According to Laura Kuenssberg

Conservative sources have told the BBC ministers are trying to persuade Michael Gove to drop out of the Conservative leadership contest.

The strategy emerging among some ministers is to make sure Theresa May wins the first ballot of MPs hands down - and then everyone would unite around the home secretary so they don't have to hold a membership vote.

Michael Gove scares me.
Complete lack of applause here.
Focus on immigration and no free movement.
Trying to live up to the leave campaign promises. Terrifying.

TheBathroomSink · 01/07/2016 11:26

Louise Mensch. Ugh.

Felascloak · 01/07/2016 11:27

"Listen and treat each other with respect".
Gove is well known for doing that with teachers Angry or experts generally.

RedToothBrush · 01/07/2016 11:27

The United Kingdom is a family.
As a family you listen to each other and respect each other.

Words. Failing me.

And in the Red corner Shami weighs in: Anti-semitism chief blasts 'misrepresentation' of Corbyn

Gove playing the Unionist card big - I'm not buying. He just has absolutely no credibility no matter how reasonable he sounds after the last 24 hours.

howabout · 01/07/2016 11:30

Home ownership! It was his bright idea to attack housing associations to get the Torys over the line at the GE Angry

Fawful · 01/07/2016 11:30

Same here UnGoogleable, loved 'cunt du jour'! Grin

Chalalala · 01/07/2016 11:34

I don't think the "conspiracy to not trigger Article 50" narrative will work very well against Theresa May. Regardless of her many faults, she comes across as honest and straightforward, not as a sneaky conspirator. I feel that non-extremist Tory Leavers will trust her to deliver.

Gove needs to crawl into a hole and never surface again.

Felascloak · 01/07/2016 11:34

Shareholders need more control over how public companies operate. Fantastic idea. Shareholders have worked wonders for my company (sarcasm).

Oh Ffs. Can we really have this level of social change and privatisation foisted on us without a GE? How is this OK?

I'm getting really depressed.

RedToothBrush · 01/07/2016 11:37

This man just makes me want to invoke Godwin.
Every word he says.

CUNT ARSE BOLLOCK ARSEWIPE FUCKNUGGET COCKWOMBLE

Summary of his speech so far:
I think I'm god. Listen to me. My word and opinion is law. I am the candidate for change. The 1984 Goveworld vision. The end.

TheBathroomSink · 01/07/2016 11:39

So, is Gove's theory to bore everyone to death? It isn't very dynamic, is it?

howabout · 01/07/2016 11:41

Anyone else joining in with #Govesongs?

Reginald D Hunter @reginalddhunter
Once upon a time there was light in my life #GoveSongs
But now there's only Gove in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart

RedToothBrush · 01/07/2016 11:42

Michael Gove's leadership speech is 4,913 words long

That's a manifesto.

If he gets in, I do seriously think we have had a coup d'état and a government vision no one voted for.

howabout · 01/07/2016 11:43

Shot through the heart and Gove's to blame. Gove gives love a bad name.

Fawful · 01/07/2016 11:43

'I will end free movement, introduce an Australian-style points system and bring numbers down. With my leadership, it will be delivered.'

LurkingHusband · 01/07/2016 11:44

Michael Gove's leadership speech is 4,913 words long

The Gettysburg Address was 272 ...

TheBathroomSink · 01/07/2016 11:44

Doesn't state what he'll bring it down to though, does he.

Chalalala · 01/07/2016 11:47

I can only hope Tory members have had enough radical change for the time being, and will go with "safe pair of hands" over "let's finish the destruction job and start rebuilding a neoliberal paradise over the fuming rubble".

This is terrifying. He is terrifying. He even looks like he belongs in the 1930s. (steering dangerously close to Godwin so I'll stop here)

RedToothBrush · 01/07/2016 11:50

Yes, Godwin. So Godwin.
I had Farage cast into the role of Hitler. I was wrong. God I was soooooo wrong. This fucker has even written his own version of a modern day Mein Kampf.

Just fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

I'm happy to sum it all up for you.

Bollocks.

Felascloak · 01/07/2016 11:52

Sorry, had a MN advert incident and didn't think it'd posted first time

TheBathroomSink · 01/07/2016 11:56

"We have got to be realistic, Scotland voted differently and that has to respected. If you want a prime minister who understands and believes in Scotland... then I can do that."

um, that sounds like he could be saying he wouldn't fight for Scotland to stay.
