To not be able to speak to my near neighbours who voted leave?

TooMuchCoffeeMakesMeZoom · 24/06/2016 23:43

My children's future has been put at stake. Our economy risks ruin. Our relatively -well-off neighbours in a place with nearly full employment and very low recent immigration (local care companies and NHS are desperate for staff) have voted leave. They are only around fifty.

I'm gobsmacked.

The irony is that the small business they are in is affected by the growth of China as an economic powerhouse. So why on earth do they feel that leaving the EU gives them more power? It gives them less.

I am so angry and feel so let down by my country. These people, and people like them ahem destroyed my hopes for a continued peace in Europe.

How on earth am I expected to talk to them on an equal footing, knowing what they have done through their own greed?

I don't speak to racists, I just avoid them. I say a brief hello to the racists at work, but that's as far as it goes. I haven't thought less of anyone that voted leave because I already didn't like them. All my lovely friends voted remain.

How mature.

Unless everyone declares how they have voted (and if they are even telling you the truth) you have no idea.

Keep living in you naive world.

truevoice · 25/06/2016 19:14

All my lovely friends voted remain ySounds like you think very highly of yourselves, nothing political. Just self-regarding and smug.

truevoice · 25/06/2016 19:15

Full of pride too. The ultimate "sin"

NameChanger22 · 25/06/2016 19:23

I have lovely friends. There's nothing smug about that, why would I have horrible racist friends?

Brexit · 25/06/2016 21:11

Why indeed.

But do you really know your friends?

OhNoNotMyBaby · 25/06/2016 21:23

Our Portuguese neighbour voted Brexit, like a turkey voting for Christmas. ....Although it's nice to get on with neighbours, it's really just for passing the time of day with and I think my neighbour is stupid

I could seriously weep at the utter horror, stupidity and small-mindedness of this awful post. Why, why, why are Brexiters getting such a bad time when posts like this illustrate the sheer awfulness of Remainers who seriously believe they are the intelligent ones?

rainbowstardrops · 25/06/2016 21:40

Ffs people! Have a glass of wine and give your heads a wobble!

We live in a county that embraces democracy. That ultimately means that sometimes people will vote differently to you!!!!
If doesn't make 'them' right and you wrong or you right and 'them' wrong - it's DEMOCRACY!!!!

All the bloody doomsayers are doing my fricking head in now.

Nobody and I stress NOBODY has a crystal ball that can say what will definitely happen.

Just chill the fuck out until you know for certain it's all going tits up.

Basicbrown · 25/06/2016 22:08

I cannot believe the arrogance of labelling those who voted leave as thick.

The intelligent people that I know recognise there are advantages and disadvantages to each way. Leave has opportunities as does remain whichever way you voted.

Have you read the article?! The answers in the question. The leavers have just handed a perpetual mandate to the extreme right of the Tory party. Do tell me how that's going to improve the lot of the working man. Seriously.

Theimpossiblegirl · 26/06/2016 01:16

The people of Ebbw Vale (and many other similar places) weren't voting leave per se, they were voting for change. I'm a remainer but completely get where they were coming from. We need to think beyond our own feelings and find a way to move forward together, or basically we're screwed.

mrsglowglow · 26/06/2016 01:25

Oh because they've had such a cushy time for the last 25 years why would they or anyone wish to rock the boat and spoil it for everyone else? Yeah some lovely buildings have been built how dare they be ungrateful? Your response just highlights the rift in our country that is now at least being addressed.

What a ridiculous thing to say OP.

mrsglowglow · 26/06/2016 01:42

omg retrorobot shame on you really is all I can say. Pandered to? One of the biggest steel and mining areas until the 1970's and then living with high unemployment for decades and left behind while millions in the UK prospered. And then having to listen to people like you tell them it's their own doing. Please get off you high horse because you've lost any moral high ground.

BessieBraddocksEgg · 26/06/2016 01:54

So you live in an area with few prospects and probably poor schooling and are deemed to be "pandered to" OK..

Scum English Chavs? OMG. Are you for real retro?

MangoMoon · 26/06/2016 02:37

However, I see threads being opened here claiming that we should not be allowed to call scum English chavs what they are because it is classism.

It's a fucking atrocious phrase, and shows up the person using it as the sort of condescending, nasty, bitchy, superior, sneering, foul, snobby cunt that they are.

HTH!

MangoMoon · 26/06/2016 02:38

Go and sob about that to someone who actually gives a fuck.
