Brexit

Does anyone genuinely think that things will continue exactly as they are if we crash out with no deal?

If so, what is your reasoning behind this?

Minniesmum I've reported your post. Calling one nationality stupid and their home country a hovel? Really?

Your assertion that "this isn't coming from a place of racism" is starting to look very unconvincing.

bellinisurge · 19/02/2019 13:02

Racist bollocks reported.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/02/2019 13:05

There are at least 3 on this thread minnie

MinniesMum1606 · 19/02/2019 13:08

Do your worst folks, I really don’t give a shit! So what, my posts get removed, or I get booted off MN, how ever will I cope?! I think I’ll live.

redhat · 19/02/2019 13:45

I think we're better off without you if you're going to be racist.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/02/2019 13:52

Do your worst folks,

Well reporting someone wouldn't be the worst

The best heart surgeon I know is Romanian. His skills are world renowned and his English is impeccable. I am moved by his empathy towards his patients and colleagues. Actually, I know quite a few Romanians doctors who are the same and are very good at their jobs.

Shame that some people think they judge people's intelligence based on their nationality and limited experience.

Yaralie · 19/02/2019 14:27

Sadly, the answer to the question is yes. There are millions of idiots in this country.

pointythings · 20/02/2019 20:19

The surgeon who did my cataract operation was Romanian. The only questionable thing about him was his taste in operating room music (dreadful unstructured tuneless jazz).

Brexit has really brought the racists swarming out of the woodwork of this country Sad

lonelyplanetmum · 21/02/2019 04:09

My old neighbour is also married to a senior consultant doctor who works at Great Ormond Street ( came here about 15 years ago to look after our very sick children). She says recruitment of doctors at GOS is in acute crisis.

I have another friend who is also a consultant at a Middlesex hospital - she is British/German as it happens. She says the lack of nurses (as a result of the loss of good EU ones) means existing staff are under phenomenal strain and care plans for critically ill patients can't be properly followed through.

lonelyplanetmum · 21/02/2019 04:11

Oh sorry I didn't even say. The first consultant I mentioned that I know is Romanian the second one German/ British.

SalrycLuxx · 21/02/2019 07:56

As a country we essentially said “if you’re foreign we don’t want you” then got surprised when those people said ‘ok, I’ll go then’.

It’s going to take a long long time to fix what we’ve done.

Peregrina · 21/02/2019 07:59

And then Mrs May saying that 'the country is open for business' is like the xenophobes who say, 'Oh I don't mean you' when they are challenged.

pointythings · 21/02/2019 09:37

I've had the 'Oh I don't mean you' soooo many times. I don't speak to the people who have used it. We've had to change archery clubs because ours was full of xenophobic old gits.

BlackeyedGruesome · 21/02/2019 09:43

Glad to see lots of awful posts were deleted.

I can tell you, the loveliest mum in my youngest school bumps into me one day at pick up, and I’m furious for one of the episodes of this saga (can’t even remember which one) so we start chatting about Brexit, and I say I’m worried and she starts gaping at me and stammer saying “but you...you are...surely you...” at which point I explained that we’ve got double citizenship, I’m not worried about US, about settled status or paperwork for us as a family, I’m worried for the country and for my employees etc. Even with the best intentions, some people seem to assume that the problem only affects others and for some reason in their bubbles the people they know are immune...
After that, she said she’s worried because 68% of her workforce is EU (creative industry)...

Minniesmum
I skim read some pages back that you mentioned that Poland is a poor country. I was talking a a young woman (23-25 years) in a launderette in Portugal where I live. She was returning home to Poland with her Portuguese boyfriend. She studied as an architect and now because Poland and their government want their people home they are offering large incentives. Council homes and cheap houses to buy are being built. Incentives to have children and benefits are being offered. The woman would not go home earlier as she said “polish can be rather discriminating against foreigners”. She was afraid her boyfriend might have been beaten up. She now felt this was less likely to happen as there is plenty of work. Good luck to them both and to all those people who can now return to their native countries as they are in the up.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the escapees to Portugal are coming thick and fast from France, Germany and Holland.

MissedTheBoatAgain · 12/03/2019 02:25

people with knowledge have been saying this, but it all gets dismissed by the Brexiters. They just won't listen

Because they are entitled to vote how they want to vote. Nothing in Law (to my knowledge) that says:

"Because you are not considered to be an Expert you are not allowed to vote"

MissedTheBoatAgain · 12/03/2019 02:27

And who encouraged that? And who then didn't use the curbs allowed on E European immigration? Step forward the UK Government

Labour in 2004 opened the floodgates to E Europe. However, other EU Countries like France and Germany benefited from cheap labour too.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 12/03/2019 03:16

If we crash out, how many months will interruption and problems with supply last, can anyone fathom a guess?
If there is a 3 month extension, does that simply mean that any predicted problems are just being shunted to the end of June instead?

Thanks in advance x
