Vote 12th March: Meaningful Vote on the Withdrawal Agreement

Vote 13th March: If WA fails, vote on No Deal

Vote 14th March: If WA fails, vote on A50 extension

Not much more to add at this stage that's not repeating what's been said before.

JRM unimpressed from watching Sky news and seeing him question Barclay.

Flowerplower · 12/03/2019 12:25

Why would they? Because they don't have the courage of their convictions. Hell, many of them don't even have the convictions of their convictions.

DGRossetti · 12/03/2019 12:55

There's no courage in rejecting the WA - just bloodymindedness.

Courage would be standing up, apologising for the past 2 years shit show and effect it's had on innocent people, and campaigning for revoke.

FinallyHere · 12/03/2019 13:03

I see no good in the WA, and am holding out for (ideally) revoke and otherwise delay, delay, delay.

Call me a cock eyed optimist

Peregrina · 12/03/2019 13:04

campaigning for revoke.

Then start a proper campaign as to why this is a good decision and how it will benefit their constituents.

I suspect its too late now. It was probably possible up to October 2016.

DGRossetti · 12/03/2019 13:07

It's no deal. It was always going to be no deal. This is all pantomime.

There is no route to a delay, except via a general election, or legislation committing the UK to a PV.

Butterymuffin · 12/03/2019 13:09

I wish someone would push for a decent length extension for now.

1tisILeClerc · 12/03/2019 13:09

Unfortunately delaying simply seals the fate of so many employers by industry that is closely tied to the EU.
Businesses can make plans and work around many problems but not knowing the operating conditions stops any sort of planning.
If you take someone into A+E for something serious, you don't leave them on a trolley in the corridor unattended for a week.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/03/2019 13:11

ERG says no according to twitter.

DGRossetti · 12/03/2019 13:12

Meanwhile, this popped up on my FaceBook ...

preetkaurgill.com/content/preet-doorknocks-bartley-green

“It was great to be out doorknocking in Bartley Green with our Labour activists today. Constituents consistently raised concerns that parliament is spending too much time on Brexit when there are other important issues to be tackled, including the negative impact that the Tory austerity programme is having on them and their families.”

Not quite a swing behind remain, but a suggestion that less people would be quite so bothered about no Brexit than is being threatened ....

Peregrina · 12/03/2019 13:14

I agree DGR - if people see some end to austerity and some real benefit, they will go back to neither knowing nor caring about the EU. But I still think it's probably too late.

TalkinPaece · 12/03/2019 13:14

For anybody with a Facebook account, I can heartily recommend this page

Sostenueto · 12/03/2019 13:15

What do people think of DUP reaction to answer of their questions? Did they look OK or not?

DGRossetti · 12/03/2019 13:15

Brexiteers in business ....

Westminstenders: Here we go again
Sostenueto · 12/03/2019 13:18

Anna Soubry now on. She asks if there is no more negotiations with EU. He says yes there are no more negotiations. This is it.

RedToothBrush · 12/03/2019 13:18

Just driven home listening to radio 5 live.

They reported that the 5 explosive devices posted the other week from an Irish source have been claimed. A call was made to a Belfast location (I think it was police but I wasn't paying enough attention) and a recognised code used. It was the New IRA (which has only relatively new) as opposed to the Provisional IRA which was the group most commonly associated with trouble in NI.

{I agree DGR - if people see some end to austerity and some real benefit, they will go back to neither knowing nor caring about the EU. But I still think it's probably too late.}

If it wasn't for the massive body blow that a significant part of UK industry has taken, quietly remaining probably would be acceptable to many if not most.
The issue being that companies have moved or are planning to move possibly very soon, at which point the real horror of what has been started will be revealed. The world has spun for nearly 3 years from where the UK was as a stable pragmatic economy and there is no way it can get back to where it was.
The UK needs to do some radical thinking and at the moment there is only backsliding and lies going on.

DGRossetti · 12/03/2019 13:22

Meanwhile, touching on the geopolitiks of the situation ...

www.theregister.co.uk/2019/03/12/us_germany_huawei_5g_intelligence_cutoff/

included the key snippet ...

If there's one thing the US fears, it's a world order where American interests come second to anyone else's. While unthinkable in Europe 30 years ago, that day may not be so far away now.

DGRossetti · 12/03/2019 13:23

The UK needs to do some radical thinking and at the moment there is only backsliding and lies going on.

no deal will provide plenty of that.

Angeladelight · 12/03/2019 13:32

Anyone else just feel 🤯 I was struggling to keep up a few months ago, I’m completely lost now! Listening to radio hoping something makes sense, but grateful as always for this thread (even if it moves at lightning speed sometimes Grin)

wheresmymojo · 12/03/2019 14:09

According to BBC live feed the ERG may abstain.

Sky say the DUP are against the deal.

Two previous 'nay' votes in the Tories have come out supporting the deal today.

No idea where this leaves the numbers as I haven't thought about the ERG abstaining.

TalkinPaece · 12/03/2019 14:10

Cannot face watching the news
am meant to be working

wheresmymojo · 12/03/2019 14:11

To clarify Sky say the rumours are that DUP are against, no official word.

HazardGhost · 12/03/2019 14:15

The ERG were arguing amoungst themselves a few wks back...I'd be surprised if they could all agree to abstain.
