At Home Insemination - Buddies?

H8624 · 15/02/2020 17:58

For several reasons hubby and I are going down the route of at home insemination. It can be quite a lonely process I think - does anyone want to join me and we can go through it together/share tips etc?

Bit of background - we've tried for 2 months now both unsuccessful. I'm using clearblue ovulation detector to get my peak, and we've been doing the insemination every day from when I get my flashing smiley to the day after the peak, give or take the odd day! Using 10ml syringes and laying down afterwards for 20-30 mins.

Finding the 2ww a real struggle, and my heart breaks every time AF comes! I know it's only been 2 cycles and could take a lot longer so need to be patient! Altho feel like everyone around me is having babies which doesn't help!

Anyway sorry for going on - anyone want to join and share their experiences/tips? Need some motivation and hope!

Will do, you too @H8624 Smile

Busybee143 · 26/02/2020 21:16

I think its always healthier when you just get on with normal day to day business, takes your mind off things. Im just trying to get on as normal to avoid stressing about every little thing. Your not far off your wait if youre due on Tuesday, good luck! Are you usually regular?

Waiting2BAMummy · 26/02/2020 21:45

Cycle varies each month @Busybee143 but that’s usually due to ovulation. Luteal phase is usually 14 days which would make AF due Tuesday.

Yes, trying to just focus on everyday things and not overthinking things will definitely help your stress levels.

Busybee143 · 27/02/2020 07:39

Ive got everything crossed for us both!!

Waiting2BAMummy · 29/02/2020 11:38

Had brown spotting when I wipe this morning (sorry TMI) so I’m out again.

Hope you’re doing okay @Busybee143

Hope the TWW isn’t driving you too crazy @H8624

Busybee143 · 29/02/2020 11:49

Im oki, still a bit worried but all good signs so far, trying to just enjoy being pregnant and not worry!!
Hope you guys are all ok
Sorry your out @Waiting2BAMummy , keeping you in my thoughts

Waiting2BAMummy · 29/02/2020 11:59

I’m taking a couple of months off I think. I really can’t afford to at my age but I’ve been taking soy isoflavones for the last 3 months which are like natures clomid so I think I should give my body a break.

Glad all your signs are positive @Busybee143. Hopefully once you hit 12 weeks you’ll be able to calm down a little

Busybee143 · 29/02/2020 13:23

Sometimes its good to gove yourself a little breather, wishing you lots of luck

bitheby · 04/04/2020 20:45

Hi. Anyone still around?

bitheby · 04/04/2020 20:46

@Busybee143

I've had a positive test too. How are you getting on?

Dlah · 14/04/2020 12:16

Hi all,

New to this, looking at insemination as struggling to DTD.

Really just looking for a starting point, can anyone recommend items they used? (UK based) and techniques?

Thanks

H8624 · 14/04/2020 15:22

Hi @dlah welcome!

I'm still here sadly - currently on my 5th cycle trying this and no success so far.

You can get kits from websites like pride angel which includes everything but I think they are quite pricey. I bought the bits separately from either ebay or amazon.

I bought little sterile pots, 10ml needleless syringes (you can get smaller as well) and this month I am trying presseed as well. OPK wise you can either use internet cheapies where you can get up to 50 for a few quid, or more expensive brands like clearblue. I use a combination of both currently as I find the lines on the cheapies hard to read, but I had some left from before!

I lay down with hips propped on a couple of pillows under my hips, put it in and leave it for half hour to an hour before getting up again.

I haven't had success yet though so don't know if my way is the right way or not, maybe others can weigh in if they have better ideas that worked?!

@H8624 don't suppose you know what's got a better reputation - preseed or conceive plus?

How far in advance do you put that in?

H8624 · 14/04/2020 15:49

@dlah I don't I'm afraid sorry! I picked presseed because it was cheaper and had good reviews! I put it in about 5 mins before. Some people put it in the pot though I have never tried that.

I think it's a case of trial and error seeing what works/doesn't work for you!

You don't have to use it either if you don't think you need it :)

Dlah · 14/04/2020 15:56

@H8624 Not sure if I need but I'll take any help I can get! Lol

Is this you trying to conceive your first? This would be our second but we just seem to be experiencing difficulties. DD is 4 this year, and I've been off contraception since November 2018. We've only managed to successfully DTD to finish (sorry tmi) once in that time. Hope dwindling :(

H8624 · 14/04/2020 16:11

@dlah yes would be my first! I'm only 28 so hoping no issues down the line, altho after 4 months trying I am starting to lose hope, but trying to stay positive!

Sorry to hear about your difficulties, this way is certainly different but you soon get used to it! Fingers crossed it works.

How long have you been trying?

OP posts:
H8624 · 14/04/2020 16:12

Sorry just realised you said since November!

OP posts:
Dlah · 14/04/2020 16:38

@H8624 yes November 2018, hubby and I had no issues conceiving first child, just took us 5 months naturally. I'm now 32, nearly 33 so I do worry that time isn't on my side also.

It's easier said than done trying to relax about it all for sure

Waiting2BAMummy · 14/04/2020 18:14

Hi @H8624 sorry you’re still trying. I had a chemical pregnancy last month which given that was the first time in 17 months of seeing a positive pregnancy test was pretty hard.

I’m trying to see it as a positive that at least now I know I can conceive? I guess the worry now is can I conceive and stay pregnant.

Hi @Dlah I hear you on the time not on your side front I’m 39 this year 🙁

Dlah · 14/04/2020 18:20

@Waiting2BAMummy sorry to hear about your chemical, just crap for you.

I know I'm lucky that I have my daughter but it doesn't make the ache for another any less, especially when in the last 4-5 months she's randomly been talking to people about her 'baby brother' (nothing we've said!) and the guilt I feel is unreal.

I'm beyond fed up now of being asked when we'll have another and people pointing out she's growing up. I am fully aware! Sad

Waiting2BAMummy · 14/04/2020 18:54

People are insensitive @Dlah they just assume that you’re not trying and you shouldn’t have to tell them just for them to mind their own business.

I fully appreciate its hard when you want a baby and can’t get pregnant no matter whether you already have a child or not. That yearning to hold your tiny bundle of joy in your arms isn’t less because you’ve already experienced that before and I’m sorry if anyone trying for their first has expressed or made you feel like you don’t get to be upset because you already have a child.

Sending you lots of luck x

H8624 · 14/04/2020 19:00

@waitingtobamummy so sorry to hear about your loss :(. Fingers crossed it happens quickly for you this time!

Every month that goes by when AF comes it makes me worry there's something wrong, even tho we've only tried 4 months so not that long yet!

This month we are trying every other day. Last month I did 6 days in a row around my fertile period and it just takes it out of me mentally! So maybe this will help! Due to ov tomo/thurs so waiting on peak.

Where are you in your cycle?

OP posts:
Dlah · 14/04/2020 19:17

I've gone ahead and ordered an eBay pack. From what I've seen and knowing I usually ovulate slightly later around day 17, I'm hoping to do it on days 14, 16 & 18. Thinking that should give us the best chance, this month is out however in that I'm due to ovulate later this week, we're still trying sex but he can't currently finish so I'm sadly doubtful that will give us any chance Sad

Waiting2BAMummy · 14/04/2020 19:29

I completely hear you @H8624 it’s hard not to think something is wrong and when people tell you four months isn’t that long, and even though your logical mind knows that, it still aft too long when you want something so much. Fingers crossed for you this cycle. You are definitely doing the right thing trying before your peak as I’ve read if you wait until you get it then it could be too late.

I’m CD14 today, counting first day of chemical bleeding as CD1. I’m using a known donor so makes the trying and timing thing a little more tricky. Last month I didn’t use OPK’s at all and just tried on CD’s 12 &14. I’ve read lots of differing stories about when people ovulate after a chemical pregnancy some saying they ovulated early, some at their usual time and some late so I decided to use the OPK’s this month to see what was going on. I started testing on CD8 and had a dark line but was still negative and since then they have been all over the place getting lighter and darker. My donor visited yesterday CD13 as he could only do once this week but I still haven’t seen a positive opk. I don’t know if maybe I ovulated early and missed my peak or what’s going on but I think I should just stop testing for this month now as there is nothing I can do about it now for this cycle anyway.

Good luck @Dlah sounds like you have your bases covered. Have my fingers crossed for you.

H8624 · 15/04/2020 17:13

@dlah that sounds like a good plan to me! Good luck with it and please keep us updated!

@waitingtobamummy yes maybe take it easy this month to give your body a chance to recover as well. Altho I have heard stories of people being super fertile after a MC so you never know! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

I got my peak OPK this month I'm in CD12 and I usually ov CD13 based on my temps. I did the first insem Monday, and missed yesterday as hubby had to work but trying again tonight and tomorrow so hoping we're covered! Am feeling worried about missing last night though but nothing I can do about it now!
