To think this could mean the end of brexit?

Now MPs will be able to block it. Could this be the end of this ridiculous brexit? MPs can not vote for something that they think will not be in peoples interest and its very clear the people that voted to brexit would be the ones worse off.

JO'B is doing a fab job on LBC today and most brexiters seem to be happy that it might not go ahead as they were fooled by lies!

Great, his followers have increased slightly today. Apparently his proposal is up for a vote on Monday, and if passed then goes before all MEPs in December. Yes I guess we all should be lobbying MEPs as well as social media support for Charles, at least trying to do something....

CruCru · 17/11/2016 23:21

Lovely, I'll email my MEP tomorrow.

Petronius16 · 18/11/2016 08:37

Don't have facebook. Idea looks good, but not sure how it works.

If it's for UK citizens living in Europe, that makes sense.

For us in the UK, once we leave we'll be living in a foreign country in relation to the EU. Can't see how such a law could be implemented here without government approval. Or have I missed something?

Peregrina · 18/11/2016 09:24

The plan is you pay a fee to retain EU citizenship, and it was for citizens of all countries which left. I don't see how the UK Government could stop it, except perhaps take your UK citizenship away, which would be difficult if a lot of people signed up.

Offred · 18/11/2016 09:31

It would work similarly to how dual citizenship now.

Petronius16 · 18/11/2016 17:01

Thank you both, the dual citizenship makes sense, thanks.

Ha, peregina, I thought earlier that I need to make sure I write to my MP re this vote...I guess my letter will just add to Nicola Blackwood's pile of unopened mail Angry

Peregrina · 18/11/2016 17:46

Nicola Blackwood, yes. I assume that she was just hitting the delete button when she got my emails, so yesterday rewarded her with a three page letter by post. I reminded her that Robert Courts in Witney had managed to lose 19,000 Conservative votes and suggested that she reflected upon her own majority.

Secretspillernamechange · 18/11/2016 18:00

Well we've got a good lib dem option when the GE happens!

lonelyplanetmum · 18/11/2016 18:31

Just wanted to say that whilst writing to your MP about Article 50 why not drop a line to your MEP or Charles Goerens himself supporting his proposal (depending on who your MEP is of course!).Smile

amaravatti · 18/11/2016 19:00

Done, thanks

Peregrina · 18/11/2016 19:18

Done that too. Although with a couple of MEPs, namely Hannan and Farage, it will be a waste of time.

Peregrina · 18/11/2016 19:19

i.e. I didn't waste time writing to Farage and Hannan - although Hannan expected to stay in the single market and have freedom of movement.

CruCru · 20/11/2016 11:49

Okay, I've just emailed my MEP.

"Dear Mr Moraes

I understand that there is a proposal to allow UK citizens to remain associate citizens of the EU in return for a fee.

I am very much against leaving the EU and would be grateful if you would support any proposal that would allow U.K. citizens to remain part of the EU.

Yours sincerely"

lonelyplanetmum · 20/11/2016 16:45

Let's hope the letter writing helps.Charles Goerens's followers on Twitter have increased by about 500 over the last week. The official debate is tomorrow so we will see how it is received and the extent of support and opposition from other MEPs. I suppose any other member state with a significant anti EU presence in the electorate may support the proposal as it would be of future benefit their citizens as well, if they find themselves in the same mess we are in!
