Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

Wow pixie - you are well on the way to target already. We may have to give you extra homework Grin

Pixie, you clearly have a better standard of items listed than I do - my current tally stands at.......£2.49. Blush Well, I thought I'd start slowly.

Crunch time will come this weekend - can I keep up the selling momentum, and get more items listed? I don't want this to be a one-week wonder (I'm counting on you lot to keep me on track). I have a brand new set of straighteners that I really must shift, amongst other things.

roguepixie · 12/01/2012 07:55

I do have a couple of new expensive items on which are garnering interest and bids - the are season specific and brand new so I suppose that's why. Other weeks have earned me about £3.50 sometimes!!!!! Last week got me £12.00 when postage was taken into account so the big haul is only this coming week. Perhaps the DH will have to be listed Hmm. Have just found another stash of cd's though so will be putting them on at the weekend.

Runoutofideas · 12/01/2012 07:58

Hmm - I am at £3.29 at the moment but still 3 days left on everything and only listed 7 items. The one getting the most interest is a Happyland fairy boot which has 17 watchers. I've sold happyland before and it went for really good prices too. Just to let you know in case any one has it festering in a loft!

MyOhMyOh · 12/01/2012 12:21

I've just posted my first 4 things off and had a pick up only sale a few nights ago. If all goes well and nobody messes me around like 1st buyer, I'll have made £95 this week Shock Grin

CointreauVersial · 12/01/2012 13:08

It's the strangest things that attract interest. A couple of years ago we sold a load of ancient CDs, most of which went for a pound or two, except "Howard Jones - The 12" Album" (remember him? 80s? spiky hair? crazy knitwear?).

Well, after a few days it had upwards of 20 watchers, and eventually sold for nearly £30. At that point we thought we'd better check it wasn't scratched to death.....luckily it played OK, and off it went. It is no doubt making someone very happy. Made DH happy too, considering it was a Woolies bargain bucket purchase a few years earlier. Grin

fergoose · 12/01/2012 13:29

Wow - that is crackers. But good crackers to get that amount for it. I remember going to see Howard Jones at the Radio One Roadshow :)

rebecklet · 12/01/2012 14:06

MyOhMyOh the second chance offer is for if you have another of the same item, you can offer it to a non-winning bidder (the next highest for example).

I would like to join the challenge -we are paying off debt and saving for a deposit so every penny really helps. LOVED that it was a free listing weekend and I managed to get about 80 of my Disney pins on for sale and then have been adding more at 99p the rest of this week. So far only 9 items with bids on but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Although one of those has 3 bidders and I have 4 of those pins so hopefully I can use second chance and sell all 3 in one go :)

onadifferentplanet · 12/01/2012 16:53

Agree with the unusual items attracting interest. I have 17 watchers for a Maid Marian fancy dress costume!

CointreauVersial · 12/01/2012 17:31

Ooh, fancy dress! Must have a delve through DD2's wardrobe, as she is long past this phase.

CointreauVersial · 13/01/2012 13:29

Yay! Four items bid, current tally £9, but still a couple of days to go. Quick burst of housework, then I'm off to the loft for more stuff. How are you all doing?

carrotsandcelery · 13/01/2012 13:34

I have been trying to spur myself on to schedule lots today ready to go live on Sunday but have failed so far.

I still have 4 things listed - one thing has 6 watchers (auction) and the others are buy it now and are not shifting so far. Hopefully they will be coming closer to the top of the lists now as I only put them on for one week.

Runoutofideas · 13/01/2012 14:13

How long do most people put stuff on for? I normally go for 3 or 5 days as I think any longer and people don't bother scrolling through the pages. Different for Buy It Now I suppose....

carrotsandcelery · 13/01/2012 14:17

I usually go for a week so that there is time to hit everyone's routine (eg they have Thurs night on their own because dh has band night etc so they will browse ebay) and end on a Sunday or Monday night.

Some people go for a 10 day listing, covering 2 weekends for maximum exposure.

I have put Buy It Now on for 30 day before but if it is not an unusual item it just ends up way down the lists and people rarely look that far.

Hi all I would like to join! Had a successful start before Xmas and it has started an addiction I think!

One question - do free listings weekends tend to swamp the place so more competition and therefore less success? Or does it mean more people looking?

onadifferentplanet · 13/01/2012 19:11

Watchers on items have really picked up this evening, now have 22 on Maid Marian! and have about £25 of bids . This is getting really addictive.

boogiewoogie · 13/01/2012 19:41

Do you have to pay a fee for BIN listing on a free listing day? How do BIN fees work? e.g is it 50p for a BIN price of up £5 then x% of BIN price?

carrotsandcelery · 13/01/2012 19:52

I think you do have to pay to list, even if it is free listings. I don't know what percentage they charge of your profit though. Both items were £20 so I imagine it will be a fair bit.

OP posts:
CointreauVersial · 13/01/2012 20:34

I've never done a BIN. What sort of things would you list BIN, rather than Auction?

Tally now at £15! Both party frocks have small bids, but I'm hoping they will go higher.

I have just input a load more items, scheduled for Sunday evening start (hoping I'll remember to nip in and make them live before then).

carrotsandcelery · 13/01/2012 20:45

The things I have listed are things which are brand new and which I am not prepared to accept less than a certain price for. If I put them on for auction then they might not make that price and if I put them on auction for the top price then I doubt anyone would look at them. It also gives buyer and sellers the option to have it posted straight away, rather than wait until the auction ends (eg my boot buyer has already received the boots and is able to wear them now). I was advised on the last thread that some items sell better this way eg wii games which people sometimes impulse buy or want straight away.

OP posts:
roguepixie · 13/01/2012 21:08

Well done everyone, things seems to be going really well.

I have raised £137.00 so far this month and bids on current items stands at £95 for auction ending on Sunday so that will take me over £200. It is wildly addictive though, isn't it? I am finding myself looking at everything with a view to how much it would raise on Ebay Grin.

One thing that has always surprised me is how much the classic Disney films make...I once sold Fantasia for over £50!! Might be worth digging through the DVD's to see whether the DC have outgrown the Disney films????

PollyMorfic · 13/01/2012 21:08

I've listed stuff on BIN that I wanted a certain minimum price for, but which are quite specialised and not likely to attract huge numbers of random passing buyers. So Boden clothing I'd start at 99p cos it always attracts loads of interest. Ditto techy computer bits, or other random bits of hardware. Things I've listed on BIN are things that not many people will want, but those who will, will iyswim. So, specialist music equipment, very specialised techy bits, a cello, etc.

carrotsandcelery · 13/01/2012 21:10

I have finally got a bid on my auction. I am now at about £45 for this week, assuming the bidder pays up in the end. Hopefully someone will bid against them and the price will go up.

ragged · 13/01/2012 21:18

I set up 5 items on a used nappy website, it's a start! Could net £50 if they all sell. I've got pictures for the Ebay stuff ready to go, but I can't do the listings when DC at home (next week hopefully). All my nappies are on BIN.

karatekimmi · 13/01/2012 21:19

Have got bids of about £18 so far, you're putting me all to shame!! I'm pleased that I have listed some stuff, and have sorted a(albeit small) pile of stuff to list later!
