Anyone interested in a £300 by Easter ebay selling thread?

carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2012 23:05

Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

Oh no [mogs] that is a very tricky one. I think I would reply with my condolences and sit on it for a while. Don't touch the money in your paypal account and think about it.

It will sound really horrid of me but you have no way of knowing if she is telling the truth. I know I sound a cynic but she may say this every time she buys a bigger item. It may of course be true Sad It is really hard to know how to react.

I was going to have a break from selling until after the school holidays, but I might put some re-lists on tonight for 10 days. I already have a 30-day BIN that finishes in about 4 days time, so am not completely listing-free at the moment anyway. I am away for most of next week, so a Monday finish will hopefully mean I have time after I get back to answer any queries before the auctions finish.

By the way, what ARE the rules for making £300 before Easter? [busmile]

Is it total of sales before fees? Or is it profit?

I asked this 2 years ago when I last took part in one of these challenges seriously and no-one ever answered me! [busad]

mogs0 · 06/04/2012 10:39

Carrots - there is a little bit of a cynic in me too and it's a £44 sale so a fair amount to just write off. I'll have a think about how to reply.

Purple - I just add up my total sales for 'the challenge' purposes. I can't be bothered with checking eBay/paypal fees...would probably make me Sad if I realised just how much they are taking in commission!

Drat about cars being excluded!! Will be happy to get £50 for it tbh so I guess listing fees won't be too high.

PurpleFrog · 06/04/2012 11:02

mogs - you could refund a couple of quid as a "Good Will Refund" if it would make you feel better. I would not refund the whole amount without it being returned first. It is very easy with Paypal to do a partial refund.

Well, if we are looking at Total Sales, I guess I have completed the challenge! My grand total from eBay since the beginning of January is £318.81!! [bugrin]

ragged · 06/04/2012 12:09

thanks for Free Listing notice (I opt out of Ebay marketing emails, too much already).

If we have another challenge thread... what will be the deadline? . I know I'll never achieve another £300 before September, summer is a low season for sales, anyway. Perhaps I'll just aim for £100 again.

PurpleFrog · 06/04/2012 12:20

I was going to say the beginning of July... but how about the start of the Olympics for the next challenge deadline? And have different goals for Bronze, Silver and Gold levels? Smile

ragged · 06/04/2012 12:24

thumbs up to Olympics start as deadline.
Not that I really want to pay attention to Olympics, but I shan't fail to know when it starts, at least.

I think I'll be the team Lanterne Rouge again, mind. Wink

fergoose · 06/04/2012 12:59

Mogs I may sound heartless but i would do nothing at the moment - just wait and see if she contacts you again. Maybe I am cynical but I dunno.

carrotsandcelery · 06/04/2012 13:17

When will we start the next challenge? On Tuesday? [bugrin]

OP posts:
PurpleFrog · 06/04/2012 13:33

Well - I suppose it depends when his one actually finishes! [bugrin]

PurpleFrog · 06/04/2012 13:34

I mean THIS one, not his one!

mogs0 · 06/04/2012 14:00

Is it bad that i don't actually know when the olympics start Blush? Sounds like a good amount of time though and I would agree to start on Tuesday.

I have got tonnes and tonnes of stuff that absolutely has to go as soon as possible.

I found two more sunshades in the cupboard a couple of days ago which makes a total of five including the one I sold last week Blush.

Fergoose - I am inclined to do nothing but part of me feels really awful for not even acknowledging her message.

ragged · 06/04/2012 14:19

around 26 july, Mogs. I envy your ignorance!! Grin

fergoose · 06/04/2012 14:34

I know Mogs - is difficult. Maybe just email a quick very sorry for your loss to your buyer then - that is decent enough for the time being. Maybe later she will return for a refund?

PurpleFrog · 06/04/2012 14:39

I have just checked and the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics is on 27th July. [I know there are usually some early rounds for some sports held before that, but I don't think that should count! [buwink] ]

Tortoise · 06/04/2012 16:16

Hi all.
Holiday over and back to normality! Piles.of washing to do and I see we have 4 days of free listing! I do have some re-lists to do and DS wants me to list some xbox 360 games for him.

carrotsandcelery · 06/04/2012 16:24

Ok so we can finish this thread on Monday and start a new one on Tuesday [buwink] Any volunteers for starting the new thread?

I hope you had a good time Tortoise?

mogs I agree that an email expressing sympathy is all you need to do for now. Just don't spend the money for now either just in case.

OP posts:
mogs0 · 06/04/2012 16:44

I'm afraid that every challenge thread I have started has resulted in me selling zero items Blush...I'm a follower not a leader Grin.

Tortoise · 06/04/2012 17:51

Had a great time, thanks.

I'm happy to start new thread if someone has an idea for a good title! Mine are always rubbish lol.

carrotsandcelery · 06/04/2012 18:48

I don't think mine was particularly inspired but it seemed to do the job. [bugrin]

OP posts:
carrotsandcelery · 06/04/2012 18:49

You could have fun with the Olympic theme though!

OP posts:
Tortoise · 06/04/2012 18:51

Hmm I'm rubbish at it though! Plenty.of time for ideas from everyone!

mygirllollipop · 06/04/2012 19:39

If my two collections go OK tomorrow and my two items ending tomorrow go OK then I should just about make the £300 target/ be £5ish short of it.
Olympic dates sound good as I am hoping to move the week before so a great deadline for me, at least.

mogs0 · 06/04/2012 21:23

Here are my listings so far ... so much for waiting until after the Easter holidays Grin. I just had to take advantage of the free listing because I really need to sell another the ABC buggy. Mostly relists and I'm going to work my way through a large pile of Summer clothes this evening to decide which are for ebay and which can go to the charity shop.

Under all the clutter, I have managed to misplace my camera so will have to do the fiddly uploading of photos from my mobile to the pc which will have to wait until after the weekend because ds and I are going away for a couple of days.

Facebookhurtsmybrain · 07/04/2012 10:27

Here my listings so far... half way through. Meh

Does stuff sell over holiday periods?
