Dh was in in the local shop yesterday, with the 2 DC, who are 8 and 7, just after school, so about half three. The shop is ran by an Asian family, and some drunken fool wandered in and shouted at the man behind the counter "yay, we voted leave, now fuck off out of our country"
I myself voted remain, however, I do not for one second think that all those that voted leave are racist, the vast majority of the British Public are tolerant, leave or remain, HOWEVER what this seems to have done, for the minority (and oh how I hope it is a small tiny minority, but I worry not) of those intolerant bigots is give them free reign to shout their intolerance to the world as they now believe they have a legitimised allowed viewpoint. A legitimised hatred.
Something does need to happen. I am genuinely saddened we voted leave, it is not what I wanted, but it is done. What is done is done. We need to come together to stop the bigots and not allow it to stand.
If you voted leave, for whatever reason, you can say in life why you voted leave for any number of valid reasons, but not on the ballot paper. It is simply a vote for leave. But that leads to be the leave vote being hijacked by groups like BNP or Britain First and their ilk and supporters, as they can start spouting, "oh look 52% of the population want to take our country back from the foreigners blah blah blah" Now that is clearly not correct. But they dont care. It is just a figure they can use to try and legitimise their "cause"
