Boris outmaneovered. Et tu Gove & Corbyn? The Westministenders Hunger Games Continues

RedToothBrush · 01/07/2016 12:08

Following the Machiavellian Govian shambles? Utterly gobsmacked at the Labour clusterfuck?

Who will strike next?

Who will the shadowy hand of Osborne back?
Can Gove be launched back into space and back to the planet he came from?
Can May save the country from almost certain doom?
Will Leadsom patronise us all to death (whilst silently stabbing people in the back with a sweet smile)?
Can Johnson make a decision he can stick to, and can we persuade him to give up being a politician?
Will Steven Crabb get rid of that god awful beard?

Will Corbyn shoot himself in the other foot?
Will Angela Eagle get a spine and just stand?
Who the fuck is Owen Smith?
Will the Blairites be foiled and damned?
Are momentum a bunch of thugs or a force for a better, for the people?

Will Farage disappear back under his rock?
Will people wake up to Arron Banks?
What will Dominic Cummings destroy next?

Have we seen a coup d'état?
How do we improve democracy and representation?

All these questions and more.
Sense of humour compulsory. No experience necessary though

Hmm, Crabb is saying some reasonable things about this issue.

DoinItFine · 03/07/2016 20:45

They are all bastards.

But I'm trying to avoid disgust responses and respond with my brain.

Crabb is right to offer that.

I can support him on this point, and not May.

Chalalala · 03/07/2016 20:52

It's good to be reminded that May is a nasty piece of work. Gove made her look quite good there for a minute, but she's still who she is.

howabout · 03/07/2016 20:53

tbf I think I am correct in saying that even Farage has always said current EU migrants should have their UK residency protected.

Chalalala · 03/07/2016 20:53

Although to be fair there is also nothing stopping the EU from unilaterally deciding to maintain the rights of all the Brits abroad. They should.

rookiemere · 03/07/2016 21:00

Unlike the referendum we don't get a choice on the new Tory PM.

Probably just as well as it seems like a choice between Bad or Badder.
Crabb is not going to happen.

Brexiteers/some of the press are pushing Leadsom, will be terrifying interesting to see how much influence they have.

May seems like the least bad option.

GingerIvy · 03/07/2016 21:06

I'd be shocked if Crabb won (thank god - the "brought myself up by my bootstraps from living on a council estate" kind always seem to have the least amount of concern for the vulnerable).

Sadly, May does seem the least bad option. Which isn't really saying much for her, is it?

DoinItFine · 03/07/2016 21:07

It's good to be reminded that May is a nasty piece of work. Gove made her look quite good there for a minute, but she's still who she is.

TOTALLY

I don't know what came over me.

Human rights denier May seemed like the best choice.

I'm back to Crabb, I think.

And this one too!

Globetrotter100 · 03/07/2016 21:14

Am also horrified that May looked like a great candidate for a minute. It's just desensitization to crap choices I guess, or a bit...

3...2...1...and you're back in the room Grin

howabout · 03/07/2016 21:15

Red interesting research and thoughts re Switzerland. The trade with the UK stuck out for me. I think there is room for us to strike a deal with the Gnomes of Zurich and US on the Basel International Banking accords and cut the EU banking sector out of the picture altogether. Sometimes having a bit of the Gove about you is no bad thing when considering your negotiating stance.

Frenchish DH has gone to read his book cos the team are already 4 goals up. His top tip for UK Brexit negotiator is Zac Goldsmith.

NotDavidTennant · 03/07/2016 21:18

It's all well and good unilaterally declaring that EU citizens will have a right to remain in the UK, but if what if the EU member states refuse to reciprocate? You've already given away your best bit of leverage to get them to change their position.

Everything has to be considered up for negotiation at this point.

Arborea · 03/07/2016 21:20

Farage has always said current EU migrants should have their UK residency protected - I'm sure that it's entirely coincidental that he's married to a German national Hmm

Felascloak · 03/07/2016 21:21

missmoon thanks for that article. Love Nick Clegg, it's such a shame the LDs got such a kicking in the last election.
At least if we'd had another round of ConDem (or even LabDem) we wouldn't be in this stupid situation now.

SugarPlumTree · 03/07/2016 21:21

As I said earlier, i've bern watching the Good Wife to distract myself. Am currently paused midway through am episode which is paused to Google a term used - [http://consciouslifenews.com/paid-internet-shill-shadowy-groups-manipulate-internet-opinion-debate/1147073/ Internet Shill]]

I found the above article i've linked. No idea if it is true but I think it is interesting in light of our discussion about the leave campaign and worth a quick read. A bit down the rabbit hole it must be said but these days i'm finding it pays to have an open mind. I've come a long way from. Being open mouthed at the whole Judge Flounce episode. Back to my Good Wife episode !

Felascloak · 03/07/2016 21:22

I'm sure that it's entirely coincidental that he's married to a German national
Maybe that's May's plan to get him out of the UK! Grin

DoinItFine · 03/07/2016 21:55

You've already given away your best bit of leverage to get them to change their position.

People's lives are not "leverage".

Also, anyone going into these negotiations thinking our best leverage is cruelty to people who have chosen to live in our country, is not up to the job.

You make your position look weak by holding on to such pathetic chips.

You walk into a negotiation looking stronger for making it clear beforehand you have more to offer than being shit to little people under your power.

Chalalala · 03/07/2016 22:35

On a somewhat related note, Facebook is being super creepy. Since the referendum it's only been showing me ads for immigration lawyers. It just showed me an ad promising to get me a "secure" status in Australia Confused

Clearly there's an algorithm somewhere that thinks it's not in the bag for EU citizens.

user1458394949 · 03/07/2016 22:36

Usually I just read posts on MN, but have finally logged in for the first time as I LOVE these threads and have read through the entirety of them all so far.

Just saw that May's Tory support has gone up to 104. I read somewhere that if it hits 111, she will automatically be crowned the winner. Hopefully that means the uncertainty over PM will be swift.

Then over to the Labour mess...

user1458394949 · 03/07/2016 22:38

Apologies for the odd username, I thought they had assigned one to me, but obviously not yet! Will try and correct before I next post here.

DoinItFine · 03/07/2016 22:38

Clearly there's an algorithm somewhere that thinks it's not in the bag for EU citizens.

LOL

Nope, there's an algorithm that knows that you don't think it's in the bag.

Chalalala · 03/07/2016 22:47

DoinItFine That's where they're wrong though, I'm not actually worried for myself. Maybe the algorithm is misinterpreting my altruistic concern for my fellow immigrants. Strange, usually its ads for potty training pretty much read my mind.

user1458394949 don't apologise, that's one of the sexier usernames I've come across!

DoinItFine · 03/07/2016 22:54

Maybe it thinks your altruistic concern might extend to finding them immigration lawyers? Grin

Boris Johnson's former campaign manager Ben Wallace says 'Michael seems to have an emotional need to gossip, particularly when drink is taken, as it all too often seemed to be'.

Oooof it's getting a bit Mapp and Lucia between them in the bitching stakes.
