This may be the last Brexit Arms thread that I will host.

It was intended to be a non-partisan and relatively light hearted thread for posters on both sides of the divide, but unfortunately this seems to have proved impossible so far.

It is not supposed to be a place for the disgruntled Remainer to use as an outlet to abuse and kick out at their perceived enemy.

I will give it one last go in the hope that things will change.

So.... onwards to Brexit....

Then leave Hull and go to where the work is ......

Sorry but if you think that Brexit will magically bring jobs into areas that currently lack them, you are in for a VERY nasty shock.

South Wales is full of people whose families moved there for the mining and steel work but stayed when the work left.

Hull is the same - it needs to shrink down to the size that its economy will support.

The old manual jobs are gone - on a worldwide basis - Brexit will not bring them back

Bear,
Can I ask did you see this lunchtime's Daily Politics, I did,
Rebecca Long Bailey MP, Labour, said
We are in a strong position, as country to negotiate a strong, bespoke deal with the EU, we are close friends and the 6th largest nation, economy wise.
The Tory MP also said the same, became a bit of a bunfight, over who's was stronger policy.
Nigel Farage, MEP, thought both parties had odd sensible ideas, but where generally "fucking it up". He would say that.
So are you saying now both Rebecca Long Bailey and T May/David Davies are all lying/living in cloud cuckoo land.
Or do you think the UK/EU might end up with this bespoke deal, so impossible for remainers to beleive

TalkinPeace · 26/02/2018 18:31

This bespoke deal will be within the parameters set by the EU
(because they have to comply with their own legislation)

if there is Customs Union it will come with the four freedoms
if there is EFTA basis it will come with contributions
if there is no customs union, there will be no passporting rights

The UK cannot "cherry pick"
the deal will be bespoke, within very tight limits

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 18:33

No i didn't see it user but why are you so willing to rely on what a few people say compared to all the facts and evidence that indicate otherwise?

That's aside from the fact you can't trust a word TM says given the number of u-turns she's already done, most notably her repeated insistence there would be no GE.

As for DD, he has lied about the Brexit impact studies so I truly don't understand why you'd believe a word he says.

There's also a world of difference between a 'strong bespoke deal' and the Leavers assertion we can continue as we are without the bits we don't like.

We can theoretically get a deal that involves us having frictionless trade with the EU and reducing FOM.

The 2 enormous stumbling blocks are we will need to pay through the nose for it and will have to continue to abide by rules we no longer have a say in.

Mistigri · 26/02/2018 18:35

So are you saying now both Rebecca Long Bailey and T May/David Davies are all lying/living in cloud cuckoo land.

Obviously.

It's so fucking obvious that it's even obvious to the half-witted Farage.

The problem is that both parties want fundamentally incompatible things out of brexit, and they are both sufficiently dishonest to promise these incompatible things to an electorate that is completely ignorant of the issues, and which for the most part is heartily sick of brexit.

frumpety · 26/02/2018 18:42

User would your Dad still have thought re-training an option if doing so meant a £50,000 debt at the end of 4 years ?

And please remove the great big fat chip from off your shoulder and stop with the thick northerner thing . The north boasts some fabulous universities , is the birth place of some of the greatest musicians and bands this country has ever known ( possible slight bias there ) , has some of the best scenery and the people are second to known ( definite bias there ) Grin

user1471450935 · 26/02/2018 18:44

Bear,
I can't win earlier I told you how proud I was of Siemens in Hull and the £855 million investment and hope for brexit.
You asked how EU policy effected northerners cities, then demanded I answer, I did, with a direct personal effect. No thanks, No I stuck in the past
Actually no I am not, you and your fellow remainers are, I voted remain, was defeated fairly, moved on and found positives. You asked for the past.
See we are back to the "wealthy" southerners telling northerners to abandon their homes. M Heseltine had that plan in Mrs Thatcher's government, even he now admits it was wrong.
By the way Hull population has dropped for the last 4 decades, only since 2006, has it grown, by 2%, by immigration, mainly EU too.
Are you saying we shouldn't have freedom of movement then Talkin, as Hull was following your best practice, until Blair's reforms?

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 18:49

user your arguments make no sense.

You can't explain why the situation in Hull or other cities is the fault of the EU as opposed to our own governments, or, more importantly, how it will change outside the EU.

You can't explain what evidence there is that life is suddenly going to improve for these cities by leaving the EU.

You just strike me as someone who prefers to try and keep the peace and is willing to forsake their own views for what they perceive to be an easier life.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/02/2018 18:50

The Tories have lifted many low paid people out of tax, they continued to raise the minimum wage.*

No they haven't.*

Errr - yes they have.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/02/2018 18:51

DGRossetti
Remind me again, when is your operation to remove your head from your arse?

Hopefully soon Surfer 🙏

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 18:53

^^ And yet Leavers have the audacity to claim it's Remainers who bandy around all the insults on these threads Hmm

That one was not only ridiculously childish, it was completely unnecessary.

As for faith bringing it up again and applauding it, I expect no better.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/02/2018 18:53

Frumpety,
I don't know, he didn't go to a university, he went to Hull College of Higher Education, one of the 1st males to attend a all lady NUN led course. The men couldn't live on college grounds, in case they corrupted the lady students Smile
Eldest has just done student finance and will go in September, 1st to attend a proper university, even though it's roots go back to HCHE
As for thick northerners, I am just playing up to your fellow southern remainers, who obviously think northerners are thick/pointless or they wouldn't keep telling me to abandon Hull.

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 18:55

I wasn't talking about your emojis faith, just the fact you found it necessary to praise surfer on such a pathetic comment.

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 18:56

As for your latest picture, it doesn't even make any sense.

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 18:59

This is how ethical your beloved leader is Hmm

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/02/2018 19:00

I didn't praise Surfer Confused - I prayed that head would be removed from arse soon.

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 19:02

Just when I thought things had got better and you were actually engaging in the discussion faith, you revert to type.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 26/02/2018 19:02

*The Tories have lifted many low paid people out of tax, they continued to raise the minimum wage.

Errr - yes they have.

Poorest pay higher taxes than richest, new figures show

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/02/2018 19:02

Who's your beloved leader Bear?

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 19:03

I don't have one faith, mores the pity.

user1471450935 · 26/02/2018 19:04

Bear,
Okay, I make no sense, good way not to have to answer my questions.
Seems your not to different from the leavers, you claim never answer questions.
So here is a starter for 10, as they say on university challenge, I have watched it too,
What plans did the EU, and therefore your government, have to improve Hull, we got City of Culture, but that was UK based, so not EU's idea, as you say all our problems are UK based
I will accept just one EU plan
