At Home Insemination - Buddies?

H8624 · 15/02/2020 17:58

For several reasons hubby and I are going down the route of at home insemination. It can be quite a lonely process I think - does anyone want to join me and we can go through it together/share tips etc?

Bit of background - we've tried for 2 months now both unsuccessful. I'm using clearblue ovulation detector to get my peak, and we've been doing the insemination every day from when I get my flashing smiley to the day after the peak, give or take the odd day! Using 10ml syringes and laying down afterwards for 20-30 mins.

Finding the 2ww a real struggle, and my heart breaks every time AF comes! I know it's only been 2 cycles and could take a lot longer so need to be patient! Altho feel like everyone around me is having babies which doesn't help!

Anyway sorry for going on - anyone want to join and share their experiences/tips? Need some motivation and hope!

@burpalot I just bought the bits separately on eBay/amazon as I found it cheaper than Kits.

Bought little pots and then 10ml needleless syringes to insert (these were like £4 for 10 on Amazon) The past two months I also used preseed but that was just personal choice. I also used Clearblue advanced OPK tracker to ensure I was trying at the right time. Took me 5 months altogether.

Thank you both!

Waiting2BAMummy · 07/05/2020 23:56

Congratulations @ChunkyButFunky87 so happy for you.

Glad you’re feeling okay @H8624 though I’m sure we’d all be happy to be feeling rubbish for a baby!

I’m using a known donor and he’s not going to help this month (due to ovulate next weekend) so I need to find a new donor now.

H8624 · 08/05/2020 11:23

@waitingtobamummy worried something is wrong today as had bright red spotting when wiping :(. Only 5 weeks +3 though so not much I can do at the moment!

Sorry to hear your donor can't help this month. Are you planning to find another donor for this month or try again next month?

Waiting2BAMummy · 08/05/2020 13:13

Try not to panic @H8624 easier said than done I know but I’ve read many stories of women who have had spotting throughout their pregnancy and have gone on to have perfectly healthy babies. I hope everything is okay.

I think I’ve found a new donor I had chatted with him last year before I found my previous donor but his schedule didn’t work with when I was due to ovulate but as my cycles have changed he can help now. He’s 2 hours away so hopefully the lockdown will be eased on Monday or I probably won’t be able to travel.

ChunkyButFunky87 · 08/05/2020 13:43

@H8624 keeping everything crossed for you. My best friend has had similar and they gave her an early scan at 7 weeks and all is fine even with blood loss.

Keep your chin up x

H8624 · 08/05/2020 14:00

@waitingtobamummy and @chunkybutfunky87 thank you both for
Your replies! It seems to have tailed off again mostly now so hopefully it'll be ok. Think I will contact my GP Monday to get checked out depending what happens. Can't do much atm as it's bank holiday!

@waitingtobamummy good that you have a donor ready! Fingers crossed this'll be your lucky month with a new donor if lockdown is eased 😊🤞

Waiting2BAMummy · 08/05/2020 14:05

🤞@H8624 try to stay calm if it’s tailed of hopefully it’s nothing but best to check with your go on Monday maybe you’ll get an early scan for reassurance. x

Hello
! Thought I'd joint this thread to. I am starting to ttc found a donor a few months ago but haven't been given the opportunity to try yet. Desperately want to try next month so looking at sellmer diers. This is such a hard journey, I just have so many hopes.

ChunkyButFunky87 · 10/05/2020 20:14

@H8624 how are you?

I woke today 5+2 with bleeding :( carried on all day, bright red getting worse. Rang 111 who said OOH would call me back within 2 hours, 6 hours later they basically said no early scans currently and to present at A&E if flooding a pad an hour. Otherwise contact own GP tomorrow.

I'm not feeling very hopeful with what's come away, think it's gone/going.

Gutted right now

H8624 · 10/05/2020 20:31

@chunkybutfunky87 I am doing ok thanks. The bleeding stopped so fingers crossed. I contacted the maternity email I registered with and they said they can't do anything I have to contact gp - but got brushed off by them last week so will have to wait it out!

I'm so sorry to hear you are bleeding :(. Are you still bleeding now? Is it heavy? Does it have clots if you've noticed? It's so stressful isn't it :(. Perhaps it's worth a trip to A&E tomorrow if it's still happening just so you can find out either way? Fingers crossed it's just the little bean getting cosy! X

OP posts:
ChunkyButFunky87 · 10/05/2020 20:40

@H8624 yes been bleeding since I woke at 7am, it's definitely got heavier over the day but not flooding. Bright red with A few small clots. Could easily pass for a period so presume it's a chemical pregnancy.

Going to ring my GP tomorrow and see if they'll at least do blood test and then retest to see HCG even if they can't refer for scan right now

H8624 · 10/05/2020 20:44

@chunkybutfunky87 yes best to try gp first and see what they say! Hopefully they will test your levels the refer you for a scan!

Im so sorry you're going through this - please let me know how you get on. Got everything crossed for you!

OP posts:
ChunkyButFunky87 · 11/05/2020 09:52

@H8624 thanks, still bleeding today so I'm not overly optimistic. Doctors have been told by EPU I have to wait until Friday when should be 6 weeks, test and if says positive they'll book me in for a scan, if it says negative then that's that.

Just another few days in limbo

H8624 · 11/05/2020 11:54

@chunkybutfunky87 I'm so sorry you're going through this :(.

Keeping my fingers crossed it all works out for you xx

Hi all,
Me and may partner are waiting on our kit to start this, any support, guidance and tips very appreciated.
Wishing you all the best of luck.

Waiting2BAMummy · 11/05/2020 17:12

I’m sorry @ChunkyButFunky87 thinking of you x

H8624 · 11/05/2020 17:47

@firsttime92 welcome and good luck.

My tips would be try to pin point your ovulation if you can so you know you're trying on the right days and stick with it!

Took me 5 months to get a BFP (still early days as well) so didn't happen straight away. The month I had success I did every other day leading up to ovulation day, whereas before that I did every day.

It's all about finding what works for you and your partner. Good luck.

Waiting2BAMummy · 11/05/2020 18:41

How are you feeling @H8624?

Looking for someone else’s opinion I’ve found a new donor but he’s 2 hours are they are saying that you can travel now for exercise and I wouldn’t be coming into direct contact with my donor- should I risk it? I’m due to visit Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week.

Waiting2BAMummy · 11/05/2020 18:46

Hi @Firsttime92 as @H8624 it’s a good idea to track ovulation to get an idea of your cycles and see if there is any pattern to when you ovulate.

In terms of the deed itself they recommend drawing up the syringe before you use it and forcing out any air. When drawing up then goods’ make sure you keep the tip of the syringe in the sample at all times and draw up as slowly as possible to limit air bubbles.

Good luck

H8624 · 11/05/2020 18:48

@waitingtobamummy I'm doing ok thanks! I have a constant headache now which is draining when I'm trying to work from home! But that's about it so far. 6 weeks tomorrow so I guess the nausea/sickness could hit any day from now!

That's a tricky one isn't it! I would say if he's two hours away and you follow social distancing it would in theory be ok, however where would you inseminate? As you wouldn't be able to go in his house/book a hotel so would you do it in the car? Not sure it would last very well for 2 hours if driving home to inseminate when you get back from what I've read, although I don't know that for sure! Also best to make sure he isn't showing any symptoms of corona of course as you don't want to put yourself as risk!

OP posts:
Waiting2BAMummy · 11/05/2020 19:17

Can you try that 4head stick for your headaches @H8624? Glad you’re generally feeling okay I’d quite happily have the nausea just to be pregnant!

I know the sensible thing to do would be to wait for a couple of months but I’ve already been trying for 18 months and after my chemical pregnancy in March I’m so desperate to be pregnant again that I’d pretty much do anything at this point.

ChunkyButFunky87 · 12/05/2020 22:15

Didn't need to wait until Friday, I just knew. I was so happy to see those 3 tests last week, and now it's all gone.

Crap :(

H8624 · 13/05/2020 09:43

@chunkybutfunky87 I'm so sorry to hear this :(. Hope you are ok!

Do you think your partner may be willing to try again now that you know the process worked? Or is he still totally against it?

OP posts:
Waiting2BAMummy · 13/05/2020 17:33

I’m sorry @ChunkyButFunky87 I feel your pain I remember the complete shock of seeing that positive and then the sheer excitement kicking in. After getting my positive on a clearblue digital I sat watching YouTube videos on people’s best and most pointless purchases then by Monday my line was fading and I knew it was over. Let yourself feel the sadness and disappointment you’re entitled to it. I hope your partner will try again they do say that you’re more fertile for the three months after a loss. I found my first month after I ovulated about 5 days later than usual though and apparently that’s quite common.

Be kind to yourself x
