Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

Dunder I am also skint due to Christmas but I think some people have Christmas money to spend iykwim.

I have a question about the boots I am selling so hopefully they will sell. They have 3 watchers but are a buy it now which is a little odd.

DunderMifflin · 10/01/2012 11:06

Oooh - those people and their Christmas money!

MyOhMyOh · 10/01/2012 11:14

Well my buyer is now no longer registered on ebay. Bastard! I havent sold the item but it's still listed on my 'sold' bit and under payment not received. Will I have to pay fees on it or will it just drop off after a while?

Sorry for asking so many questions on this thread Blush

fergoose · 10/01/2012 11:17

MyohMy you need to open a case for the unpaid item - go to resolution centre then choose you haven't received payment. This will get your final fees back. Once case is closed you can relist.

MyOhMyOh · 10/01/2012 11:39

Thanks for all your help, opened a case and now it says it's been closed already which must be becuase buyer no longer regsitered.

People are arseholes!

Runoutofideas · 10/01/2012 11:42

Just listed 6 things - will see how we go!

carrotsandcelery · 10/01/2012 12:45

MyOh that sounds rubbish and a total pain. Thank goodness fergoose knows what to do.

I have sold my first item. Dd got boots for Christmas which don't fit and they have sold already. Yay! It is £20 in her pocket, not mine, but it is still something out of the house and me on my way to the target. Just £280 to go Grin

Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly. They paid straight away at least and have been communicating with me in a really friendly way.

How is everyone else getting on?

OP posts:
CointreauVersial · 10/01/2012 13:33

17 items listed, one with a bid, and a further three with watchers.

Mainly kids clothes so I don't have high expectations. I shall move onto the more exciting stuff this week.

carrotsandcelery · 10/01/2012 13:38

Well done Cointreau - kids clothes can be very unpredictable. Good luck!

onadifferentplanet · 10/01/2012 15:04

25 items on,several with watchers (One has 8!) and a couple of bids so beginning to get quite swept up with the excitement!

carrotsandcelery · 10/01/2012 19:25

Yay! I have sold another item (well dd has) at £20 again. They have paid up too so I shall post it in the morning.

planet that sounds promising.

What's the best way to photograph things that came in a box (and are still complete/unopened/unused)?

I'm thinking of doing photos as I go along with finding things and sorting out mailers so that at the next eBay free listing weekend I can jump in and give it try.

ragged · 10/01/2012 20:36

Photograph the box as nicely as possible if it's unopened & say it's unopened, complete in box, Brand New, etc.
DH gave me 2 other online projects to do first, so heaven knows when I'll get listing.

Scout19075 · 10/01/2012 20:42

Just stand it up on the table (which is next to the wall, so will have a white background, so you can see the picture on the box?

carrotsandcelery · 10/01/2012 20:49

Try to put it up against a contrasting background. I have laid out a towel before so that it stands out and sometimes have put things on a clean carpet. Make sure none of the house behind you is on show, or as little of it as possible. Try to do it in the best light that you can and avoid shadows. Depending what it is you will be able to upload more than one photo in which case take as many angles of the item as you can.

Some people put items in a clean white bath to get good light and a plain background.

10 items with bids now!!! Yippeeeeee. A couple of items have 16-17 watchers!!!! Oooooh, the excitement ... Grin

Well done everyone, it looks like there's quite a lot of traffic on Ebay tonight.

CointreauVersial · 10/01/2012 23:15

Pixie, I was going to say wow, but then I remembered you listed your entire house contents. Grin

Another item with a bid (99p - whoop-ee-doo), and loads of watchers for the two "posh frocks" I listed (one of which was actually a hand-me-down from SIL, but I shan't tell her Wink).

What is it with these overseas bidders? I always get loads of enquiries from overseas, and have sent my kids' cast-offs to places as far away as Japan and Australia. It doesn't bother me (I ask bidders from abroad to request a postage quote before bidding so my costs are covered) but you have to wonder why they consider it worthwhile with all that shipping cost. So far, with my 17 measly items I've had enquiries from France, Ireland and Czech Republic.

roguepixie · 10/01/2012 23:22

Oh CV - the only thing not listed on Ebay is my DH... and that was a near thing Smile.

I have had a question from Finland this time round but have sent to Germany, Spain, France, amongst others.

CointreauVersial · 10/01/2012 23:30

Well, you need someone to help lug all those boxes out of the loft....but when he's outlived his usefulness.........Grin

roguepixie · 11/01/2012 15:13

I know...I am going to load his details up Grin

MyOhMyOh · 11/01/2012 19:24

Quick question (sorry again Blush) I've sold 3 items today, paid by pp. On My Ebay it says I need to post 3 items, but also says 2 items are eligible for second chance offers. There's been no reversal of pp funds when i've checked pp, so not sure if this is just a 'thing' or if anyone else has this?

carrotsandcelery · 11/01/2012 20:51

MyOh mine always says that - I think it is just if a buyer backs out or something that you ever need to pay attention. Panic not - it looks like it is all going a bit better for you. Fingers crossed.

I have posted dd's outgrown clothes to New Zealand, battered packs of winnie the pooh cards to America etc. There seems to be a huge overseas market.

OP posts:
MyOhMyOh · 11/01/2012 21:01

Thanks for helping me so much with this, I really appreciate it Smile. Everything seems to be going well in that case!

Sounds like overseas is a really good market for you, glad it's going well.

carrotsandcelery · 11/01/2012 21:19

We will all be asking questions like crazy next week MyOh. It takes a while for it to build up Grin

OP posts:
roguepixie · 11/01/2012 21:56

13 items gone now ... current tally stands at £154.00 for auctions ending tomorrow and Sunday. Am hopeful that the amount sold will increase and the amount made will increase as there are a couple of items that have a lot of watchers.

Good luck to everyone Ebaying. How is it going for everyone?
