Anyone interested in a £300 by Easter ebay selling thread?

carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2012 23:05

Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

Glad to be of help!

Those with school aged children, when are they off school for easter? Ds' school doesn't close until Thursday but I know there are other school fairly close by who have finished already.

I'm trying to work out when to start listing again.

Oh and one of the items I sold last week was a buggy sunshade which had previously been listed for £4.99 and ended with no bids. It sold on Tuesday for £21!! I think I rather flukily timed it to coincide with the sunny weather Grin

CointreauVersial · 31/03/2012 21:06

Mogs, ours finished school yesterday (Surrey). Thursday's a bit late, surely?!

EmmaCB1 · 31/03/2012 21:10

Ha ha! Well done with the sunshade!! I am hoping my long sleeved babygrows will come into their own next week when it sleets!!!

Schools here finished yesterday, too (cambs), and they open again on monday 16th.

Tortoise · 31/03/2012 21:27

Schools broke up here too.
Had one more payment but by echeque so I've emailed saying will post on 7th or after Easter depending on when echeque clears.

carrotsandcelery · 01/04/2012 09:47

Our school broke up on Friday (Scotland) and is closed for 2 weeks.

I have a few bids in now but if there is no bidding war I am going to struggle to make £15 this week.

Anyone got items finishing tonight? How are you getting on?

My items are up to a total of £17 tonight so far but don't finish for an hour.

Some surprising items are being bid on though.

Thanks for school info. I'll start listing clothes next week then and give myself a week off!

I've just got two items left, finishing on Wednesday but no bids so far.

I still haven't found the missing item and have been putting off packing up the courier item all weekend and it absolutely has to go out tomorrow.

Buyer has just been to collect four ikea toy units. I'm so pleased, my living room nearly looks spacious Grin. The last toy unit is being picked up tomorrow, yay!

Good luck with tonight's listings!!

carrotsandcelery · 01/04/2012 22:15

I made £17. I am not relisting tonight because a) it seems too late at night to get a bidding war b) a lot of people might be away for the Easter weekend.

Do you think next Monday or next Tuesday would be the best days? Do people in England get the Monday off? Our schools often go back on Easter Monday here Hmm

Mine have 2 wks off school for Easter. I'm going to wait until after that to list I think. Then will get the summery stuff out the back of the cupboard!

CointreauVersial · 01/04/2012 23:58

Sold 10 items tonight - nearly all the school summer dresses went; also (hooray) DS's old TV, which we bought on eBay for £10 a couple of years ago, and have just sold for....£10!

About £50 tonight, so I think I have reached the Easter target. I'm going to do some relists tomorrow; maybe by Easter Monday people might be back on eBay buying.

carrotsandcelery · 02/04/2012 15:35

That's the parcels which have been paid for away. I have 2 nonpayers which is annoying as I may have no car tomorrow. We can walk to the Post Office as they are not heavy or awkward but if it snows again I will want to hide inside [wimp]

Blast, one of my buyers has emailed to say item not as described. It's a £40+ item too Sad.

I still can't find the missing skirt and have realised that the parcel I wanted to send with the courier is too big for collect+ so will have to go with a more expensive courier.

Today is not a good day and I feel fed up with ebay (quite unreasonably) and want a big break but still have so much to get rid of...including lots of my sister's things.

Maybe an early night tonight will make me feel better about it tomorrow.

carrotsandcelery · 02/04/2012 18:05

mogs you have had a tough week - you are bound to feel a bit jaded.

Can you make a deal with the "not as described" buyer eg offer them a small refund depending on what they are claiming the problem to be.

OP posts:
ragged · 02/04/2012 18:11

What's the problem as buyer sees it, Mogs?

mogs0 · 02/04/2012 18:24

It's a Radley bag, described as 'in excellent condition' but buyer saying that the handles are discoloured on the underside and that she wanted it as a gift.

carrotsandcelery · 02/04/2012 18:32

You could offer her the chance to return it to you for a refund once you have received it.

I would be suspicious if she accepted a small refund as she is claiming that it is not fit for what she bought it for.

OP posts:
ragged · 02/04/2012 19:03

I am afraid I go with the easy way out, I think I'd offer a small discount for her to accept as is, else her to return, and you refund to follow when condition verified. She can reverse payment any time she likes, anyway, all the power is with her.

I imagine she could now discolour the handles then return it, and you'd have no evidence to prove it was ever otherwise.

PITA, though. :(

fergoose · 02/04/2012 19:19

Mogs I think all you can do is tell her to return, and then you can refund. Say you will be checking your security marks to verify before giving a full refund.

mogs0 · 02/04/2012 22:08

Without thinking it through, I emailed saying sorry she thought it wasn't as described and to return for a full refund.

I forgot to say anything about me checking security marks or saying it needed to be returned in the same conditon as received and sent recorded.

Also, I think maybe i should have offered a partial refund to save me the hassle of relisting it...I usually never do this but the last week has been so exhausting, I can't stand the thought of adding anything extra to my list of things to do! Dramatic, moi?!!!

ragged · 03/04/2012 10:00

How do you put security marks on a handbag? Must admit I've never recorded security marks for anything I've sold, are they the same as serial numbers?

Hassle avoidance is why I would offer partial refund.
And move her onto blocked bidder list for future if you believe she's fiddled you. Token gesture, admittedly.

fergoose · 03/04/2012 10:57

you don't put security marks on the handbag - but you tell the buyer you have to prevent them returning their own damaged item and keeping your unblemished item for free.

carrotsandcelery · 03/04/2012 10:59

Very wise fergoose - I learn from you all the time Grin

OP posts:
IwishIwasmoreorganised · 03/04/2012 11:09

I've only sold 3 items - grand total of £35!!

But.....I have 57 items ready to start on Thursday evening for 10 days (so that it ends on a Sunday). They were all ready to go last Thursday but I realised that would mean it all ending on Easter Sunday and we'll be away so I have postponed it by a week.

I've started with baby goods mainly and then will move onto toys and clothes when I summon up enought energy to doo all of this again!

Not going to hit the Easter deadline but it's a start!

carrotsandcelery · 03/04/2012 11:59

A start is a start Iwish.

What are we going to do after Easter? Shall we do another thread to build up cash for the summer?
