Anyone interested in a £300 by Easter ebay selling thread?

carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2012 23:05

Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

Hi I would love to join you but can I ask - If you saw an item was in Italy would that make you reluctant to bid? I have a few named items - Burberry, Lacoste, Polo etc and I see they sell better in the UK. ( I also have loads of crap delightful items but the Italians just don't seem to get the hang of e bay !) I would also like £300 by Easter and need a firework in the right place to get me moving ...... Thanks and good luck to you all

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 17:44

Rosa if it is big label stuff you might just notice a dip in your prices as people take in the cost of postage. You could take a hit by offering UK postage prices and paying the rest yourself. You would have to set your minimum price high enough to make sure you didn't end up selling at a loss though. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along and offer more experienced advice.

Cointreau babystep one achieved. Hurrah!

Can I join please? I am planning on eBaying this year and a target seems a good place to start- I have pictures already of clothes but my old iPhone won't let me list- it's a pain to do it on the computer! Oh well, if I stop moaning and start moving I might get some things listed before the day ends!

Good luck!

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 18:35

It's great to see lots of new names joining the thread. I feel quite motivated!

Hello! I am up for this! Got a few bits listed today. I've got loads of cds and dvds but they never seem to sell Hmm anyone else have the same problem? I've put a load of cds on but the automatic listing thing doesn't fill out all the information anymore - track listing etc Confused

Tortoise · 08/01/2012 19:34

Good to see this thread so busy Smile.
I want to get my old sega console listed and old hand held sega console listed. Will try to tonight but lacking motivation to get it sorted!

I saw someone mentioned turbo lister as I scanned thread.
There is no need for TL as you can use a sneaky scheduling trick!
Just list item as normal but schedule it for a day and time ahead of when you want it to start then edit it to list item immediately when you want it to start. This cancels out the scheduled start time thus costing nothing and meaning lots can be scheduled in advance.

Does that make sense?

karatekimmi · 08/01/2012 20:11

Thanks for the boost, have listed 8 items so far! Happy that I've made a start!

LovesBloominChristmas · 08/01/2012 20:19

Have spent so long sorting stuff out I haven't actually listed anything Sad

fergoose · 08/01/2012 20:21

Lovesbloomin - you can still list tonight - just do very simple listing of item title in correct category, 1 word or line description, post costs and then list item

Then tomorrow or later on at your leisure go back in and add photos and detailed description etc.

If anyone uses turbolister during free listing weekends they won't qualify for the free listing unfortunately.

CointreauVersial · 08/01/2012 20:25

Eight items listed - yay! Only bits and pieces, but it's a start. A few more to go on this evening, and I will forage in the loft later in the week for some more stuff for next weekend.

The first one took ages, but once I started to copy it over for the next item it got a bit faster.

Tortoise - hot tip on the scheduling!! I'll try that next week (too late this time).

The reason I wanted to get Turbolister working was because I was listing loads of the same sort of thing (kids clothes) and it would have saved listing each one individually. But I couldn't get it to call up any of the item specifics and gave up in a big rage - that was a year ago. Blush

boogiewoogie · 08/01/2012 20:28

Tortoise What do you mean? I've not really heard this trick before. For example if I wanted to list something say tomorrow, do I schedule it for 8pm tomorrow and then at 8:01pm tomorrow, I just list immediately and it costs nothing? Well, what's the point? Am I missing something?

fergoose · 08/01/2012 20:30

no you would schedule it for say 9pm (which would incur a charge) then go in at 8pm and send it to be listed then and it is free and you won't be charged the scheduling fee

boogiewoogie · 08/01/2012 20:40

Okay, thanks for that Fergoose. I'll try that next time.

boogiewoogie · 08/01/2012 20:40

Oh, but then would it start at 8pm or 9pm?

Tortoise · 08/01/2012 20:44

As fergoose said Smile.
One example could be that you want items to start at around 9pm Sunday. So throughout the week schedule items to start at 10 or 11pm Sunday then at 9pm edit to start immediately.

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 20:44

I have just finished editing my listings so that they start now. It is a really useful trick and means you can write up your listings all week, here and there when you have time, and then list them all at your chosen time.

OP posts:
boogiewoogie · 08/01/2012 20:48

Okay, I see. So really, it's just so that you can get items to end close together right without having to clear one listing before starting another?

fergoose · 08/01/2012 20:51

Well it is useful to list items over several days before hand at your leisure as it were - then send them live to eBay on a free listing day - plus it is handy to have items ending on the same day too :)

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 20:51

Or to get them to end at the time of day when most people might be available to bid.

OP posts:
carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 20:52

Ooops! Xposts fergoose sorry.

OP posts:
fergoose · 08/01/2012 20:54

don't apologise Carrots :) I forgot to put that bit in too :)

LovesBloominChristmas · 08/01/2012 21:34

Fergoose you are a genius [grub]

LovesBloominChristmas · 08/01/2012 21:34

Bloody iPhone Grin

CointreauVersial · 08/01/2012 21:37

Just listed a few more bits, but my PC was misbehaving and wouldn't load the pics, so I'll have to update tomorrow. I'm feeling very pleased with myself.

While I have the ear of a few eBay experts, can I ask about re-listing? If something doesn't sell first time, how many times is it worth re-listing? Obviously it is worth it if it is high value, but when we are talking about 99p kids clothes there must be a point when you have to give up and accept that no-one wants to buy it. What is your re-list strategy?

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 21:44

I am not an expert but I have relisted 99p clothes for weeks with no action at all and then had a bidding war erupt on the same item.

I know others in the the last thread had relisted 12 times and then got a bidding war.

If it is 99p then there are no charges unless it sells so it is really down to how long you can stand it hanging around.
