percentages 52/47.

7Pip · 12/03/2019 23:48

So really it was London/Scotland/NI who voted to remain?
Sorry, it's been a while.

PhannyMcNee · 12/03/2019 23:48

kk66 thank you. I’m with you as I don’t see a viable alternative. I misunderstood your first post completely Smile

SparklySneakers · 12/03/2019 23:50

Manchester voted remain. Leeds voted remain. Stockport voted remain. To name 3 I've heard discussed.

omarlarge · 12/03/2019 23:51

Cardiff voted remain. Same result as London oddly. 60/40.

7Pip · 12/03/2019 23:52

What way did Liverpool and Birmingham vote?
Seems the cities voted remain?

SparklySneakers · 12/03/2019 23:52

NI was 55.8% to remain, 44.2% to leave. Scotland had the biggest remain vote by far.

7Pip · 12/03/2019 23:53

Well if the margins you are citing here are typical, how did Leave win? Who voted to Leave?

SparklySneakers · 12/03/2019 23:55

Liverpool remain. Birmingham leave (60/40 roughly). Am done googling now. Results are there for anyone who wants to access them.

ExtraPineappleExtraHam · 12/03/2019 23:55

Bristol voted remain. So proud.

7Pip · 12/03/2019 23:56

So, outside of Cardiff, a massive proportion of Welsh must have voted Leave.
Outside of English cities, a massive proportion of English must have voted Leave.
Have I got that right?
Surrey/Sussex/Kent - commuter counties for the rich into London - how did they vote?
