Hi lrd :)
So my clinic had no available sperm donors so I had to go elsewhere for that BUT my clinic only allowed you to use sperm from 2 places Esb and Brighton (uk) sperm bank (as they have high standards about what tests should be done etc) so firstly double check if you clinic has any specifications about who else you use from
*I had to pay for storage at my clinic cos wasn't using there sperm (even tho wasn't any) so ask how much that costs (mine was £541 including 3years storage or can get a refund of £320(?ish) back if used in first year) so def needs to be factored in to your costings

  • all sperm banks vary in price - sometimes greatly. I brought a sperm package which included a pregnancy slot for 6months and enough for 3tries which saved a lot of money-in the end only needed 2 tries but took the pressure of it a bit and still worked out cheaper than ordering Separately
*there wasn't a problem with ordering or waiting, my sperm bank sent me a list of ones that could use now and that would be ready soon for me to choose
  • I went with Brighton sperm bank who were amazing (def more expensive that abroad banks) but truly an extra support during the process and lovely staff (but not sure how far they ship out) I chose them over esb as I'm England and liked they were fairly local to me and could chat to a person in English if any problems. When I first spoke to them I knew they were for me, they were kind and helpful and always followed up with what they said they would do so I knew it was a good fit

Hope that helps a bit x

Thanks, that's really helpful! Definitely good to know about different prices. This is what worries me - I don't mind paying out if it's routine, but I'd hate to pay over the odds for no reason.

I will keep Brighton in mind from what you say, as that sounds like a really good experience. Smile

Btw, I hope you are doing well too. It's so lovely seeing your posts at the moment. Smile

Sorry for being AWOL - been finding it hard to keep up!

@TurtleTree hope you are feeling better. We all have highs and lows - this journey is tough.

@Pez82 Congratulations!!!! She is gorgeous- of course you cannot take your eyes off her!
Cannot wait to have a cuddle!

@Latenightreader sorry that last FET did not work. I find it very interesting that they are adjusting your meds - mine are exactly the same. I have been beginning to wonder if they should have been tweaked.
I think Asda is not online - I had to go in person!

@TinyPaws Glad you had a good counselling session.

Yay!!! Welcome back @CautionHormone!!!!

@Bear1980 Sorry about the BFN. Don't beat yourself up about coming off the rails. It happens. You just get back on.

@LRDtheFeministDragon like @pickle162 says - check which banks your FC will allow. When I was with CRGH I first used Cyros and then switched to Xytex (cheaper than Cyros even with shopping from the US) and a much bigger choice. Now I am with IVI and under Spanish regulations I do not get to choose either donor.

I am off work until 4/1!!! Gosh my first week off went past fast!!!! Have been doing a stint of puppysitting which is HARD work!!!
My next step is a baseline scan on 28/12, then hopefully the joy of Cetrotide again on the lead up to FET in Jan.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!! Xmas GrinXmas Grin

Hi All,
I'm 29, Single and have PCOS amongst other medical conditions.
I have been made aware that my localities endocrinology guidance states that they will not offer NHS ivf support for women over 35 AND you had to have been trying to conceive for 3 years.
Due to this I am considering IUI with donor sperm.
I have NO idea where to start or what to read up on or what to expect or even what is going to happen.
I would just like to understand a little bit more and listen to people's journeys to make the right decision for me.
Thank you all!
Ladybird ♥️
PS I have NO idea what most of the abbreviations mean!

Hello!

I have PCOS (and other things) though I've got a partner. We did IUI with donor sperm last year and we're hoping to try again soon.

We did it through a private clinic and it was very well-explained (and this board was great). For us, we chose a clinic with its own sperm bank, so we just went to them, paid for all the tests they require (by law, they must do certain checks like HIV, and they will check the state of your fallopian tubes/ovarian reserve and so on, just to be sure you're a good candidate for IUI). It's not cheap but it's quite easy. Then, they helped us find donor sperm, and DP started a regime of injections to stimulate her cycle. Then after insemination they monitored her for a bit, until she transferred to the normal NHS midwife team.

Some clinics will also do unmedicated IUI, which is even simpler - it depends on their protocols and on your own biology.

Just one thing though - I have been told that, with PCOS, IUI can be less successful, because you produce too many small follicles and not the one or two big ones you want. IUI meds can also cause cysts, which happened with me.

Can answer other questions but didn't want to leave you unanswered on Christmas Eve! Smile Good luck!

Welcome @Ladybird1205 !!!
Let us know which abbreviations you don't understand Grin
We have lots of collective experience of IUI on this thread so let is know if you have any questions.

I have PCOS and had one of my 2 BFPs (big fat pregnancy) through medicated IUI.

Ladies - let me wish you all a very Merry Christmas!
May all our wishes come true. 😘

Welcome @Ladybird1205, you've definitely come to the right place to get support and questions asked :)

Have you looked up clinics near you? I did that first and asked for price lists and found out a lot through that as to who was kind and informative rather than too clinical
I went to a free seminar on donor iui too which clarified a lot of what I'd read up on. A lot of the clinics do free tours/ info sessions which I also did
I went with care clinic at Tunbridge Wells and can't praise them enough, they were
Lovely :)
Do you have any specific questions?

Happy and healthy Christmas and new year everyone- lots of Pregnancies and babies hopefully

X

I had my baseline scan at IVI London today - all good. Lining 2.4mm and ovary "quiet". Next scan and bloods on 9/1 which FET in Spain pencilled in for 15/1.
I asked the lovely nurse/sonographer if a review was likely to have taken place after my failed FET. She said in London this is routine but would check for Spain. Spain confirmed they do this too and I am all set to continue to plan so Cetrotide starts tonight and Progynova tomorrow.

Fantastic kwick! 🤞🏻 I started my nasal spray on the 23rd and have been told I will have a scan on the 9th of February to see if everything has worked and if they will schedule the transfer for the end of February. They let me know today that they have a donor ready to go. So exciting! I hope it works for you 🙏🏻.

Hi all,

I’m new to this, my wife and I are about to start our fertility treatment! We have decided to go with our local fertility clinic and have had all the preliminary consultations and tests we didn’t go for hycosy tho. We have chosen our sperm doner and the samples are now with the clinic!

Our next appointment is at the end of Jan to sign the consent forms and get our treatment plan so I have a few weeks to lose the extra Christmas pounds. I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on things we should to do try and make this as successful as possible?
