Just thought I would start a thread for anyone who has applied for a place at BRIT school

We have also had a phone call, my DD is on out of catchment for MT Y12. 😊

Well done to everyone who had been offered places recently!

I was starting to panic as we haven’t had anything since accepting my dd’s place for ks4, but I guess they’re waiting until all the places are filled.

Hi @Primrose44 DS auditioned for Bodens and found out yesterday he has a recall next week followed by the open day. Excited to see and meet them in person next week - feels like a fab alternative.

No, I haven't bothered yet @Primrose44 . Sounds like there has been some movement which is good news but I think we're better to focus on Bodens for now. I'm hoping he likes it and gets a place then will have something positive to look forward to rather than waiting for the phone to ring.

Sorry @RS30 - just realised I tagged the wrong person!! So pleased for your DD btw. Do you have to find accommodation now?

@truelove yes, we’re starting the task of looking for somewhere for her to stay! Doesn’t help we’re 6 hours away!

Oh my goodness @RS30!! That is a long way. Can the school help at all?

@truelove they have provided a list of possible people with rooms so hopefully that will be a starting point. Her heart is set on going so here’s hoping we can find her somewhere to live 🤞

I think that sounds very positive and Bodens will be great training.

@Primrose44 DS has been offered a place at Bodens!!! We absolutely loved it when we visited. Amazing teaching and course. We came away feeling very inspired. The great news is they are relocating to Islington from September which will be a much easier journey for him. Such a relief 😊

@truelove we have been lucky to find somewhere and the lady seems lovely, we are really happy. Thanks for asking. Now let’s hope they all enjoy their chosen paths and get through these next few months of exams 🤞

My DD will consider foundation there definitely.

Hi @Primrose44 . yes, Adam was great as were all the other teachers we met. DS learnt so much just from a few taster lessons and the audition (which was workshop style). I think the move is partly because they have outgrown the current site and also to be in a more convenient location. A number of their current students have long commutes which will be helped by the move. The foundation course sounds great. They said a number of their diploma students stay on for the foundation year (also fully funded) as very few of the top drama schools take students at 18.

That's exactly right.I know a few in the situation now who have been offered foundations at various colleges and these are triple threats with pro credits.

I thought rather than starting a new thread I'll rely on the wisdom of this group!

My DS is starting at BRIT in Year 10 in September, Theatre Strand. He's been super excited to go and was eagerly waiting for his option choices to come through. He chose Film, Photography and History but we got an e-mail last week that he's been given Graphic Design, Sociology and History instead. Here's the thing: My DS is a super keen film-maker and has been a star student at Film Studies at his old school, winning all sorts of awards and accolades. When he applied for BRIT, it took him a long time to decide whether to apply for Theatre or Film and Media Production. He went for Theatre in the end, thinking he could do Film as an option choice and then think again after Year 11 what he wanted to do at sixth form. He's really as passionate aboute film-making as he is about acting. Now that he's not been given Film as an option subject, he's stunned. He cannot imagine not studying film further, and everybody who knows him says it would be crazy for him not to do Film as it's by far his best subject and obviously what he loves. He always saw both acting and film-making as an integral part of his BRIT journey. For context, at his old school he's been given all his option choices, including Film, Photography and Drama. He was happy enough there but very excited to move on to BRIT.
We as parents have written to BRIT last week listing all his awards and achievements, he has also sent an e-mail himself explaining why film is so important to him. So far we haven't heard back but it's early days.
Does anybody here know how likely it is that BRIT will be flexible and accommodating in regards to this issue? I suppose Film is a very popular choice and vastly oversubscribed. My DS is so hoping they'll make it work for him but I'm telling him they might not and what then???

I'm tearing my hair out over this - grateful for any advice, thanks!
