Just thought I would start a thread for anyone who has applied for a place at BRIT school

OP posts:

No advice but just to say we are in the same position ( although diff subject) and have done the same thing. Also not heard back yet. It also seems, from what I've heard from the group chats my child is in, that a lot of people have been disappointed with their option choices.

Kezza197 · 31/07/2023 08:41

I have no advice but I sent an email to the AEN team at Brit last week and got an out of office saying that there won’t be anyone on site until 29 August. I’m sure that the data and exams team are off too, apart from results days, so, as worrying as the wait is, I doubt you’d hear anything from them before then. The email says any option changes would be made within the first four weeks so I guess you will have to wait and see if there is any movement then? I can’t begin to imagine the stress though!!

Nunsmet22 · 31/07/2023 10:22

Thanks @Daffodils23 and @Kezza197 that's really good to know. If there's lots of people in our position there might be better chances that there's movement - or it means they will be less sympathetic to the individual case and shrug it off.
What worries me is that l had written to them in early June saying my son is happy to swap anything but Film and could they please make sure if he couldn't get all his choices, Film would be the one he would get. I got a standard reply 'we'll try to give people what they want but can't guarantee it.' So clearly, in this instance they weren't accommodating.
The problem is, the other two alternative subjects he got aren't exactly brilliant for him either as there wasn't much to choose from that really played to his strengths.
For him it is unthinkable at the moment but l'm seriously wondering if under the circumstances, BRIT is really the right school to do GCSEs at for him. It's a horrible feeling. We're still holding the place at his old school because we wanted to wait for his option choices to come through and it felt wrong to give it up before then. If we do give it up at the beginning of the new term (we can't hold it with him not going!) we'll be at the end of a long waiting list for that school.
Really hoping we'll hear something back before end of August. After all, they gave that e-mail address to send queries to and we haven't had an out of office reply...😬

Hi,
We are also in the same position and we did sent them an email.
Last week i did received an email back with a form to fill "KS4 Option change" which i filled and returned back.
On their email they said it's not guarantee that my DS will get the subject he wanted only if a place will become available.
I do understand that not everyone will get their 1st choice but we only get 1 out of 3 when i know many kids did get their 1st choice on all the 3 blocks.
Hopefully everything will be sorted in September....

Nunsmet22 · 31/07/2023 15:17

Thanks @Pegjes44 that's useful to know! Unfortunately we didn't get a form (or anything) back despite e-mailing on Thursday and Friday last week... @Daffodils23 did you get a KS4 option change form?

Pegjes44 · 31/07/2023 15:21

Hi @Nunsmet22 I emailed them on the 26th and i received an answer back on the 28th.

Daffodils23 · 31/07/2023 15:30

We emailed on the 27th (Thurs) which is the day we got the email re the allocations. Haven't got a form or heard anything back

Nunsmet22 · 31/07/2023 15:34

We only got the e-mail on 27th (Thurs) noon. We e-mailed back pretty much straight away and then added supporting evidence on Friday. Heard nothing back which now makes me think they're all on holiday... :-(

Pegjes44 · 31/07/2023 15:35

Sorry I emailed them on the 27th not 26th and they reply on the 28th

Nunsmet22 · 31/07/2023 15:41

So one out of three of us got a reply @Pegjes44 and @Daffodils23 - a bit like with the option choices...😜

Pegjes44 · 31/07/2023 15:48

@Nunsmet22 Oh no 😂 this is strange why they didn’t reply to anyone 🤷🏽‍♀️
hopefully you will hear soon

Pegjes44 · 31/07/2023 16:48

They are definitely working because i just received an email confirming that my DS is on the waiting list after filling the KS4 Change Option form last Friday.
Hopefully you will all get a response soon.

Kezza197 · 31/07/2023 17:07

I hope you all hear back soon!

Filthycop · 01/08/2023 00:04

DS has just finished two years at Brit and is about to start 6th form.

In my experience emails rarely get answered unless you send them to every singe email address you can find and someone will somehow get it passed to the right place. I think some inboxes are just so busy that you can get missed.

You may need to keep reminding them! Brits end of term was 26th, a little later than many other schools.

Nunsmet22 · 01/08/2023 08:21

In the e-mail with the option choices it said to send queries to one specific e-mail address. I can well imagine how that one got flooded... My husband sent two e-mails to that address, my DS one. I wrote to the head of the department for Film and Media Production. Are you suggesting we should send more e-mails to the e-mail-address we were given or try other e-mails @Filthycop ? But which ones? We also phoned the school and were told we'd 'probably' get an answer to our e-mails...

Daffodils23 · 01/08/2023 11:43

@Nunsmet22 - We have got the form now. It was sent to my DC rather than to me. Might be worth checking?

Yes. I send to the correct email address. Then if I have no joy I try others. Teacher, year head, strand head, subject head, form teacher etc. Then on to pastoral care

But as PP mentioned, a lot goes to the child email address - we have nearly missed a few things that way as DS never checks his email.

Ultimately though, as good a school as it is, I still have a number of unanswered emails and find the communication from the school to be pretty poor in that respect - lots of newsletters, social media, and mail outs. But not so good when I comes to individual concerns. We have raised a few things, some have been addressed and some not.

Filthycop · 01/08/2023 11:59

And I am not a pushy complain to the school about everything kind of parent.

Arthurwhitewhisker · 01/08/2023 12:07

My daughter has finished 2 years about to start six form and I have never had problem but they can be slow at really busy times. The heads of year and form teachers have been fab!

As for emails I have my daughters emails on my phone as well! Then I see anything that just goes to her but that is few as most get copied.

We were lucky with GCSE's now waiting on a level choices!

Good luck all it really is a fab school and made such a difference to my daughters grades in all subjects as the teachers really get the kids and teach to individual ways

Nunsmet22 · 01/08/2023 13:43

Thanks all. Very helpful!

We did have a phone call today confirming he's on the waiting list. They also said though how oversubscribed Film was this year, they've never seen anything like it. They said the GCSE is not a requirement for doing a Film A level, which was reassuring. It looks like we can't do anything more now except for keeping our fingers crossed for some movement and a lot of luck at the beginning of term...

Primrose44 · 24/08/2023 14:39

For those that wanted to change or challenge options decisions, did you reply to the options outcomes email or the data and exams email address?

We haven't had an options email yet

Nunsmet22 · 24/08/2023 18:09

We wrote to the Data & Exams address. Also wrote to the head of the department that our query was about, who then directed us towards the Data & Exams Team. Good luck!

truelove · 25/08/2023 11:56

We received a call this morning offering DS a place for year 12 MT strand. DS has decided to stick with Bodens so we’ve just turned the place down. Hopefully this gives hope to future wait list candidates - places do come up so don’t give up hope!

Good luck to all of you awaiting your options decisions. Hope it all works out x

Our daughter's piano teacher is fantastic and does prep for all aspects of prospective students' auditions. We're in SE London; happy to pass on details if anyones interested, just drop me a DM.
