I want to confess my love of the Music That Dare Not Speak It's Name..

I was listening this morning to some Randy Travis, and practically weeping with pleasure. The voice, the music, the wordplay, the depth of the storytelling..

does anyone else care to join me in spreading the Gospel and Praisin'?

Where are you Cappuccino?

Agree Dolly's been kinda 'crap' since she went 'Hollywood' and diluted her country roots. But there were many many years prior where her country/bluegrass roots produced some wonderful and pure country music.

moondog · 27/03/2008 11:18

Yeah,I've been meaning to get into Manu Chao.

onebatmother · 27/03/2008 11:20

Love Alison Krauss, earlybird, but haven't heard the Plant/Krauss one.
DP saw Alison Krauss in Kentucky (and the mean fiddler)
Tim McGraw, blimey - are you actually in the states earlybird?

Ah Moondog - some night we'll meet, and I will tell you all about my experience at David Allan Coe's country picnic on his farm deep in the hills of Tennessee....there were lots of 'outlaw' country fans, and an equal measure of bikers. Quite a day/night.

Indith · 27/03/2008 11:21

moondog · 27/03/2008 11:22

DD is at school with John Prine's daughter...though she's older than dd. He actually did a benefit concert for the school a few years ago - back when we were still in London.

moondog · 27/03/2008 11:32

Terrific Iorek

Johnny Cash had a network telly show in America in the '70's. Last time we went to the (aforementioned) Country Music Hall of Fame, they were screening a wonderful clip from the show that had Cash singing a duet with a young Bob Dylan. It was wonderful.

margoandjerry · 27/03/2008 11:35

I love commercial country - am going to see Dolly in July. Cannot wait.

Also love Willie Nelson especially "Mamma, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys" and "Good hearted woman"

And thisone

Indith · 27/03/2008 11:36

I can't find a clips of these but back in the days of cassette tapes I used to make compilations from Bob Harris and Mike Harding etc on Radio 2 and some of the ones I remember as being utter faves were Gretchen Peters "Waiting for Amelia" and Timothy B Shmitt (? maybe) "The Shadow". I love radio replay but god I miss bits tapes.

Earlybird · 27/03/2008 11:39

margoandjerry - where are you going to see Dolly? I've never seen her live, but I bet she's very entertaining.
