Vote 12th March: Meaningful Vote on the Withdrawal Agreement

Vote 13th March: If WA fails, vote on No Deal

Vote 14th March: If WA fails, vote on A50 extension

Not much more to add at this stage that's not repeating what's been said before.

Ooo this one is deeply controversial but I think will be popular here

Science has dim view of Brexit voters’ brains

It is a belief that some pro-Europeans already hold dear, but a group of scientists now claim to have confirmed it: Brexit voters are less bright than remainers.

Researchers gave 11,225 volunteers psychological tests before the referendum and asked how they intended to vote. Results suggest that leavers tended to be less numerate, more impulsive and more prone to accept the unsupported claims of authoritarian figures.

“Compared with remain voters, leave voters displayed significantly lower levels of numeracy and appeared more reliant on impulsive thinking,” said the researchers, based at Missouri University.

Ha, and also, oh dear.

RedToothBrush · 10/03/2019 00:37

It's not one to gloat over. It's not good.

'You can't argue with stupid' is not a good position to be in, in political terms.

I'd give the AIBU thread of that news article a day before it'd get deleted. Tops.

That article is depressing, not good news at all
For the reasons you gave

I haven't read the article, but this is probably more a function of age - leavers tend to be older, and less educated, having been let down by the Secondary Modern system brought in after the war.

I can't see May revoking and if she did the ERG would still be going on and on. I have come to the depressing conclusion that we will have to crash out, that we will then have shortages of food and medicine, and have riots, or have things like people finding that they can't drive on the continent without an IDL, and getting spot fines. It's only that which will turn ordinary Leavers against May ("Theresa's doing a good job"). The ERG will still be fine, being moneyed. But Labour really need to get rid of Corbyn, and get someone that the Tories are scared of.

BTW did anyone notice in that cartoon that Farage had a parachute? The others didn't.

Peregrina · 10/03/2019 05:25

Couldn't sleep - that's why I am posting at this hour.

TheMostBoringPersonEver · 10/03/2019 06:16

I missed teh end of the last thread, and will go back and read, but did we discuss the fact that we apparently conduct politics through the medium of twitter now, rather than through actual talking? May says something, Junker tweets 'nope' as a response. Then there is yesterdays fiasco too....

sigh.

Right off to catch up on last thread.

Sostenueto · 10/03/2019 06:18

Morning all. Dog gets me up for call of nature only to stick head out of back door sees its pouring and dives back to bedShock now I am up while she snores in bedroom wondering what do I do at 6 am on a Sunday morning?

frumpety · 10/03/2019 06:29

Sos morning ! Cat got me up earlier than I needed to be, not at work until 8 , he decided he was hungry at 5 , he has gone back to bed now Hmm

Flowerplower · 10/03/2019 06:33

That article about leavers being less intelligent goes well with the gove view that "we've had enough of experts". In extremely broad general terms, intelligent people have let less intelligent people down by acting in their own self interests and making less intelligent people's lives pretty miserable. If you can't be a knowledge worker at a pretty high level then you're probably going to be stuck in a shitty job at a low wage with terrible working conditions, if you can even find a job at all. Life under austerity has been so bad for so many people it's no wonder a lot have wanted to try something, anything, different without thinking through.

Flowerplower · 10/03/2019 06:34

I'm not saying everyone who is underemployed is less intelligent, by the way!

Sostenueto · 10/03/2019 06:48

LonelyandTiredandLow · 10/03/2019 06:48

Cat got me up half an hour ago here too Smile

My leaver friend takes a very dim view of these articles suggesting Leave voters are uneducated/undereducated. She does not fit into that category at all, so they must be wrong!

I don't think she reads The Times and I've tried to stay away from Brexit on Fb due to friend's husband and her request at the school...damn. I think WhatsApping it to her is a step too far Grin

Sostenueto · 10/03/2019 06:49

Anyone worked out odds on TM pulling the vote on Tuesday as its blaringly obvious there will be no meaningful changes?

LonelyandTiredandLow · 10/03/2019 06:51

Flower trouble is when the anti-experts take over we end up with 2.5 years on infighting and no trade deals let alone any change to austerity. They say a lot of things, but do zilch.

Not letting experts do their job has cost this country more than austerity ever did.

MangoSplit · 10/03/2019 06:51

Pmk

Flowerplower · 10/03/2019 06:52

Oh, definitely, lonelyandtiredandlow, I completely agree with that!

LonelyandTiredandLow · 10/03/2019 06:53

By that i'm not trying to minimise the effects of austerity, just pointing out we've not got ourselves even deeper into the mire and more cuts will be needed.

Sostenueto · 10/03/2019 06:54

Ah lonelytoo joins our new club of abused and used pet owners! Where would we be without them I ask. At least I can prattle on to my hound in my way with no repercussions as to the gibberish spoken by me!Grin though occasionally there is a certain look in her eyes that suggest I might need some professional help especially when I mention a certain B word. LonelyandTiredandLow · 10/03/2019 06:57

not = now

Am having a dilemma about planting out due to news of cold weather.
Have saved takeaway tubs and going to do more seedlings indoors I think. I've got leeks, french beans, sprouts and courgettes to do.
Dd positively hates all of those yet was earnestly discussing becoming a vegetarian yesterday Hmm.

Sostenueto · 10/03/2019 06:57

She's still snoring by the way.( sigh)...... Tick,tock,tick,tock.....

bellinisurge · 10/03/2019 07:02

@LonelyandTiredandLow , hang on a bit longer before you plant.

Sostenueto · 10/03/2019 07:02

Have a porch that is ideal for my seedlings. Have salad stuff on the go, some flowers and onions, peas and various others. I won't put out till end of April me thinks. I'm not a very good gardener, usually throw 'em in and hope to goodness I planted them the right way up and leave the rest to luck and nature!
