Vote 12th March: Meaningful Vote on the Withdrawal Agreement

Vote 13th March: If WA fails, vote on No Deal

Vote 14th March: If WA fails, vote on A50 extension

Not much more to add at this stage that's not repeating what's been said before.

What's the worst outcome you can foresee for next week's votes? To me is it's the rumor TM may renege on the No Deal vote and replace instead with a vote on her deal minus the backstop (if her deal is voted down) so that she can go back to Brussels to blackmail the EU with renewed energy

SparklySneakers · 09/03/2019 19:45

According to this if the e tension vote fails it's still no deal but not sure how they work that one out?

e tension

Good name for it.

{so that she can go back to Brussels to blackmail the EU with renewed energy}
Blackmailing the EU won't work.
The UK declaring 'no deal' is not a disastrous threat to the EU. They don't want it but they are not going to compromise much or even anything.
Remember, customs and transport preparations not being completed mean that UK has difficulty eating, not that the EU will collapse.

Littlespaces · 09/03/2019 20:01

I see the dream team of possible candidates for next Tory leader are -

Jeremy Hunt (front runner)
Michael Gove
Dominic Raab
Boris Johnson
Rat 5
Rat 6

How to choose?

mrslaughan · 09/03/2019 20:01

Thanks even for helping to keep me sane - PMK for sanity

LonelyandTiredandLow · 09/03/2019 20:01

If we HoC don't pass anything apart from hot air we No Deal.

Even if they voted it "off the table" it doesn't work like that and IMO it's a pointless vote just to enable May to say "aha! so you HAVE to have my deal!" and they all go "No ta!" and we have no time left and no new ideas so no reason for an extension.

mrslaughan · 09/03/2019 20:03

@Littlespaces - do we have to pick one? That list is enough to put anyone over the edge.
I said to my DH this week if BJ (new haircut and all 🤢🤮) became PM I may have to leave the country for the duration..... have to say DH looked suitably nervous 😳

littlemonkeyface · 09/03/2019 20:03

PMK and de-lurking to say many thanks to RTB and all other regular posters (I have been following every Westminster thread since the very beginning).

bellinisurge · 09/03/2019 20:14

Pmk. Thank you. Watching action movie, drinking wine, eating chocolate . I suspect this isn't a long term solution.

67chevvyimpala · 09/03/2019 20:18

I'm watching sci fi, drinking tea and eating chocolate.

It's my way of coping with brexshit

Loletta · 09/03/2019 20:23

LeClerc agree blackmail won't work with the EU. I see it as the worst case scenario because it's so shameful and cringey

pointythings · 09/03/2019 20:27

I'm stuffing my face with ice cream and looking lovingly at my stocked cupboards, shelves and freezer. 2 weeks' worth of food for 3 - sorted. I also intend to fuel the car and maintain the fuel strikes protocol.

Yes, that is what I am wondering about too. I don't think TM worries about doing shameful things, or the finer details of the constitution/what is legal.

PestyMachtubernahme · 09/03/2019 20:36

Four cases of wine have arrived and the mange tout are sown. We are ready.

In a strangely fucked up world, how are we going to avoid no-deal, just voting against it won't make it go away. DH is sceptical that the EU will allow an extension. unless May's deal goes through.

I might service my bicycle tomorrow.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 09/03/2019 20:37

Yeah, like that is going to work. What part of GFA does she not understand? (Answers less than 37 pages please).

KennDodd · 09/03/2019 20:39

Thank you Red.

BigChocFrenzy · 09/03/2019 20:42

worried afaik, the HoC would not vote to say how long an extension, just that they want to extend
The extension May is thought to favour is only 3 weeks

That doesn't increase the likelihood of Remain - it only gives her yet another chance to force her WA theough.

If we ask to extend 21 months - and the EU agree - there is a chance we could drift into Remain
but imo even here, Rentoul overstates the likelihood.

BigChocFrenzy · 09/03/2019 20:44

If the HoC passed the WA without the backstop,
that wouldn't be trying to blackmail the EU, just would just be trying to put the blame for No Deal on them
Pointless

BigChocFrenzy · 09/03/2019 20:52

sparkly Many people - and MPs - seem confused about this:

The HoC cannot vote to make No Deal impossible, because A50 is part of an international treaty

They can only vote that the government shouldn't make No Deal its policy.

If the government / HoC refuse to choose an available optio:

extend (if the EU agree) / WA / Revoke

then No Deal happens automatically, even if the HoC voted against it
