I Love Country Music, I Love Bluegrass

I want to confess my love of the Music That Dare Not Speak It's Name..

I was listening this morning to some Randy Travis, and practically weeping with pleasure. The voice, the music, the wordplay, the depth of the storytelling..

does anyone else care to join me in spreading the Gospel and Praisin'?

Where are you Cappuccino?

Zippi, why does your age make you creepy? Don't understand!

DaDaDa · 30/03/2008 23:23

I come at country from a country rock/alt country background, but I love the Southern Soul/country crossover too.

Like the underrated Bettye Swann

I think this might be my favourite country song of all though Jim Reeves - He'll Have To Go

Oh, and apparently we don't need a music topic.

elkiedee · 30/03/2008 23:32

Another one remembered (an emusic discovery for me) - Laura Cantrell

elkiedee · 30/03/2008 23:34

And how could I forget Nanci Griffith?

Another recommendation is Hazel Dickens.

elkiedee · 30/03/2008 23:34

Loretta Lynn

elkiedee · 30/03/2008 23:35

Gail Davies
Trish Murphy

elkiedee · 30/03/2008 23:36

Rhonda Vincent

i was interested to kno what the age gap was t be creepy well theirs is less thasn mine lol

i hope i look younger than steve earle

elkiedee · 30/03/2008 23:45

Lol, he hasn't worn well, has he?

Enjoy your age gap - is he your toy boy?

I once met a couple who were 59 (him) and 24 (her), though I realised his age later. It seems a huge gap but they were clearly right for each other. Sadly he died a few years ago at 68 and had had a stroke 18 months previously, and they were together for 15 years (so from when she was 18!) But often these relationships don't look so creepy in reality as in theory - the one I did find creepy was my cousin and her ex - she was 14 and he was 30 when they started going out. They broke up after 7 years but I'm not sure her taste in men or lifestyle choices have got much better.

zippitippitoes · 30/03/2008 23:50

lol toyboy is a barfmaking expression

elkiedee · 30/03/2008 23:51

I love the song Harper Valley PTA too - I think I came across it via a cover version first, can't remember who by.

And I've liked Bobbie Gentry for years.

eemie · 01/04/2008 00:35

Well I've just got back from hearing Kris and he's still got it! Loved the new songs and loved the way he sang the old songs. They really are better with just voice and guitar - (just missed the violins a little bit on Casey's last ride).

He came on in one song as a backing singer for his support band - a graceful and classy thing to do.

In the last set I had that feeling of the whole audience as one, hanging on his lips - what music is all about, really.

Almost took my mind off dd losing her teddy (see other thread)

onebatmother · 01/04/2008 23:22

eemie - sorry, a bit frantic and not posting a huge amount but..

On the subject of lyrics, is there really a country song called 'when you leave me go out backwards, so I'll think you're coming in'?

suedonim · 01/04/2008 23:43

Eemie, glad you enjoyed KK too. I think I said further down, I've never been to a perfomance before where the main act has actually sung with the support; it was no nice to see. I'm now inflicting Roddy Hart onto all my dc, making them listen to his CD, hehehe!!

suedonim · 01/04/2008 23:44
