Good news yesterday < gets out green highlighter >
Still work to be done but it’s another step in the right direction.

Wine

Ps: completely given up on the Brexit Arms as it’s been taken over by remainers.
This is our chilled out place to post on in the run up to March 2019.

Positive people only Smile

Why do you insist that all leavers want a protectionist Britain?

Peregrina · 22/03/2018 10:11

I believe that DB as one example, draws up its specifications fairly tightly so that it is pretty sure that only DB is qualified to be awarded the contract. Now that may be against the spirit of the EU rules, but if this is true, it does mean it's possible.

BrandySchnapps · 22/03/2018 10:12

Sorry, pressed post too soon...

Why do you insist that all leavers want a protectionist Britain?

Was a response to Bear's post:

^PMSL! I thought the narrative was that Leavers were happy to pay a bit more for British made goods rather than awarding contracts to other countries.

I thought the priority was supposed to be British jobs.^

OliviaD68 · 22/03/2018 10:13

@BrandySchnapps

Because they complain a French / Dutch firm has won a public tender against a British one.

Isn't Brexit supposed to be about raw capitalism? Best woman wins etc? Open borders? No checks or regulations etc?

mummmy2017 · 22/03/2018 10:14

Hang on the whole point of leaving is to be able to do trade , at what point have any leavers said we will only buy UK products. We want a more open system than the SM. In this case the price was cheaper, the deal was awarded. Common sense... And just what the leavers want ..

Peregrina · 22/03/2018 10:15

Funnily enough, I have a blue passport cover, very similar to how the new blue passports will look. But it says European Union on the front and I don't plan to change it. I too remember the old, very dark blue passports, with the little windows, with your name written in ink, and a photo stuck in, of a size not now permitted under ICAO rules.

surferjet · 22/03/2018 10:15

I couldn’t give a toss what colour my passport is - I don’t actually remember blue passports.

JWIM · 22/03/2018 10:16

Surferjet remainers did not say that. I did not say that about you. Insulting someone is not how I engage in debate.

Mistigri · 22/03/2018 10:17

Governments can produce their passports in-house if they want to, they don't have to put it out to tender. But if they do outsource, it has to be via a competitive tender. This will be as true outside the EU (under WTO rules) as it is inside.

Don't understand what is controversial about this.

surferjet · 22/03/2018 10:18

Then you need to pull Londonmum up on his/her disgusting posts.
She’s representing team remain so deal with her.

Peregrina · 22/03/2018 10:19

We actually have old navy blue passports in the drawer, plus an old post war ID card. DH is a hoarder. I chucked my old passports out years ago. I did see my old ID card, but that went missing years ago - I might just have saved it as a curiosity, despite not being a hoarder myself.

JWIM · 22/03/2018 10:19

No, there is no 'team remain' we are all individuals accountable for our own posts.

bearbehind · 22/03/2018 10:19

We want a more open system than the SM.

But we are going to end up staying in SM/CU because we can't resolve NI otherwise.

So we will be forever beholden to EU rules we can no longer influence.

time4chocolate · 22/03/2018 10:20

Either you are an utter idiot or surely you must understand that the rule is that all EU companies must be allowed to submit bids....

Well that’s charming - I think you may have missed my point but never mind. I’ll let you froth away at my complete idiocy.

Peregrina · 22/03/2018 10:21

So you are telling us Mistigri that our Govt has chosen to put the passports out to tender? How convenient - another chance to blame the EU for a Westminster decision!

surferjet · 22/03/2018 10:23

JWIM - turning a blind eye to her posts makes you just as bad imo.
If remainers tell her to shut the fuck up maybe she will.

JWIM · 22/03/2018 10:25

Can we all agree - another positive - that there has been no impediment, EVER, to the UK trading with countries that are not members of the EU other than where internationally agreed sanctions are in place.

JWIM · 22/03/2018 10:27

Surferjet your view of me is duly noted. It is not my place to moderate the language of posters, including you.

twofingerstoEverything · 22/03/2018 10:28

Brandy You took the time to 'search the thread' (your words) but then paradoxically claim to have not RTFT.
It's not a paradox at all. You know there's a search facility, don't you? It saves a lot of time and means you don't have to RTFT to find something. Basically, you can click on 'find' in your browser and search for a specific word or phrase. Let me know if you'd like assistance finding it.

DGRossetti · 22/03/2018 10:31

.

surferjet · 22/03/2018 10:32

It was good to see Nigel Farage sticking up for our fishermen yesterday - we need him to keep our politicians on track......because if they let us down he’ll be back, & they really don’t want that! Grin
It was the EU who blocked the deal though of course, but waiting another year is a small price to pay I guess.

OP posts:
twofingerstoEverything · 22/03/2018 10:32

So twofingerstoEverything are you ok with remainers saying I’m suffering from paranoid & manic delusions simply because I’m happy we’re leaving the EU.
You think that’s ok do you?
No, I don't. HTH.
Furthermore, I don't imagine it was "remainers" saying anything. We are not a hive. It would have been an individual poster, so why not respond to them, rather than accusing "remainers" of calling you "mental".

twofingerstoEverything · 22/03/2018 10:34

Surferjet remainers did not say that. I did not say that about you. Insulting someone is not how I engage in debate.
I see JWIM got there before me.

surferjet · 22/03/2018 10:36

We are not a hive

Says the person obsessed with staying in a union.

Could everyone, from whatever team Hmm refrain from using disablist language? Thanks.
