This may be the last Brexit Arms thread that I will host.

It was intended to be a non-partisan and relatively light hearted thread for posters on both sides of the divide, but unfortunately this seems to have proved impossible so far.

It is not supposed to be a place for the disgruntled Remainer to use as an outlet to abuse and kick out at their perceived enemy.

I will give it one last go in the hope that things will change.

So.... onwards to Brexit....

You can post handy links all you like Ghost - it doesn't change the fact that the following statement is correct:

The Tories have lifted many low paid people out of tax, they continued to raise the minimum wage.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 26/02/2018 19:15

Hull wins £4.8 million in EU funding

University of Hull to lead a €3.8m Europe-wide project investigating sustainability and waste minimisation

Problem is Faith you never provide any sources to back up your claims. Other leave posters here are the same.

This is a spreadsheet of funding for Hull projects.

The bigger issue is that the whole country including Hull will be poorer and have less opportunities following Brexit. Ironically the the areas which backed Brexit stand to lose more than areas such as London according to the government analysis.

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 19:28

user I'm happy to answer question you pose however, your last one made absolutely no sense to me.

The EU don't have to make plans to improve Hull, are you honestly saying they have to make plans for every town and city within the 28 member countries?

If you reword it so that it does make sense, I'll happily answer.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 26/02/2018 19:29

Surfer, different spellings. Source/sauce. Or is that an EU conspiracy?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/02/2018 19:32

lol - even Jezza realised that he was proposing the much derided 'cake' approach to Brexit! 😂😂

Ghost,
Great,
Reading Hull uni link, it says the 3.8 million is EU wide, leading to 15 highly skilled workers based in our partner universities, including Holland, Nigeria, China.
Hull City council and a Hull based charity,EMS, will also be involved.
So we get some of 3.8 million, someone said Crown paints 15m was peanuts, and possibly 15 new jobs, though off course they could be in Holland/ Nigeria or China.
But thanks EU, 15 possible jobs to replace 650 highly skilled Birdseye jobs to paid to move elsewhere.
I am overwhelmed my their generosity.
Can't open ITV link.

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 19:35

faith your logic is completely flawed too.

Why do you see JC's approach as 'cake' but TM's as completely viable?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/02/2018 19:38

I'm 100% behind going for the cake approach - I've never pretended otherwise.

It is the remoaner collective & Labour that kept dissing it.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 26/02/2018 19:38

user, it proves Hull isn't some forgotten place. Yes, some places have more opportunities than others but as has been pointed out Hull's problems are UK made.

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 19:39

So how does that fit in with your 'we have to compromise' narrative from earlier faith?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/02/2018 19:40

Problem is Faith you never provide any sources to back up your claims. Other leave posters here are the same.

If it's such a problem, then perhaps start your own 'Links & sources only!" thread, and stop spamming these ones.

Desperatelyseekingsun · 26/02/2018 19:40

faith both main parties are headed up by people who are very lukewarm about the EU and prepared to aim for cake solutions albeit for different reasons. This doesn't make cake a sensible or indeed possible solution, neither does it mean these solutions are backed by the majority of either party.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 26/02/2018 19:41

its not spamming, its providing evidence to back up my claims. Posting endless pictures and emojis is spamming.

user1471450935 · 26/02/2018 19:44

Bear,
Why do you like Corbyn's plan, but dismiss May's Smile
Also if it's not up to the EU to plan to help Hull, why 30 years too late, has it given us £4,8 million to find us jobs.
When it indirectly funded the removal of 2000 jobs.
It's bloody stupid.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/02/2018 19:45

So how does that fit in with your 'we have to compromise' narrative from earlier faith?

How does it not?
I'm sure there will be compromise from both sides.

But why would we go into the negotiations with already reduced & narrow aims, begging for scraps?
That makes no sense.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/02/2018 19:46

its not spamming, its providing evidence to back up my claims. Posting endless pictures and emojis is spamming.

If you bombard a lighthearted pub thread with boringness, then it is indeed spamming.

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 19:47

I've had a bit of an epiphany following users posts.

There are actually some people out there who genuinely believe that anything the EU didn't resolve is the fault of the EU, even if it had nothing to do with the EU in the first place.

The possibilities for that are endless.

  • Failing your exams is the EU's fault because they didn't help you revise.
  • Committing adultery is the EUs fault because they didn't offer to satisfy you themselves
  • stealing a car is the EUs fault because they didn't tell you not to.
GhostofFrankGrimes · 26/02/2018 19:48

user, globalisation will still exist post Brexit. So multi national companies will still come and go as the market dictates. It just so happens that Brexit will be a more difficult and less desirable place to set up shop.

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 19:49

Why do you like Corbyn's plan, but dismiss May's

I don't like Corbyns plan but it's more realistic than Mays.

No CU is not compatible with no hard border.

What part of that don't you understand user?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 26/02/2018 19:50

f you bombard a lighthearted pub thread with boringness, then it is indeed spamming.

its only boring to those with closed minds.

Start your own Very Serious Thread if you don't like this one.

I fucking love this thread. It an ocean of Brexit ignorance.

bearbehind · 26/02/2018 19:51

But why would we go into the negotiations with already reduced & narrow aims, begging for scraps?

Because we're not at the point of stating our aspirations anymore.

That's over.

We need an actual plan now yet you're waiting to form your opinion based on the scraps TM throws at you on Friday in her speech.

user1471450935 · 26/02/2018 19:56

Ghost'
Hull was forgotten, then we voted in a Liberal Democratic council, which with the 2 Tory councillors, started free school meals for primary school kids, got rid by Labour once back in power. they also started, the renewal by selling off last of Kingston Communications.
Labour had to up it's game, then lately people turned to, sadly BNP Angry and Sad, and then UKIP. The council and local business groups used Siemens and City of Culture to try and kick start city.
If not forgotten, how come Labour/Tory/EU have allowed a major northern city to decline since 1945, and end up in 2017, with 1 in 4 (25%) of cities kids in poverty and 8000 kids never leaving it's boundaries.
Sorry but if that's something to be proud of from 40 years membership of EU, I think I can live without it
