Still work to be done but it’s another step in the right direction.

Wine

Ps: completely given up on the Brexit Arms as it’s been taken over by remainers.
This is our chilled out place to post on in the run up to March 2019.

Just keepin' it realGrin

mummmy2017 · 22/03/2018 20:10

Yes fishing is worth fighting over.

Just like the new right to sort trade deals us a major step forward...
It's all little steps to a better way of doing things.
Pleased about us not providing troops as well for the exercises due in 2019....

LondonMum8 · 22/03/2018 20:14

This is madness.

Moussemoose · 22/03/2018 20:20

But no one is fighting over fishing. The government sold you down the river and will do so again. Brexit will not sort this issue out, it might make it worse. We will be forced to accept a deal on fishing as a trade off for something else and we now have no input on committees or in the EU parliament.

Brexit may well make the situation worse. Well done.

Why do you think the EU have said we can now sort trade deals to start the day we leave?

Moussemoose · 22/03/2018 20:28

Don't get me started on a democracy rant. Everyone else has heard it several times.

To sum up. The EU is democratic. If you are concerned about democratic accountability then you need to start with the U.K. FPTP voting discounts the popular vote and the HoC is an elective dictatorship.

The EU is a model of democratic accountability compared with the UK.

That's great news Mummy , so we have sorted out the NI issue then ?

mummmy2017 · 22/03/2018 20:39

Glad you think the trade deals is a good idea...

bearbehind · 22/03/2018 20:39

Why do you think the EU have said we can now sort trade deals to start the day we leave?

Because they're looking forward to 2 years pissing themselves laughing over the fact we will only be offered punitive trade agreements which we can't even commence until 2021.

frumpety · 22/03/2018 20:41

So we can do the trade deals to start at the end of the transition is that correct ? Are you suggesting there is no caveat in there about the NI border issue ?

bearbehind · 22/03/2018 20:43

The transition won't even commence until NI is sorted.

Hence the fact we're going to end up staying in SM/CU and everything else will go out of the window.

KennDodd · 22/03/2018 20:50

I believe democracy is the most important foundation of society and modern life.

Yes, Putin is a real lover of western democracy as well.

On a serious note. I really am trying to be positive about Brexit, I came over to this thread because I don't want to live in a echo chamber. I also follow Vote Leave and Leave EU on facebook, although the racism on there is just appalling, I try by best to ignore it and just look for the positive.

Anyway, please cheer me up about Brexit, tell me some good news. I'm loosing my job because of Brexit, not until 2019 although this transition deal might mean I keep my job until 2021, hopefully. I meet exporters all the time at work, Brexit rarely comes up because it's not relevant to my visit, when it has there is universal pessimism about it, especially now as contracts beyond March 2019 are becoming very difficult to get signed because buyers just don't know where they stand.

frumpety · 22/03/2018 20:51

Well staying in the CU and SM would solve a lot of Brexit related issues and is what we primarily signed up for. A lot of older Leave voters are often keen to point that out and then complain that it has metamorphasied into something else, so I imagine they wouldn't have an issue with the CU and SM as these are beneficial to the UK .

mummmy2017 · 22/03/2018 20:51

Bear are you like this in real life?
Refusing to accept reality?

bearbehind · 22/03/2018 20:55

I'm not refusing to accept reality, that's your bag mummmy

Unless you can outline an alternative reality where NI can be resolved without staying in SM/CU.

frumpety · 22/03/2018 20:59

The reality is Mummy that it isn't going to happen.

mummmy2017 · 22/03/2018 21:00

You really don't see this is happening do you.
Each little step we take is one towards a deal to get out of SM and CM.
One day you will wake up and see it happened while you were on this site.

LondonMum8 · 22/03/2018 21:04

@GardenGeek. Are we running out of fish in UK waters? If so, is it because of UK rules, or as I have read - the rules have actually ensured/improved sustainability?

Anyway, given the size of the industry, this is clearly a populist tempest in a teapot in the grand scheme of things. I wonder how many people in the UK would be keen to lose their job or take a 100% food prices hike to achieve what basically looks like minor gain in the fishing department at best.

@Mummy2017: can you address actual questions, rather than spew this meaningless "we won haha" mantra. So far it looks like everyone but a few Old Etonians are on track to lose out.

No mummmy , very soon you're going to see I'm right.

It's literally only a matter of time until the u turn on SM/CU happens.

There's no other option.

mummmy2017 · 22/03/2018 21:13

London the EU keep saying no no no.But each time they then suddenly agree to something else we want. They said no trade deals even to be talked about... this is a big back down.
They keep saying NI not sorted do not advance in talks. Then we do.
You don't see it as moving towards leaving as it's not what you want, but it is a move forward. The EU know it has to happen. So will have to help sort it or we could all still have no deal which means no money from UK which they need. Don't kid yourselves on that.....

bearbehind · 22/03/2018 21:14

the EU keep saying no no no.But each time they then suddenly agree to something else we want

mummy could you give one example of that.

One where we haven't paid the price multiple times over.
