I want to confess my love of the Music That Dare Not Speak It's Name..

I was listening this morning to some Randy Travis, and practically weeping with pleasure. The voice, the music, the wordplay, the depth of the storytelling..

does anyone else care to join me in spreading the Gospel and Praisin'?

Where are you Cappuccino?

Hello Lime!
..
bloody hell, Emmylou, I forgot emmylou. Haven't got any of the trio albums, no.. didn't know that linda Rondstadt was connected to either of those. I'll look them up..

slightly different tack.. but talking of childhood..

Gordon Lightfoot? and Big Jim Croce?

Abnd the beautiful James Taylor?

Sweet Baby James is the DC's bedtime song..

I am going to come back and radically increase my music collection.

I shall cite Mumsnet in my defence. Yeah, like that's always worked before

SirDigbyChickenCaesar · 27/03/2008 13:05

oh WIllie nelson!! how could i have forgotten about him!!

my little brother and I went to see him in concert a few years ago. wicked. gotta love willie.

SirDigbyChickenCaesar · 27/03/2008 13:08

great canadian folky country rocky band. love 'em.

Swedes · 27/03/2008 13:15

I've just listened to emmylou with mark knopfler - really marvellous.

Of course Dire Straits were much more country in their early days - some early DS here

shoshe · 27/03/2008 13:34

I have just downloaded the first two albums from this Dou fantastic song by the way.

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 13:57

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 14:06

this album is FAB

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 14:07

go to Dick in Dixie on the Hank 3 link below

hee hee

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 14:08

but not in front of the children it is obscene

Earlybird · 27/03/2008 15:08

Yes, we're starting to hear lots about children (and even grandchildren) of country greats - there's Hank 3, Shooter Jennings (married to the actress who was Adriana in 'The Sopranos') , Rosanne Cash (a lyrical genius who's been around for ages), and Steve Earle's son Justin who has evidently emerged from drug addiction to claim his place as a recording artist.

Lots more too, I'm sure....

zippitippitoes · 27/03/2008 15:12

i do like this which i just poosted on the veggers warning parental advisory and it isnt country but heyho i am elceteic

saltire · 27/03/2008 15:16

I was raised on Johnny Cash, Wiilie Nelson, Tammy Wynette etc. That and my dad affection for pipe band music and the Corries problably goes some way to defining why I have the tastes I do in music.
As a child my mum often listened to this, she had the vinyl

skyatnight · 27/03/2008 16:48

That dress is somthing, Saltire. She looks like a cross between Raquel Welch in 'One Million Years BC', Tarzan's Jane and one of Robin Hood's Merry Men! Great voice.

EllieG · 27/03/2008 16:50

Just read the OP but wanted to 'out' myself - I am a fan to. So there. And I ain't ashamed. Particularly love Alison Krauss and Union Station at moment. And Johhny Cash. And John Denver.

onebatmother · 27/03/2008 17:46

Gosh! We forgot Patsy Cline

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 27/03/2008 17:53

I had Patsy on earlier, when doing my Cd, should've mentioned her.
I do apologise, please forgive me.
