Just thought I would start a thread for anyone who has applied for a place at BRIT school

OKmum · 09/02/2023 11:49

Thanks for this @Nunsmet22
Will I get to sit at the interview with DD? I thought it was only her. She does not share any of my concerns of course about long commuting daily. Natural given her age and lack of experience, and another thing for me to worry about.

Nunsmet22 · 09/02/2023 12:16

At least one parent/carer is required to be in the interview (not in the workshop) for KS4 @OKmum . From what I've heard, the school journey is often discussed during the interview as kids apply from far afield and the school want to make sure there's an arrangement in place that's sustainable.

OKmum · 09/02/2023 12:34

Well that's good to know, thanks again @Nunsmet22 !
I'm hoping commute to the workshop will help her get a feel for the commitment she'd need to make, though unlikely to deter her as so motivated.

Pegjes44 · 09/02/2023 14:33

Hi, @OKmum Well Done for the audition invite.
We are in North London (Edmonton), I think it takes around 45 minutes by Tube & Train. If he get in i can drop him to the nearest Tube station so he should be fine.

Filthycop · 09/02/2023 20:02

we live within walking distance and DS was still asked how he would get to school.

They don't give any allowances for long journeys/cancelled trains/strikes etc as DS has a lot of friends who travel a long way and struggle with issues and are regularly in trouble for lateness and days missed due to travel issues. Some have family members closer who can put them up when strikes are due - some stay with friends for strike days.

They will ask questions about favourite and least favourite subjects at school other than the strand you are interested it. How you cope with your least favourite (eg if you hate French, how to you manage to study, which study skills do you have etc) they want to know that you will be committed to the GCSEs not just the strand subject ,

DS is Y11 Theatre and is doing well - he has his audition for KS5/6th form on 1 March (workshop then audition) - were hoping that this isn't the end of his Brit journey - he is passionate about the school, it does get under your skin and you do become evangelical about it - even as a parent.

Nunsmet22 · 09/02/2023 23:38

Thanks so much @Filthycop , that's super helpful.
Keeping all fingers crossed for your DS on 1st March!!!

Daffodils23 · 10/02/2023 10:40

Hi, my daughter has applied for the VAD strand KS4. She has submitted her portfolio but we are waiting to hear whether she'll be invited for interview. Anyone else applying for VAD strand?

Dontwanttowaitanymore · 10/02/2023 14:33

My DD has also applied for VAD, KS4. We've heard nothing since sending in the portfolio.

Kezza197 · 20/02/2023 14:39

My child has a KS4 VAD workshop and interview on 1 March. Anyone else’s child going too?

Daffodils23 · 20/02/2023 21:10

@Kezza197 - hope it goes well! My DD had VAD workshop and interview booked for 2nd March but it has been put back a few weeks due to the strikes. So frustrating!

Kezza197 · 20/02/2023 21:18

That’s so frustrating! Thanks for the good wishes, hope it goes well for your DD too!

truelove · 27/02/2023 16:07

DS had his MT audition today. Song and dance went well but he messed up the monologue a few times. Hopefully they will take nerves into account! It looked like there were auditions happening for all the performing arts strands today. Now we have the agonising wait to see if he’s in. BRIT have 2 weeks’ half term coming up after this week so I don’t expect to hear anything until after the holidays. Good luck to those of you with auditions/workshops coming up soon.

Hi when is your DD theatre stand workshop and interview?

@OKmum Hi when is your DD theatre stand workshop and interview?

OP posts:
Samikous · 27/02/2023 19:47

Bless him, I am pretty sure they do take nerves into accounts. Did he have to do his monologue and song in front of the other auditionees or just the teachers?

My daughter has her interview & audition Friday, just wondering what we should expect on the day. X

truelove · 27/02/2023 19:53

@Samikous it was just him and a panel of 4 teachers. He said he’d met them all at the workshop back in December. Is you DD applying for post 16 as well ?

Samikous · 27/02/2023 19:58

Oh okay, at least he kind of knew them. No, she is auditioning for year 10, she's super excited but very nervous.

Lola123456 · 27/02/2023 22:57

@Samikous what strand is your DD?

OP posts:
Samikous · 28/02/2023 07:35

Musical Theatre x

Filthycop · 01/03/2023 13:09

DS had his KS5 theatre workshop and audition this morning.

now the wait until 1st week of April to find out if he got in...

truelove · 01/03/2023 20:44

It’s a relief when it’s over (and a little anticlimactic?) Is that when they said he’d find out? Makes sense as there’s half term next week then more auditions after half term. My son was told he’d find out “soon” which could mean anytime. Not feeling very optimistic currently and looking at alternatives.

Filthycop · 01/03/2023 22:39

@truelove which strand?

fingers crossed you get good news - we have our fingers crossed too but DS won't consider alternatives at the moment as he is in Y11 there at the moment and can't contemplate the thought of not staying.

Filthycop · 01/03/2023 22:40

@truelove - saw above it was for MT

Glamourgal1989 · 03/03/2023 15:56

My dd has an interview the 21/03 for Film and media production for year 12. Cannot wait to be over and done with ! It’s stressful

Pegjes44 · 04/03/2023 10:59

DS had he’s audition/interview yesterday KS4 Theatre Strand
Happy it’s over…the stress 😩
I think it went well now we need to wait
