I voted remain. I'm ashamed of brin British right now.

We had a Right Wing group come to Liverpool, they had apparently marched through other cities.

They were met at the train station by a majority of White (not that, that should matter) anti-Fascism protesters, they didn't make it out of the Station and had to get back into the train.

On the second attempt the behaviour by the Police meant that they made over the road and were allowed to pull up cobbles around St Georges hall (and the War Memorial) and throw them at people (seriously injuring a few people). They didn't get to marching level, though.

We need to get involved with counter acting these demonstrations/comments and although we have the right to protest, if those opposing cause enough of a threat of disturbance, then it will be legally disbanded.

Although why the last demonstration were allowed to make threats and cause criminal damage/GBH, still hasn't been fully answered.

On St Georges Day, I commented on every FB post that had the George Cross on that they were marvellous for making fuss of a Syrian born Saint that is recognised throughout the Muslim World. The whole post then disappeared, oddly enough.

Just to add, we now all need to put in place "that if we're not part of the solution, then we're part of the problem. No isn't a time for Silence, it's the Silence that is costly.

Apology accepted :) i really was just asking and im very glad people like you exist. Thank you. I didnt realise my username would cause offence it was the one given to me. I have actually been on mumsnet for years but forgot my sign in details as they were programmed into my old phone and needed a new account so just signed up. I cant see how to change my name on here but I will try again later. Peppaismyhomegirl is my old name if anyone needs proof.
As for needing stats on my comment, im not sure where you would like me to produce those from? Bur I can give you my personal experience. I know people who voted leave, they are lovely, well rounded people and i enjoy listening to their opinions. We move on and are still friends. I don't begrudge them their difference of opinion at all. It's actually very interesting.
Every Britain's first sharing, daily mail quoting "send them back" person I've delated off my social media was very vocal and goady about leaving.

So every person I know who is racist voted leave, but not all leave voters are racist.

And I agree with the pp. Now is not the time to be silent about the hate. The more people stand up to it the better. It will get better if we all do it

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 26/06/2016 13:45

I really liked your post, Ouriana, I think it's absolutely the case.

Also agreeing with user1466690252 that we need to be challenging and standing up to racism wherever and whenever we see it. I will do that.

I know it in terms of the people I know, and the pictures shown above yes. But it's strange you keep coming after me needing to know the stats? Do they those pictures speak for themselves? Would you like me to say there are nice racistst out there who want no Borders and welcome different cultures with open arms? Because I've never met one of those?

Any incident of racial abuse is disgusting and totally unacceptable however to suggest the perpetrators represent the British let alone the Leaver's is offensive and ridiculous.

I voted remain but am still ok with the result - as I mentioned in another thread I'm choosing to believe Martin Lewis and his moderate and sensible view of the fact we are to leave the Eu. He is trustworthy and knowledgable.

Filosofikal · 26/06/2016 14:59

BTW - none of the people I know who voted to leave are racist or stupid although, admittedly I don't know many. My MIL is an immigrant and she voted leave.

NewLife4Me · 26/06/2016 15:12

I know some Polish immigrants who voted leave.
They came here for a better life and got one.
They don't like the Romanians being here and think it's all gone too far now, they have been here for about 9 years and have 2 children one Polish the other British.
They are ready to sell their business and prefer it to go to an English buyer.

I can see both sides of the argument and so glad I couldn't call between the two, because then I would have had to have voted, something I am against as prefer a referendum result not to be in my name.
I am sorry for those who will lose jobs, or have to leave the country, a recession or any other negative issues that come from this. but also glad that there will be improvements eventually and will all calm down.
I still won't vote if there is another referendum.
I'm neither thick nor lazy, just not interested.

smallfox1980 · 26/06/2016 15:27

There might be some Polish wanting to leave but justifying it with they don't likeep Romanians being here just proves that there are bigots of every nationality.

Well said Whatatotalmess.

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 26/06/2016 16:43

"I know some Polish immigrants who voted leave."
They're British if they voted, so how are they still immigrants?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 26/06/2016 16:44

Time to disengage, there's just no point posting trying to be reasonable. Thankfully MN isn't indicative of RL behaviour.
